The whole cracking argument still makes me laugh cause I'm like "Right but what is pitch? Because Baekhyun can't seem to figure that out." Like back then...it was so messy...

Don't be silly Ahmin.  He's not missing the note, he's feeling (around for) it.  :imstupid:

The latest episode of Mask Singer is promising! There is
Raina, Younha and Daehyun in it!

I'm hoping Daehyun will be alright.  Someone said he didn't seem to be in great condition and missed some high notes in the showcase, which wouldn't have been that far apart from when they record Mask Singer?  Or does anyone know when Mask Singer is recorded vs. when it's aired....

EDIT: it looks like he passed?!?!!  HE FELT HIS WAY INTO THE LISTENERS' KOKORO YAAAAAASSSSSS

Kim JungTae, whoever that is, sounded nice.  Why don't they make it so they sing equal amounts? o.O
When I first listened to T-ara I thought those sustained notes were by Soyeon, later on I learnt that it was Eunjung all along. Do you think there's a reason for that or did they just do it like that to spice up the songs a little?

They weren't even actually Eunjung all along... CCM/STiger (usually) used to have someone else do the high notes for T-ara on their studio recordings (although Eunjung would then have to do it live).  STiger also had Uji/Yuji (who was his trainee for what would be Exid) sing backing vocals on Bubble Pop for Hyuna, LE do some of the rap for Sugar Free....

Oh wait really? I knew about Sugar Free and Bubble Pop but well...I occasionally listen to T-ara so I'm not that familiar with their voices. I liked Lies intro I always wondered who did that, then the japanese version came out and Eunjung lipsynched to it so I thought it was her but guess not? ._.

Well I'm not too familiar with the chronology of who STiger and T-ara's other composers had access to when... and who was actually credited for "backing vocals" on their music.  I think earlier songs were supposed to be members of Davichi/Seeya/TheSeeya, or maybe only one of them.  Abra might know?

Back then for Lies, TTL or TTL 2 studio version it was Haeri doing the high note while recently with Sugarfree and So Crazy it was TheSeeya's Yoojin, she was even credited for the chorus of Sugarfree and LE for the rap. I think she also did the G5 and the other adlibs in So Crazy though...

Huh really, it was just those (that are publicly known, anyway)?  Well, I guess most notes were not a lie, then.  I sort of remember that Eunjung, around when she was leader, was regarded (in a general sense) as one of the better performers, but then between T-ara's grueling schedules and all of her own activities her live abilities kind of deteriorated.  I kind of wondered if maybe she was never one of the better performers and ppl just sort of thought she was because she "did" the high notes, and then when they were paying closer attention she just wasn't that good in the first place, but I guess the first narrative could still be valid.

Semi-related, but I halfway don't approve of using "octaves" to indicate ranges, even.  A range of N octaves is a range of N11+1 semitones, it's not N12.  Having a 3 octave range implies that you have 1.5X the range of someone with a 2 octave range, but that's not correct.

he probably uses the term 'notes' in a different way than 'full note', I mean C#5 is a note, D5 is a note as well, Eb5 etc.. so they're like 12 'notes' in an octave if we go by this sense, but it's better to use 'semitone' and 'full note' to clear any msunderstandings, since the usual meaning of a 'note' is a full note, as in two semitones, I'm singing a note higher means I'm singing a full note higher..  hence an octave contains 6 full notes, 12 semitones, and .. there's the '8 notes' if you just name the letters lol like D E F G A B C D which are 8 letters within one octave ..

Not really.  A note is just a note.  A full note or a semitone denotes an interval, but a note is just a note.

LOL everyone says that.

What do you mean? 3 octaves means 36 semitones anyway, 2 octaves means 24, 24*1.5 equals 36 semitones.

No it doesn't.  You realize the octaves overlap at their last and first notes, don't you?  3 octaves is 34 semitones, 2 is 23.

C, C#, D, D#, E, F, F#, G, G#, A, A#, B = 12 semitones. So it doesn't overlap.

Ah, my bad, I had it the other way around.  So no, referring to C3-C5 as 2 octaves and C3-C6 as 3 octaves for a theoretical range is problematic because a range of N octaves is N12+1 and not N12.  A 2 octave range is 25 notes and a 3 octave range is 37, and it's still not 1.5X.  (And it overlaps.)

That's Mr. Mr's Tey? He sounds like a baritone. 1:13 he lost the projection in his voice around that part. Their harmonies are good, they're doing well...well she is because she is the one holding the harmony. He is not a bad baritone, he is handling the A2 ~ D4 range quite well and his placement is really actually.. I didn't know he had this in him. This isn't a challenging song for a tenor, but for a baritone it's in a much better range...for Dia this is a very boring song to sing though. Really nice harmonies throughout, this made me curious about Mr Mr now.

I've actually wondered if he were a baritone!  ... but no one answered that question.  His falsetto just seemed really developed, like he had a need for it. >.>;;;

I rmb when i read this article, i was quite surprised and i searched for the video, and i don't know if it's only me but i think Tei the solo singer and MrMr's Tey kinda have similar voices :derp: i really thought it was Tey from MrMr but the suggestion videos shows another person and I'm like  :wut:

I think I thought that was why his company decided to give him a solo... considering he sings >50% of Mr.Mr. songs anyway there didn't quite seem to be a point and I thought that came up shortly before his solo was announced. O.o

Speaking of mezzos, I saw Garbage in Brooklyn last week (YAAAAAASSSSSSSSSS) and Shirley Manson-who-is-not-a-contralto has to be a mezzo or my life is a lie.  Some of these songs are so low... and I been listening to Garbage since and like As Heaven Is Wide never leaves the 3rd octave!??!?  Though I wouldn't say she has a full tone around C#3, but hey.

(It's sad how few Garbage songs I like after the first two albums, but it's also kind of hilarious how she sounds in Cherry Lips which might actually enter the 5th octave which is clearly THE WORST IDEA EVER.)

I know she does, but her voice is weird and I can only listen to it in short burst. I already have the basic figured out..I just don't feel like going in depth. That's the hard part. Like I know about Bada, I know her weaknesses, her strengths, her supported range, hell, I even know her rating. It's the going back and pulling up performances, putting just quick little facts about a vocalist in the huge research paper like format..and explaining it in a way that people understand, making sure you verb tenses match up and y'all know I don't speak English. It's just gets stressful and I'm already a stressed person Q~Q. I would like to be able to churn out as many analyses as Matheus, but I simply can't..I really can't.

Well that's 'cause ahmin doesn't worry too much about his english....

I suppose after you have that Exo MR of Christmas Day any tragic level of MR seems not completely out of the realm of possibility....

EDIT: the twitter has an snsd - mr.mr. MRR up now XD

MR removed videos aren't accurate representations of how good/bad someone is at singing.

I don't know how many times I've seen people try to prove one's vocal abilities by using MR removed videos. Phase cancellation and/or stereo bandpass filtering interfere with audio quality and make it absolute garbage.

Don't get me wrong, though. That was a shit performance.

Isn't that kind of the point?

:._.: Yeah, I just said that people try to use it to show someone's true skills. Unless I'm just not understanding you still.

The point is that the joke the twitter is premised on works on both levels: some performances are just that shitty and some MR removes are just that warped, or both.  Therefore it's not completely out of the realm of possibility that it's legit rather than being a joke.  That in itself is part of the joke.

I'm still not getting what you're saying.

... did you even follow why MRR came up in the thread then?

Not sure if you watch X Factor. But anyways....

Are 4th Impact really good vocalists? Many people actually likes hearing the "high notes" they hit and they come from PH. Is there a chance they are like better vocalists than Regine? LOL

4th Impact... does X Factor like numbers in their group names so much....

OH WAIT NEVER MIND. I UNDERSTAND.

lol

I didn't mean to leave you hanging, but I went to NYC for the weekend... I heard some hilarious singing in the subway, I wish I recorded some of it so I could share its glory with you all~

(It was some dude singing Material Girl, but before we saw him one of us thought it was maybe some little old chinese lady singing it... it got kind of weird....)

I live in NY and you actually come across some reeeally good singers once in a while. Most of them are stylistic sort of singers but once a while someone really good pops up. Always nice to hear someone resonate down in the subway without a mic. They are usually middle-aged or older people but with more skill than most famous singers. Kinda sad how some of the best singers you come across are random people who will never get heard on a wide scale.

I remember there was this first-class violinist who, as an experiment, went busking in NYC (in a subway?) to see what would happen.  As can maybe be expected, he didn't make much money. XD

(This guy wasn't busking (or good), though, he was commuting and just singing along with his headphones....)
