Yes it still bothers me till this day lol. At least we know now with (g)i-dle's case. Apink was also from cube before the company split? Eunji is the only decent vocalist but to my knowledge she already had vocal training before being a trainee. So yeah something's definitely wrong with how they train their girl groups lol

Agreed. Hate this technique =/ individuality thingy. Baekhyun, D.O, Chen don't sound the same at all for example and they obviously had the same vocal coaches teaching them the same way

Personally i won't say Mina supports. It's too weak for me. As for the ranking it's pretty accurate. The second one though, everyone below eunbi is pretty arguable and interchangeable.

Wow it's been a long time since I've heard a nice G#4 from him. I guess the long rest pays off. Last year there was barely any good moments above F4 from him. He was frequently overworked and his voice was always always tired lol. But here, his voice sounded very relax. Those G#4s are nicely supported imo. I just hope he stays consistent. Cuz honestly he'd be the best vocalist in the whole NCT if his belts are as consistent as Doyoung's

I'm kinda scared of doyoung tbh... in a good way. His mix gets better and better every time he sings. Is it safe to say now that his supported range is E3 - G#4/A4?

Both ggs and bgs struggle getting decent vocalists. 4th gen in particular. 1st gen and 2nd gen had many good vocals (both ggs and bgs). It went down-hill from 2015/2016 imo. A lot of kpop main/lead vocals now use this 'indie' technique with weird vowels.

Also, for 4th gen, bgs seem to be weaker in terms of vocals. I can't think of many 4th gen boy groups with a member that has a free range.

I'm pretty sure @seulgisbaewas only referring to cube groups and not the whole kpop. Or is it not?

i would give Doyoung E3 - G#4/A4. I've only heard one good Eb3 from him here. Other than that, he usually gets airy below E3. Unless I'm missing or forgetting something

makes sense since dream wasn't supposed to be a fixed unit. they were supposed to leave the unit once they become adults but sm made them fixed after fans kept asking them too. maybe they will have new members with more developed vocal skills? idk

Honestly I'm not sure about where exactly Doyoung is getting his lessons but even if it's in SM, it's definitely by his own choice because no way they would make him take them and not the other vocalists like Taeil or Jaehyun. Like, the vocal coaches are surely good, but if you don't go to them they don't bother after a certain point, I suppose.

I feel like it's the exact same with RBW. Seoho and Goeun being the only two "decent" vocalists in their respective groups, compared to Yonghoon and Mamamoo, yeah, RBW and SM love scouting good ones and the ones that aren't so good get basic training and voilà.

 

doyoung had an interview with a magazine and seems like he's been taking vocal lessons with many vocal coaches. and i guess that's outside of sm. well props to him for taking the initiative cuz seems like everyone else's vocal skills in nct has been stagnant lol

they do have a few ballads that they sing live. timeless and no longer mainly. there's back 2 u and long distance flight but jaehyun only sang in his lower register in those songs.

oh shit lol. i don't really listen to boy groups that much other than the ones i like so idk if all the information are correct. but from their explanation of nct and exo it seems pretty right. would argue that jaehyun has C3 down and at least D4 though and doyoung with G#4-A4.

 

 ah yes at this point the term 'resonance' is different to everyone lol i'll just take that as well supported
