What does Mariah have better than Whitney and Whitney better than Mariah? in their primes of course Sorry butting in lol Mariah has speed, Whitney has power. I know that, the point is there's no telling how many attempts it took her to get the notes perfect and up to her standard in the studio. It shows she's definitely capable, but she hardly ever sings these notes live. You guys take consistency into consideration, and her "consistency" is practically non-existent. Watch perfs from the rockfeller concert, awesome performances. Anyway, I've not seen her most recent performances. But the point is she's still good. Just wait until she slays basic pop stars with her new album. Also she still has the pipes, Josias saw her live last December (I think), and he was blown away. I actually love Beautiful(and Almost Home), even though generally Mariah's songs have been on the decline The weird Mix to Head melisma thing in the audio at 1:36 is perfection, I wonder if you are agile enough you can semi mimic it I actually love her releases even post-Emancipation of Mimi. Songs like Inseparable, It's a Wrap (Damn the starting of this song is so good, the floated pianissimo *_*), For the Record, Standing O etc. And me too. love Beautiful and Almost Home (also the Art of Letting Go which was just eargasm). Most of the time she'd use vocals from back then to lip on but there are a few times that she can sound decent. There might be some resonance in her recent lives but you can hear some tension too. Inconsistency is her issue and the reason why i wouldnt consider her "good". her breathing technique deteriorated, as pointed out by BZ and Chimier. All those drinking and breathy vocals habit made her breathing deteriorate. That's why she needs to learn to breathe properly a over again. I highly believe Mariah is aware of her vocal issues so I think she's doing something about it...at least I hope she is. Yeah. I've seen the lipped/not lipped arguments on YT. People LOVE to use the "5 octave vocal range" lie to make it seem like they're the best, when really, range barely matters. I've seen people say Yma Sumac has a 5 octave range when it's 4 octaves. I've also seen people claim Whitney Houston had 5 when it's 3. Basically. Whitney in her prime killed everyone with just a range of 3 octaves. Her voice is very unique so it confuses people thinking that her technique is poor while it is actually above average. Unique voice=unique technique. So you guys can not really notice between crappy technique and unique technique. If you guys listen carefully, you will hear through her unique technique and her how it is very skillful. K. If you're talking about the "Oooh" falsettos in the chorus, they're G5s (but you can't be resonant in falsetto). If you don't want either of those notes, then just post the video and the time of the note.
