So I got really bored, so I created an analysis. You may or may not agree with me, but for the most part, this is how I feel about these songs. These are just examples that I thought fit the descriptions I made.

tl;dr version: What makes you love a song? Do you like the intro, catchy phrases, mid parts, high notes, ending? What's your favourite part?imstupid.png

Introduction: Usually with a mix of instrumentals and a line that sets the mood and storyline for the rest of the song.

  • Oh My Girl – Closer: It is set with a very light, almost angelic vocal. It definitely created interest.
  • BlackPink – Boombayah: It came with an introductory to the vibe of the song: The line BlackPink in your area, makes you question about who they are, and what they're going to bring.
  • Red Velvet – One Of These Nights: A dramatic, yet meaningful introduction that sets the story.

Catchy Phrases: Normally the iconic part of the song, usually very repetitive and can be hard to get out of your head.. You might find it annoying, but you cannot deny its presence. It can make or break a song.

  • Twice – TT / Cheer Up: "I'm like TT, Just like TT" and "shy shy shy" are both super repetitive, yet endearing.
  • Pristin – Wee Woo: The same formula goes for this.

Middle Part: A song's climax, the high point of the song where everything develops, usually the song picks up its pace or slows down. It can have the rap parts or it can have some breaks or something unexpected towards the bridge adding some tension.

  • NCT U – Without You: The instrumentals slightly changing built up the song in an unexpected way.
  • Dreamcatcher – Chase Me: The chorus is sped up a little bit, giving it some impact.
  • SISTAR – I swear: The song speeds up towards the middle, making it really catchy.

Piercing High Note: A part of the song where a vocal shows their prowess. It has a feeling of effortlessness, followed by a quick change of pace and is sometimes classified as the iconic part of the song.

  • WJSN – Secret: Yeunjung's high note made her stand out compared to the rest of her group.
  • APink – I Don't Know: The high notes towards allowed to finish the song in a different manner.
  • IU – Good Day: The high notes that solidified Korea's love for her as a soloist.

The Ending: The final punch. This is where the song slows down its pace, and some final finishing touches that makes it memorable. Usually very prevalent in more ballad-type songs.

  • EXO – Monster: The sexy vocal dynamics towards the end wraps this song perfectly. It slowly creeps on you.
  • Sejeong – Flower Way: A heart piercing ending allows the listeners to really feel her emotions.
  • 2NE1 – Lonely: The instrumentals along with the "eh eh" ended the song in a nice matter.
  • I.O.I – Very Very Very: The abrupt ending makes people either love it or hate it.

So what are some songs you love? And why do you love them? Share with me juseyo.

This is also probably the longest thread I've ever made. imstupid.png

Songs that maintain the exact same quality from start to finish. Meaning if the start of the song isn't as pleasant to listen to as the middle part, it's going to bother me. The chorus could be a solid 8/10 but if the verses are 10/10, I'm not going to leave the song on repeat for long. The more plays out of a song I have = the more I like it. I do not like interruptions. I loathe beat drops, unless the rest of the song has the same level of quality

Basically I don't care about any particular part, as long as it's smooth all the way through.

This is true, good points. Overall quality is obviously important.

You are right Jieun's high note in Good Day was iconic <3 (even though some people mistook notes for octaves lol).

Overall in her discography I love the beginning and the bridges the most.

If I had to boil it down, the minimum for me to 'like' a song requires it to have good production and a catchy hook because really that's what makes pop music enjoyable in the first place imo

When I say production I'm more interested in the details; how the producer/composer builds tension in the verses, what kind of synth/guitar/keyboard tones they chose, how the percussion elements hit, any manipulation done on the instruments and how everything comes together (e.g is the mixing good, does it sound overproduced, instrument levels sound balanced etc.)

A catchy hook is subjective but I like something with a very distinct and instantly memorable lead melody (refrains aren't really enough for me)

Do you have any examples of this? Something that you like, perhaps?

some kpop examples off the top of my head

Big Bang's Sober; I love the filter on the keys on the opening and the warmth of the guitars that ring really subtly through the verses. It's also got a very traditional structure but it works well in building the verses up to the hook which I think is the best part, the keys come back and the drums hit really hard. The melody is very simple but it's very memorable without needing to use any refrains

Boa's Camo; By all means this is a very standard pop song but it does everything really well, the texture on the low pitched synths contrast nicely with the very sharp, soaring ones that come in on the pre-chorus with the massive snares. Also BoA's sort of nasal, higher voice sits really nicely above the heavier drums and synths,

A more recent one I liked is RV's Red Flavor, I have a thing for pop songs that are driven by drums/percussion, plus the really weird distortion of the vocal sample is used really well in the hook as a way of keeping a sense of rhythm

This is a good and standard list. Thank you for sharing.

i like a part after the second chorus where

in ballad, when the singer done singing the second chorus

then the flow turn slower n hit the high note in the end of the part till the back up singer sing the last chorus

in general kpop,

after the group singing secon chorus

usually they change the flow a lil n hit the high note in the end till other members sing the last chorus

idk what that part is called

Yes, I definitely like that kind of flow in ballads. Do you mean towards the bridge? I agree with you, though.
