Oh no hani  actually very shallow 0:55 that G#4 is shallow and unsupported and hyerin can be inconsistent she's at best average so it just slightly better than AOA...also the resonance as a word is all over the place... a lot of those notes aren't resonant IMO .

BOTh Redvelvet and MAMAMOO are from the 3rd gen and they by far the strongest vocal lines

agreed i do feel like some of these resonance are not actually resonant. sejeong a4 for example doesn't sound resonant to me.

speaking about aoa was choa the only one who can support properly in the group?

yeah but that doesn't make them the strongest vocal line among the 3rd gen of Girl groups , MAMAMOO have 3 AA and wendy is competent , seulgie is way more consistent than hyerin ....also EXID is disbanded now so does it matter that much

exid didn't disband though. they just released a japanese album like a month ago lol and even filmed an mv

this sounds live so i'm putting here lol. they put all nct's "vocal" line in one unit. i'm surprised jaehyun and jungwoo aren't here. jaehyun especially since he was promoted alongside taeil and doyoung as the "vocals" of nct. but then again i remember he's getting less and less lines each comeback lol. jungwoo is straight up underrated even by sm themselves even though the guy can actually support

Question: Since in this generation there are groups in the industry who's "vocalists" have nearly no understanding of vocal pedagogy, about how long will it take them to get acute vocal damage to the point where they get nodules or have to stop singing? (especially given constant promotions,  world tours, ironically it seems YG artists recieve virtually no proper vocal training yet they seem to rely on live feed vocals much more than sm groups, yikes)

I would say that's because yg and sm's song are written differently. Just compare 2ne1 vs snsd , red velvet vs blackpink, exo vs ikon/winner. Sm songs are more vocally demanding and they generally have harder choreos too. Hence, the need for backup vocals

On a side note, I finally got around yo listening for NCT's new song Make A Wish. I wasn't very fond of it but i was surprised to hear another member that can support lmao. It sounds like Xiaojun has decent support in his midrange, better than Jungwoo at least and definitely more than Haechan.

I know someone already posted a video of him on here but i didn't realise he was also an NCT member lol. So there's 4 NCT members who has proper support and 1 ambiguous case lol.

so is jungwoo the ambigous one? also yessss i always thought xiaojun were the better ones in the whole nct. was it this video that someone posted? i don't remember someone mentioned him here before

also someone made a vocal range vid of him.

you mean NCT as a whole or just WayV ?

Both lol. I think he's the only one who supports properly in WayV. Nct as a whole i've always felt he's around Jaehyun's level (if not better) so that makes him 3rd/4best vocalist in the group lol

How does Ariana Grande compare to Kpop Vocalists, I always she thought in Seohyun/Jessica level but I'm not sure.

pretty much. she supports G#3 - B4 i think but that's around 2018 ish. i haven't followed her much since then idk if her vocals changed.

I'd reckon mid AA to A honestly. Her resonance is more consistent than the others yes, but her mixing is lacking. I wouldn't give her C5... Maybe she's like Minzy level (?) or slightly better.

Ishe's slightly better imo due to having a supported head voice. I think she supports up to Eb5 with head voice

Though Minzy does have a better lower range. She has G3. I think Seunghee is around G#3/A3 ish

i haven't heard that much supported head voice moments from her tbh apart from those two D5s ...it sound like it not an  explored territory yet

0:20 ~

E5 at 2:14 and D5 at 2:22

these are some i found. though i'm not 100% sure cuz her head voice is not that full but i don't hear any tension either. like this Eb5 at 1:17

2:43

Thought this might be interesting. Interesting how Seunghee teaching Hyojung to add air to her part. She said 저는 공기 좀 많이 내렸는데요. (I add a lot of air to sing my part)

Also hyojung here doesnt sound shallow like she usually does

Hello! Xiaojun can support in his midrange pretty well. I'd give him E3 ish till F4/F#4 but his F#4s are usually quite pushed if he tries to belt it out. He is better when he's only lightly phrasing.

Which 4th Gen vocalists can support? There are quite a few now actually, I do suggest that you skim through the last couple pages to learn more. I'll list the ones on top of my head. 12Dal's Nayul is by far the best (consistently supports at least C#5), then comes PinkFantasy's Yeachan (B4/C5), Weekly's Monday (up to B4), Aespa's NingNing can support but we've yet to see exactly how good, Bvndit's Jungwoo, someone from Purple Kiss and probably a few more I'm missing.

For the guys, Cravity's Woobin is quite decent, and Oneus' Seoho. That's who I've heard of so far who can consistently support.

well add xiaojun too to 4th gen since he debuted in 2019 lol

This comeback has not been kind to Taeil lol. But Doyoung seems to be more consistent. If this keeps up then maybe the rankings so far should be reconsidered lol. Not a lot to not on From Home, aside from Taeil and Doyoung, everybody has relatively shallow support. Taeil has way too many head voice/falsetto moments when he can't really support in his upper range. @2.50, the notes around G#4 there aren't bad for Doyoung actually, sounds better than his other attempts in the same song. Other than that, nothing noticeable. The first chorus wasn't lead by Doyoung, I'm not sure who that was. The other choruses were more in harmony and harder for me to really hear individually.

Okay, I like 90's Love, and I like Ten and I'm proud that he's shining as the main vocalist there. BUT, i lowkey wish one of the other main vocals could have filled in instead lol. The song was in a reasonable range for Taeil/Doyoung (aside from the high notes) and well, they couldve been showcased more. Oh well.

Yea i feel like these days Doyoung is slowly improving himself, at least in the G4/G#4 range consistency part whereas Taeil been having a rough time this year. Like Doyoung now has better mixed register than Taeil. At this rate they might be equal though Taeil still has way better lows than Doyoung.

Btw the first chorus was lead by Chenle

I get what you mean lol. They put Haechan and Ten in 90's love with bunch of high notes and yet we have Xiaoju, Jaehyun AND Doyoung singing pretty comfortable in Make A Wish lol

no comeback has beeen kind to the tight king lol apart from NCT U- without you .....honestly we just need the trio of NCT U with the addition of xiaojun and there we have it a strong vocal sub unit of 4 from average to AA vocalists for some and shade no shade it will be already stronger than all the vocal lines that i heard throughout the years apart from the obv ( KRY, Chenbaeksoo )

wait, so you think xiaojun and jaehyun are average~AA vocalists? I always thought they were iust solid average lol

That's why even when she messes up, it's not as obvious as someone like for example, Demi Lovato would.

since you mentioned demi, how do you think her technique is compared to ariana in general? fans pit these two's vocals in youtube a lot lol

Oooh, I forgot about the MAMA lol. @0.20, nasal and quite throaty Bb4s from Taeil there...very Bruno Mars-like lol. 0.23, oh... Okay I see what you're talking about. GO AWFFF DOYOUNG! I got goosebumps lol. A nice, well placed G#4 and the dips into Bb4 weren't bad too. Okay that was probably the one of, if not, the best belt I've heard from Doyoung so far. 0.32, adlib from Taeil, am not digging this throaty sound from him. It sounds like he is trying to growl it out but there's no growl lol. But he sounds less tight, there's no issues with fatigue this time for him...which is good since he barely sang this comeback lol.

@1.22, A4 from Doyoung sounds nice. The run sounded open on those Bb4s and G#4, he is really not playing here huh. @1.30, scratchy B4 from Taeil then the G#4... Tbh I hear like it carries support but what is happening with this placement smh. He sounds like debut-Baekhyun, he needs to stop doing that lol. Please don't let this be yet another bad habit from him. @1.40, I think that run is from Haechan, not bad. He can relaxed till G#4 or so but he needs to work on properly supporting. @2.07, again Doyoung is doing a good job opening up those Bb4s and G#4s. @2.15, G#4 for Taeil has support and the placement is better. He opened up the vowel in the middle and the rest of the note was better, the A4 wasn't bad too. All of it a bit too pushed though. But okay, so at least he's not stuck in that throaty style. @2.38, closed B4 but Taeil opens up those F#4s. Why did he not sing like this throughout the performance? @2.47, Doyoung keeps pulling out that run lmao stop it we're all already dead. Okay no shade, but 8 other members popped out but the singing sounds exactly the same lmao. I'mma just turn away-

Overall, am impressed by Doyoung in this performance! As much as I love Taeil, I've never heard him sing these kinds of notes even on his good days. I'd say all the G#4s were well placed and had strong support, the A4 and Bb4s are really close honestly. Doyoung really improved his placement on this one.

Taeil on the other hand, very questionable choices lol. The support is there around G#4 as usual but the placement was ugly. Istg I've heard this man strain in 5 different ways by now, never heard this throatiness from him. He pulled it off at the end though, the G#4 was pushed but there was support imo. But Doyoung did much cleaner belts for sure.

Okay, a reminder that of course ranking isn't that important, but as a someone who's been keeping up with them for a while now, I guess it's Doyoung>Taeil rn. Doyoung has shown a lot of good G4s~A4s this year. At least Taeil was not very tight in this performance, on the bright side of it lol.

i kinda agree. Doyoung seems to be the strongest as of now. i love taeil but it's hard for me to listen anything from him above F#4 now.  i hope he gets help but i heard nct 127 is gonna have a comeback in february or smtn so erm... prays for taeil lol

Doyoung though... he seems to improving his vocals really fast nowadays but are we complaining? i remember hearing him being airy 50% of the time 😭 i guess he completely ditched that now lol. looking forward for more consistencies

not a difficult range but yes ! live vocals finally !

I hear the usual sm very bright and "nasal" sound in her. she's not bad at all, better than what I've heard. makes me wonder how ning would sound in live now. Winter sounds relaxed and supports her voice (even if it's not that strong, it's still there)

she sounds like a stronger version of lia lol
