I don’t know what your point is honestly but I’m still not throughly convinced that she’s a soprano. No one expects pop singers to sing like classical singers but there are basics that are universal through music as a whole. I did choir starting as a child and my music teachers at a young age made it clear that there are elements of the voice that you can classify regardless of your style/musical background. We can debate this further but we can agree to disagree for now.

His point was that voice typing is the most accurate to do based on classically coordinated head voice, which in Beyonce's case sound soprano like.

just compare winter to karina,  karina was pushing for volume while winter was much more relaxed

She is obviously not as developed as Winter but its already better than Rose/Chuu etc ...

No Stephanie is a soprano who push her tongue to sound darker ...even then she never sounded mezzo

Yes she sounds like a soprano and her support isn't that strong.

Coming back many moons later sorry hehe, I appreciate your other posts with the receipts and I'm very interested to listen through soon and hopefully be convinced:) But just off the bat seeing this as an example of improvement I'm like... I do not hear it, the pushing, distortion and tightness already present from the B4 before she goes up (atleast I think it's a B4) is so distracting, I don't hear it as better than what I would typically hear from her back in the day. Same with the C5(?) at 0:26 and again B4 at 0:43. To me the B4's are kind of similar in quality to this 3:33. I would actually consider the 2014 example slightly better tbh

Here is another 2014 clip, I will say that she sounds better nowadays, fuller and more relaxed, she sound rough on Bb4-C5 in the chorus and bridge here (though the support is still good and definitely there), even the sustained G#4s carry some tension.

3:16 her C#5s are much better now.

2:05 she got a bit stuck on this A4 not like its not happening now but she handle it with stronger support in comparison to then, 3:03 phrased C#5s aren't completely there.

To add on to that I think that her presence and support in the 3rd octave improved as well as, same with the mixing on D5/Eb5.

Tbh these are some the moments I think of when I mentioned her very messy moments in the past lol. Especially that second performance, the C#5 is pretty painful. This was also the era where her voice would crack on basically every other high note she did during their promotional stages, girl was going through it. Following her pretty closely from 2013 to 2017-ish, the condition of her voice has always fluctuated quite a lot in this period, and I will definitely agree that her consistency has improved greatly in recent years. I will also agree about her lower range having improved somewhat, I do hear more presence than in the past

I will say that her recent rough moments are far less problematic than her ones from 2014/2015, her coordination is more consistent and strong (on C#5s especially she isn't almost dropping support anymore), however I agree that even backthen she already had moments that are as good as how she sings today.

C#5's at 3:08 and 3:27 that I find comparable to her current level (if not slightly better even)

I don't hear anything better about it, its perhaps a bit lighter/easier but sounds less grounded to me, anyway I am standing behind my point, Solji's improvement of consistency is there and is backed up with an improvement of support around C5/C#5, Solji borderline straining C#5 back then wasn't just a matter of occasional lack of consistency, the roughness was related to her support and how developed it was around this area, I would personally be surprised if she will sound as throaty on C#5s nowadays bcoz it just isn't happening in recent years (happening much less atleast) in comparison to a handful of ones in the past.

(Please correct me if I am wrong I am still learning)

Is Solar supporting down to G3/G#3 ? 0:03-0:50, 1:44-2:27.

(Same performance in both clips just adding both in case the audio is cleaner in one of them)

Doesnt even Taeyeon or Eunji have better resonance throughout her middle register?

Yes, they have stronger more resonant belts, Wendy is nowhere close to bad though its just that in comparison to Ailee she is weaker.

F3 and F#3s are definitely not supported 'in the first song you posted too ) some G#3s are soft here and there but @1:15 G3- A3-G#3 -A3 was her best lows in that song ....we need to hear more to call it an improvement

Ok thanks !

ZHR said that she supported down to around G#3 here.

0:52-1:50

And here is another one that I posted before but maybe you didn't see it.

0:09-0:49 some quick notes lower than A3 here sound nice, 1:45 a G#3 (?) sound decent.

How is she doing on those clips ?

Didn't Ailee regress apparently in her break?

Perhaps, she still have moments that are good enough and in general she still have support in the 5th octave but I do hear more problems with tension and her belts turning out weaker than she intend them to be.

Here is a recent vocal showcase of a live she did if anyone want to watch...

She is still better than Wendy though, even if she is less good now she is not low Proficent lol.

Her and Jojo are very similar in that regard where their voice become fatigued due to pushing & chestiness, but they still can support at the same range when rested.

Isn’t her problem more so than being chesty and pushy her vowel shaping ?

Anyway I will agree that Ailee didn’t really regress or anything but the issues ppl point out are are there, how she sometimes approach the 5th octave ( those specific stamped notes for example ) can sound relatively off so I get why ppl are talking about it I don’t find talking about it hateful. Also I am pretty sure that most ppl like Ailee ? she is not a disliked singer based on what I saw.

I wanted to ask about two of the frozen female singers hope its ok.

First about Idina how good is she ? she seem to have pretty good consistency up to C5 but above that some notes sound messy but some are nicer.... ppl say she is a mezzo idk if thats true but if she is then it change the picture.

And also about Kristen Bell who is not really a singer but I was curious about, seems like maybe she is average ? idk her voice is light and soft it doesn't sound too strong, a short answer will be enough about her, she is not that interesting to discuss.

1:16 C5, 1:17-1:23 some D5s.

0:55 B4, 1:04 Bb4, 1:08 C#5, 1:41 B4,1:44 G#4, 2:01 C#5, 2:35 Bb4, 2:41 C#5.

0:41 A4, 1:01 C5, 2:55 Eb5, 3:35 D5.

Wheein on Begin Again.

1:37, 2:51 3:20 G5 in head voice, 2:29-2:49, 2:58-3:20 some mixing around A4-B4.

0:51 C#3/D3ish, 1:28 Bb4, 1:50-2:10 2:45-3:05 mixed G4s-A4s, 2:40 A4.

Nothing new overall, she is not doing too well.

girl said i'm definitely not belting out this era LOL ...very underwhelming moments more low to mid AA ( more on the lower side imo )

I guess that its too early to tell bcoz she is REALLY not trying sadly, but yeah just before I posted it I told someone from the thread that if she won't wake up from this indie/unfocused and quit singing phase she would end up in low AA in my opinion.

Has she shown any nice C#5 this yr?

"Nice" ? no, but passable ones ? yes (if I am not wrong), its late now so I don't have time to search for many examples but here are a few: (Hope that those are really C#5s)

3:09 (before the Eb5), 3:26.

2:00, 2:07 (may be too tense) edit: yes its too tense

1:09, she have tenser ones as well here after the kinda ugly D5s maybe some of them are passable idk.

Are those C#5s ? 2:06, 3:17, 3:55.

She was already going really light on C#5 especially sustained ones, like at 2:46. The stronger support and engagement was not there last year.

Sound to me like its still better than her recent C#5s, and the lows and mid notes throughout the verses are done with a bit more fullness.

What do you think about her in late 2019 ?
