Official Vocals thread (READ OP FIRST)

Alright Ahmin is ignoring me it seems so anyone qualified can review this juseyo~~?

Just from my memory, it was good, the start was pretty stable, but towards the end she did two bad E5s and a couple of flop vocal runs. But also one good E5 (the very last one) which was a rarity for her at the time.

Let me share to yall Hyorin's vocal slayage at Starship X label concert.

2:51 and onwards. Solid vocal line + powerful F5 at 2:55 (the fullest F5 ever belted for this song).

2:17 Effortless heady F#5 vocalized in soft mode. Many vocalists tend to belt louder as they go higher, but not a lot of them can go soft in volume in a very high note. That's a feat and has to do with vocal dynamics and great breath control.

3:03 One of her most powerful E5 belts (despite the slight raspy quality at the end)

2:52 and onwards. Powerful vocal line + resonant F5 at 2:54(one of her best F5 by far). DONE IN ONE BREATH. A RARITY FOR HER. This speaks volume on her breath control.

2:50 G#5 and F#5 in head voice.

Of course, aside from these, her voice was pretty much resonant and well-supported throughout the whole concert in notes below E5. I feel like this is the best she has ever done vocally, on stage. Her breath support is strengthening. So is her breath control, considering for instance, her ability to vocalize notes (as high as F#5) in a different volume mode, other than the regular forte/fortissimo. Her supported range is expanding. By now, I think it's definite that F5 is part of her supported range. She is maximizing her vocal resonance, especially in her upper belts. Her column of sound is getting more even in her supported range and so, she is improving in the evenness of scale of her instrument.

I love how Hyorin keeps getting better and better. Now all she needs to work on most importantly, is her vocal cords connection in her upper register so she can achieve head voice more often, despite her nodules, and explore her lower register more. Can't wait to know what newly improved skills she's going to show to us in the near future~

FUCK. Why did I not top the page?

Late but yass, I can't wait for her to be in that singing show. We should edit her analysis by now btw, it's a bit outdated and lacking some details.

Does anyone know where I can find Yeonji's cover of the song at 4:05 (the A5 example)?

I've tried every possible combination of search terms, including use of my rudimentary Korean.

I know the song is called ì—°ê°€, and I think the original artist is M to M?

Speaking of M to M, I was pleasantly surprised listening to some of their songs. Does anyone know anything about them, generally and vocally? There's not much information on them.

Their version of the song I'm looking for:

I think that's the song

Question. Is Seohyun really that inconsistent with her C#5s?

Like her C#5s in twinkle may not be consistently supported but theyre not bad either. She can maintain a stable larynx to C#5 right?

They just tend to be really nasal and maybe not 100% supported.

Support is what matters, a lot of sopranos can mantain a stable larynx till B4, tenors till like G4, which doesn't mean they're good at those notes. Ariana, for example, with a very very light voice might sing till like Eb5 with no apparent effort, which doesn't mean the notes are any good.

is Irrelevantuser2.9 taegang? :)

Yes someone please help us.

brazil? check

GG sticker? Check

Baekhyun sticker? Check

Taeyeon sticker? Not present.

it could be actually.

hmmm, maybe irrelevant user is right.

To me the one in mr mr was squeezed, all I heard was reverb. This is definitely Tiffany and definitely better than Mr Mr, dunno if id say it's really resonant though, it could be rounder IMO but it's definitely supported and much nicer than Id expect and I didn't know u changed ur username peter LOL

omg smh yes it's me, flops lol

Drew said she has a good C5 here which means opened or resonant (both produce overtones but resonance takes this further). Im just questioning the note because I cant find the belted C5 and the closest one thats not a B4 is C#5.

Girl, calm down. I don't think zhx was sure about the pitch

Uh Blessica asked about the C5 like three times and Drew wasn't going to answer any soon so I told the kid to calm down cuz Drew probably wasn't sure anyway .__. *drama queen gif*

what do you guys think of this performance? idk if this is live but i thought i saw someone said in this thread that Baekhyun has been improving, does he show his improvement here? thanks in advance ~

That's a veeery simple performance but sure he did well. His musical performances are much better examples of his improvement

Can you guys give me an example of a resonant mixed note of an "ooo" sound and an "eeeee" sound?

I can't watch it now to give you the time but towards the end when she sings "find your strength *in* love that was great at. But since using Whitney as an example is unfair,

I remember at one point in this clip this girl resonated an E5 in a closed vowel

Yeah I figured that but I think vocal range and passagio are closely related and my passagio tells me that I'm a baritone. I switched into falsetto around F4/G4 I think.

And yes, Ahmin did, several times actually. Are you interested to hear my strained screech as well? Lol

I know the theory but I can't really be sure where my lower passagio really is lol

I'd like to know what ur voice sounds like too, if u don't mind ofc. I'm curious lol

oh LOL here!

@ 0:40

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Q2AeA_fUHw

people should also start paying attention to tiffany's C5 @ 0:15, and taeyeon and seohyun's Eb5's @ 1:03 and 1:19 respectively. tiffany's C5 sounded better than usual here, and although taeyeon and seohyun's Eb5's werent that great in this performance, in other performances they sounded fuller and more balanced (here they put a lot of head voice into it) and im worried that we might overlook a good note!

U can always pm Ahmin with as much questions as u want so the thread isn't spammed with every Tts perf

okay i feel like younha is almost as good as ailee after watching this LOL

edit: (sorry for spamming younha vids but i feel like she deserves more attention for her vocals lol... okay ill stop now)

oh I think by now everyone agrees Younha and Ailee are on the same level.

I think 1:28 in this video was forced tho. 3:01 had issues too... 3:13... and the lines after weren't very good too Lol This performance had a lot of good moments but it wasn't perfect tbh

But oh well, I personally love this one
