Official Vocals thread (READ OP FIRST)

I know that in Big Bang's predebut days, Taeyang was meant to be a rapper but then became a vocalist when Big Bang was being formed. All of them worked on their vocals and definitely had a vocal coach, but from what I know of YG and Big Bang they probably got rid of the guy when Big Bang got popular (aka Lies era in 2007) and then they stopped trying to improve cause they were already "great" or whatever. Not so sure about 2ne1 (bromide could probably tell you more) but Bom was a trainee for a looooooooong time. 

2NE1 had vocal training for Minzy, CL and Bom I think, Dara didn't do as intense training because she has already been a success in the Phillipenes. They where all going to debut as solos but somehow became a group after recording a song. I guess the only good vocalists to come out of YG are Gummy and Lee Hi

Fortunately for Lee Hi she is attending a performing arts high school now, so whatever the situation is with vocal training at YG will probably not affect her for a while.

What I find funny is that people say SME is only looks no talent and YGE is only talents. In reality? SME has some of the best vocalists in idol industry whereas YGE has some of the worst. Big Mama don't count as they were no longer under YGE when they disbanded. And Gummy's the only exception to this because she's good.

I've been saying this for years. Half of the Top 10 makes and females are SM people.

Lee hi isn't good but she's not bad. Girl is like Jessica/Seohyun's level but she's 17, she will definitely improve with the years.

no dont listen to her bom is a great vocalist but ever since the fire nation attacked she just hasnt been able to sing as well

Can you guys rank sm artists against each other ( Sorry because there are too many people ) or maybe just snsd , super junior, shinee, dbsk , f(x )( still too many > < )

Vocal lines: SuJu KRY > CSJH The Grace > SHINee > SNSD/DBSK > f(x) only bcuz Krystal brings fx down lol and there are only 2 members who classify as vocalists lol

Overall: it's a mess. LOL I mean like ugh so many bad vocalists overall so like as a whole they can only be brought down by the lessor vocalists..

Oh, I see, I see~ It seems like there are a lot of things to consider when judging someone's ability. So what I understand is that resonance is not everything, especially if it's very fluky. Is this right? Would it be just better to be consistently 'okay'/'decent' than to be 'very good' a couple of times?

Well I wonder if this very good person is then pretty average most other times? Most people are already on decent or capable level already n then have some good times.. It's just like Eunji and Luna capable most of the time but never very good, whereas Hyorin and Taeyeon have more good moments but also more not that good moments. Hence they end up evening each other out..

He's good LOL I don't hear many problems, no intonation issues, phrasing and everything was good. I didn't particularly enjoy the style much, but he was good, resonant notes even up to C5 and I think...he mixed all the way up to a resonant G5 (completely unnecessary for a guy but hey) he's good~

Is this a direct question on what note I have resonated or an explanation on what a resonant note is?

 

I'll answer both ways LOL A note that you resonate is a note where you find the correct breath support, the correct muscle memory, the correct stretch of the vocal cords with enough strength to hold the note and the correct placement in your voice, mouth and whatnot, so that your sound is projected, not tense, open, there's no nasality and no raspiness (unless it's a natural aspect of your voice). ... Now if you're asking what note I can resonate, I'm resonant up until E4/F4 consistently, and I have resonated up until G4.

Jessica hasn't had any decent moments, heck her OK moments are even that OK.

 

Also, your post shows that you have no real knoweldge of vocal pedagogy or how the voice works. Please, refrain from answering questions that you obviously don't have the ability to answer. AhMin's answer was already enough and it explained everything perfectly, you are just being confusing as fuck.

 

I know Jessica is your bias, she's my bias too, but just fucking stop talking about. Jessica hasn't done anything worth talking about. Why should we constantly obsess over a girls vocals that haven't improved since 2008? When Jessica sings a note which is resonant then talk about her all you like, but giving Sica as an example in your post is utterly flawed (and frankly annoying). Jessica is mediocre and will probably stay mediocre forever, there's no point about wishing for her to improve or whatever the fuck. Just shut the fuck up about Jessica and stop trying to answer questions that you obviously don't have the ability to answer properly.

 

(BTW If you were going to bring up a vocalist who is consistently decent you should have talked about Eunji!)

I've come here to learn. So if I'm wrong, that's good, its means I can work more. But thank you for correcting me. So It should be fine if I've learnt a few little things. I has handing out an opinion, my perspective. That's mean. I wad bringing Jessica down, I wasn't obsessing over her. I was telling the person. The person was asking a question again, and I wanted to put my piece of mind, I was showing something to actually take into heart. Thats why i told the person that she will always be mediocre because so and so.But thank, you please help me be more correct in the future. I've stopped obsessing about her vocals, and have admitted into the general consensus that will will always be mediocre, I was using her as an example. I should be allowed to do this. Please refrain from using that language from someone who is trying to learn here. I was trying to give a correct answer, I was just giving my idea. If its wrong that's fine, but that attitude towards someone is off putting, but I will definitely take your advice because I want to learn.

....It was there....though my E4's there were kinda yiffy since I wasn't 100% warmed up. I really gotta warm up like an hour before I sing, not like 20 min ..LOL I finish my warm up 20 min before singing... oh well~~ but uh yeah it was there...

Bom's voice is not ruined and she is improving now (for this comeback) she is been taking singing lessons again. I like Bom's tone more than CL.

Taeyeon has a powerful voice and her tone is better than Jessica, but my Sica can even hit higher notes than Taeyeon.

Depends...I use my scale exercises, different exercises, lately been focusing a lot on chest and head voice separately....
