but... exclamations. LOL and honey... Taeyeon's F#5's are all better than the 2 ones from Listen and from whatever the Immortal Song song she sang was.. lol but the one in HYAMLC is definitely better than Taeyeon's..

OH yeah that one was actually not that bad, I like that one.

bom wishes she could pull that F#5 like that .

So you guys were pointing out about being a goof vocalist without having to belt high notes. I would like to expire and learn more about this. Could you guys show me a video or give a me a good vocalist who doesn't belt frequently.

Alright so I've seen the term resonance thrown around a lot when referencing a good vocalist, but I'm just wondering, how important is it really? I mean, which is better, to achieve resonance a handful of times or to be consistently healthy/supported when singing most of the time? Is it a huge factor is determining how good a vocalist someone is technically?

It's one important factor, resonance is the ideal sound one should look for when trying to sing. A resonant note, resonance, resonant phrases, all of that means you're singing in a healthy way and you're supported, but above that, you're also projecting, using good placement and producing the best sound one can produce. A resonant sound means there's no tension, it's free, it's projected, it's well placed, it's well supported and it sounds good, with good tonality. Other factors to consider however are intonation and stability, as well as consistency. One may resonate but not after, or how stable ones pitch is. I mean great you're resonant, but if your note is flat then it's not really that effective. Sure you're resonant, but you can't really sing a line in key or you can't hold a line for long, meh, idek how you resonated in the first place. lol Or consistency, how often you're healthy and resonant, I mean hey Demi Lovato resonated A5, she's amazing therefore? Not really, cuz on the same performance she tended up on a C#5, that's inconsistent, not to mention the A5 was off key as far as I've been told LOL

okay so I have a question really quick.

Aside from the intonation issues, Sooyoung's voice is rather shaky is that just style or is a lack of good support?

She lacks the proper breath support for her voice to be stable, that's why she sounds shaky. This is also the reason why Sooyoung sings underpitch a lot.

thanks. I heard her singing and thought she sounded a lot better than before but I was kinda thrown off by how shaky her voice was.

"Belting" isn't required at all times, and depend on song. The thing about resonance is not alway you need to do that through a song. "Belting" and "resonance" are loud projection technique. There are many vocalist do not required to do that and depend on song. Do you think you need to have loud projection on soft, sweet ballad?

Oh, I see, I see~ It seems like there are a lot of things to consider when judging someone's ability. So what I understand is that resonance is not everything, especially if it's very fluky. Is this right? Would it be just better to be consistently 'okay'/'decent' than to be 'very good' a couple of times?

a lot of okay/decent people are consistent in that are but also they have some good moments. Consistency is key tho. What's better than being consistent is trying to do better, reach a higher level and then strive to be consistent at it. Eg Taeyeon is working hard to be a resonance whore and more but she is decent. But its perfectly fine staying okay and decent because it shows more that you're serious of being a serious vocalist, whereas if you were mediocre its bad because being consistently mediocre means you're not showing the will to improve. This is worse than showing that you're more than just mediocre but just staying there and not striving to be consistent to that higher ability. For example, Jessica (sorry guys, just using my bias as an example, I won't go further into this). She's had a few decent moments and has shown she could be okay more than a few times for many years, but for many years we've been waiting for her to step into the okay moment, but she's not which shows she will or lack thereof to be a serious vocalist.

Jessica hasn't had any decent moments, heck her OK moments are even that OK.

Also, your post shows that you have no real knoweldge of vocal pedagogy or how the voice works. Please, refrain from answering questions that you obviously don't have the ability to answer. AhMin's answer was already enough and it explained everything perfectly, you are just being confusing as fuck.

I know Jessica is your bias, she's my bias too, but just fucking stop talking about. Jessica hasn't done anything worth talking about. Why should we constantly obsess over a girls vocals that haven't improved since 2008? When Jessica sings a note which is resonant then talk about her all you like, but giving Sica as an example in your post is utterly flawed (and frankly annoying). Jessica is mediocre and will probably stay mediocre forever, there's no point about wishing for her to improve or whatever the fuck. Just shut the fuck up about Jessica and stop trying to answer questions that you obviously don't have the ability to answer properly.

(BTW If you were going to bring up a vocalist who is consistently decent you should have talked about Eunji!)
