Really? Lol I thought the sound came out good D: Yeah, the redhead is their main vocal, it's kinda odd because she sounds so different when they performed on Immortal Song lol When someone's connected does that mean they are close to supporting? I mean, weak vocalists don't connect well, right? Oh, I thought their tone sounded alike, kinda like Krystal and Jessica

To me they weren't as similar as the Jung sisters. Also not necessarily but I'm not sure, Id have to hear examples to be sure bout connection vs support.

I did. He said she's like Adele, who injured her voice. I told him that Adele had poor breath support (damn if I don't love 21 with all my heart but homegirl sounds like she just hopped off the treadmill while standing there whispering to the mic), couldn't relax her larynx to save her life, and was trying things she did not have the ability to carry out, which showed after a few of years in her career, while Beyoncé has been singing continuously for two decades and no damage to her voice has happened yet.

Reddit is a cesspool.

How can a girl be a tenor though ?

They said "ex professional choir director". Pretty sure they got fired.

They went on to recommend the infamous Reid method and said it would only take a couple of lessons to teach a complete novice how to sing properly in-pitch so like...

A girl can't be a tenor which is exactly my point. This person might not be worth it but still link me lol

What I mean is that it is a pretty damning mistake to make for anyone pretending to have a minimal knowledge of vocal music. How did the choir director manage to keep 1% of credibility after that.

Clean up your PM box. I can't expose my Reddit messiness here. imstupid.png

Tell them to explain exactly what Beyoncé does that's u healthy and how Ariana's shouty high larynx technique is a proper use of her vocal cords. He's got a point about breath, you don't need more breath, you need just enough air against the right stretch of the vocal cords.

Yeah but he doesn't seem to realise that that's the point of breathing correctly/"breath management": producing a stable airflow that you can control to meet the requirements for the phrase/note. Beyonce has some peculiar vocal habits, maybe that's why he thinks she's bad, since he doesn't know about the other aspects of singing healthily.

I really want to know what he thinks Ariana is doing right and Beyoncé wrong.

"Ignore anything that anyone tells you about your diaphragm, or breathing. It doesn't matter. Babies know how to breathe, singing isn't about your breath, it's about your vocal chords. I don't know what your musical background is, but if you like classical music, look up "All of Bach", and listen to a cantata or a few - the singing in there is truly fantastic.

Otherwise: try not to sing that low, breathy female singing (I hate to say it, but pretty well everything Beyonce does is vocally unhealthy). Sing a variety of different styles, and try to not let your voice be "breathier" than it has to be. It's really hard to explain otherwise via text... A pop example of someone with good vocal function is Ariana Grande - her vocal chords have to occlude fully in order to produce those super high notes, and she seems to be managing the lower stuff well."

>_> how is this guy with a presumably classical background gonna bring up singing in a cantata and think that Ariana's voice is better than Beyoncé? And how does anyone from a classical background ignore breathing coordination? <_>

Even if we ignored every other part of the voice that Beyonce is better at, almost every single head voice note from Beyoncé in this video has a bit more use of depth/pharyngeal space and core/clarity than your usual singer (which is why people describe some female pop singers to have "operatic" head voices, because relatively speaking their head voices ARE done with technique that is slightly moving towards that sort of coordination), so it's weird that someone who listens to classical music would think Ariana's thinass whistle tones are better lol

that's why classical technique has suffered, because the authority figures in the institutions who control things, like this person apparently, can't hear much

Really this^^ Breath co-ordination and effective classical singing are best friends...

But seriously..you can't even sing without taking a breath..like where were they going with this??.. They said they were a choir director..does their chorus just not breathe???

Yass #Slayonce coming thru with the head voice ahmagahplz.png . Throwback to this iconic A5 that gets neglected after her B5 at 2:50

Oh, since you brought up Tom Jones a bit before, how do you think of him in his current age / vocal health?

I'm trying to understand this too like... you literally can't make sound without air passing through your folds and if air is coming out clearly air is gonna be going in for it to come out idontthinksobetchplz.png

I wonder how good Demi Lovato is...

I do think she's a tad bit overrated (no offense laugh.png ) but she's not bad, right? The Bb4s sound nice, is she resonating? The C5s are...well, it sounds pushed. She doesn't seem to support above that and she mixes high very often. Some of the C5s sound okay but some sounds pushed, a bit overly so.

She consistently supports up to B4/C5/C#5 and is beginning to sound decently supported up to D5 and during her most recent performances of "Body Say," she's supported the Eb5's.  Her voice is easily fatigued when she breaches her limits such as late 2014 and early 2015, but she's come SO FAR in terms of understanding her voice (even though she still lowers her larynx to achieve a more "Diva" and bigger sound as opposed to letting her natural, lyrical voice shine through): during her vocal decline era from late 2013 to early 2015, her voice was literally in shambles with her voice straining and cracking on almost every note above Bb4.  Although she's got a long way to go, she's begun to utilize her head voice more and has begun using her natural tone and her natural vibrato is returning (as opposed to her rolling hills vibrato which she forces) so she's definitely become one of the better mainstream pop vocalists.

I agree with you, though.  Her management team really pushed the, "She's a real vocalist and can sing, watch!" trope down our throats with every chance they got starting in late 2015.  However, that really pushed her musically and made sure she was in top condition for every vocal performance and she finally got nominated for a Grammy (her dream), so she's doing some things right.

shes definitely trying to make a bigger sound, but her "lighter voice" was when she was a teen 10 years ago, before her eating disorder messed her voice and also she got her tonsils removed, even then id still say this is her best year vocally

her head voice is getting so much stronger, and she attempted c6 in head voice after like 5 years! @2:50

more recent:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLBisaYYARs

natural vibrato throughout and natural larynx at a5 belts! im so shook im ready for her new album
