i like Jang Hyuk...

it's good, i liked it. It has a different type of plot which makes it more interesting. It's not the usual romance or political drama that most historical dramas do, well at least it's not the focus because some of that stuff is in there. I don't want to spoil what it's actually about but there's some conspiracy stuff and a secret group trying to stop what the King is actually trying to do.

I didn't like Shin Se Kyung in there, i felt that she was flat and i didn't like her character.

I recommend it, but at the same thing i think that Chuno is better.

So what was his character??? Any birth secrets? (A historical drama isn't complete with that)

I am going to build yet kill your expectations.

To build your expectations, I'll tell you that it's easily my favorite drama. To kill your expectations, I'll say the same thing.

The pros

1. It has the best acting out of all the dramas I have ever seen and that is because of Han Suk Kyu and Yoon Je Moon

2. It also easily has the best plot though muddy at times, It has an amazing plot in my opinion in terms of King Se Jong but not so much Jang Hyuk's character. He really isn't the main character to me. Important but not my main focus.

3. It easily has the best characters and if you really understand the implications of the plot and the characters, you will get what I am saying. I especially loved the villain for a reason and I feel like a lot of people did not have the same experience in that regard.

4. The production, direction and filming was superb!

The Cons

It dragged a little in the middle but not a lengthy drag and those parts could easily be fast forwarded.

I sometimes thought it was somewhat out of focus in terms of character but this didn't deter me and honestly, this is because I am picky. Once again, a lot of people don't have that experience.

Shin Se Kyung - She's a terrible actress but very redeeming in this drama. She was actually very tolerable and also due to the fact that Han Suk Kyu and Yoon Se Jung are so good, you easily forget the other casts.

I loved this drama. It has an amazing script and the cast has my favorite actor in it which is Han Suk Kyu. Forget Jang Hyuk because Han Suk Kyu got a grand prize for his role in this.

Now, I have killed the drama for you. You will watch this with high expectations and whether or not they will be met is your thing. If you go into this nit picky, you might not enjoy it. (I swear there was someone I recommended this to who bitched about such insignificant things that did not even do anything to the plot, I mean really?) I have to be vague because I don't want to spoil it but honestly, I could write about three pages on why this drama is so good and that's because I scrutinize films. There were some very small things that made this drama fantastic for me.

ps. Expect flying martial arts which I normally absolutely hate but gosh was I willing to forgive.

pps. Do not expect eye candy.

not really a birth secret but more of a getting separated, changing name and not recognizing each other as adults type of thing. He wants revenge against the king for what happened in past. They start the show by showing the present for a bit and then the past to show how he got to that point.

and yea as the above said Jang Hyuk isn't really the main character. It's more of a cast of characters instead of main ones.

telling you the King's plan and what it's actually about would ruin the plot. Because you don't really know as a viewer until maybe halfway through the show or a little later. Let's just say a LOT of people are against what he's trying to do but it's for the better of the country.

Oh i nearly spooled adakdjlfa;d  delete

Oops, I nearly spoled this but deleted it fast and typed a bunch of random shit so I could save immediately. I totally forgot that the big part of this is not revealed until later on and yes, I just nearly spoiled the hell out of this. Gosh, I hope you didn't read that.

See, I initially thought this too but to talk in vague points, the villain says something that made me think completely differently which is why I say I loved the Villain. At the end is when it hit me that the villain had a point.

ok i agree with you because i agreed with almost everything the "bad group" (i can't remember their name right now) said. But i think koreans today would probably say that it is for the better, idk just my thinking.

Both sides had good reasons for doing what they were doing, which is what made it good.

True but then a part of me wondered, if it would be any different had it happened the other way. I guess it's because I live in N.A where essentially there is a false sense of belief that the American Dream exists and poverty is swept under the rag and tucked away only for the few to peak out and distort mainstream beliefs. Essentially, we deprave the poor then blame them for their depravity.

i can't see that they would stay completely the same if it went the other way. I don't know how much of the story is true but it would probably happen eventually or in part at least.

Hopefully reading all this gets Meli to check it out, since we were supposed to be convincing him/her

I watch a lot of dramas.

I love Sageuks.

I love SJK.

But, I thought the drama was BORING, Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

People like to make it deeper than it was, like it was some intellectual masterpiece

*caveat - I have an unnatural dislike for Jang Hyuk's overacting and Shin Se Kyung's weird lisping acting that could have colored my judgement.

Yeah, I should have mentioned that some people find it boring but it was most definitely an intellectual masterpiece. Then again, did you reach the end?

Try it. Remember, you're not obligated to finish it or like it.

If you really can't stand Jang Hyuk, it's probably not for you. Though in all honesty, if you skip through most of the stuff with him in it, it doesn't really alter the basic premise of the drama, since he's not the center of the plot.

I liked it quite a lot, but I have nothing against any of the cast and I generally love historical dramas, so I am both unbiased where the cast is concerned but biased toward the genre (then again, I won't touch Dr Jin with a 10 ft pole, so I do have my limits).
