guys what do you think of Christina's vocals this year? She seems somewhat improved ever since MasterClass. I think she knows how to use correct techniques, she just prefers not to???? I mean, I've never heard a clean, strain-free note (above A5) from her for a LONG time. And that Eb5 (1:02) sounds great!

Due to a few reasons, we have now changed the "Competent" rating and renamed it "Proficient." The only change is the name.

Mhmm I can understand why you'd think they're low-voiced females. Jisoo just has very underdeveloped technique but neither of them have very low voices nor ranges. They don't sing that low very well either. When they sing low they lack tone and become airy fairly quickly but because they are most comfortable in a narrow mid-range, it may give off the impression that their voices are low. Jisoo sounds most likely like a Soprano and honestly so does Jennie. They're not contraltos and also not mezzo-sopranos, at least I don't believe so. Jisoo may or may not be a mezzo actually, but I'd bet my money on Soprano for now.

Jungyeon is also a soprano, she actually sings very high. Don't confuse thick with low. They have chestier approaches to singing so they use more chest voice in their mixes, but that doesn't make their voices low. If you want a real mezzo-soprano listen to Boa from SPICA, Sojin from Girl's Day, Hani from EXID or such vocalists. They have voices that are placed noticeably lower than most sopranos in K-pop. Their voices shine in a lower range, meaning their mixes start sounding like belting lower than a soprano would belt. Jisoo, Jungyeon and Jennie generally sound actually quite "bored" in the same range that Hani, Sojin and Boa would start to mix.

If Jisoo is a Soprano, could she be classified as Full Lyric Soprano? Her voice sounds more "fuller" and mature than most light lyric sopranos

I'm so looking forward to the Lee Sun Hee analysis here

I'm not an expert nor am I fond of her vocal skills so unfortunately I can't really give like a full analysis lol.

I just know a few basic things about vocal pedagogy since I'm still learning :)

I hear too much chestiness, too low of a sound placement in the throat and chest, lots of pushing. It sounds very Demi Lovato-esque to me.

But I thought Demi has like pushed resonance especially in her C5s... lol correct me if I'm wrong  :derp:

Sometimes she strains B4's.

Well i watched her vocal range from her latest tour  and her voice sounds more well rested than it has been. She seems to be supporting consistently on her C5s. Even some of her C#5s sound supported too. And yeah i do hear pushed resonance on some of her C5s but again I might be wrong lol

guys i need help. what is the note Yunhyeong was hitting at 3:32 - 3:39 (the sustained high note/adlib)

and is it just me, or it sounds supported.

Like if it does I feel like he's actually the best vocalist out of them. At least in the belting area. Like he's not as nasal as Jinhwan or as throaty as Junhoe lol.

and he's underrated too

I'm honestly just walking down memory lane right now and of course, what better place to remember than DISNEY!

But then I found this:

I don't know if any of you old people here have seen Camp Rock (aka, Demi Lovato's vocal slayage) but can we just appreciate how good she sounded here?

I mean, those Bb4s in the chorus were so open, probably resonant. And her C5s and C#5s in the last chorus! QRLGYBO.png QRLGYBO.png QRLGYBO.png

back then when she had consistent resonant C#5s 0u0plz.png

Not K-pop but can i just say, the amount of A5 belts and SUSTAINED here is freaking me out here lol. Yes it's strain as hell lmao but her vocal chords are so "strong" lol. And i applaud her because she actually has good projection up there and her mixing is not bad either.

A5 -> 10:55 to 11:26

i wouldn't call that a not bad mixing . i mean her mix never was balanced in first place even around B4 - C#5 it heavy asf and chesty i wouldn't call a heavy pushed chesty mix a not bad mixing

this is what i consider a not bad mixing

A5 ==> 2:54

F#5 ==> 3:58

A5 ==> 5:33

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FAM1T1Xc1U

G5 ==> 3:06

Well it's Lara Fabian. A Legend. No need to remind that lol.

Well I give props for Demi. She was a lot more chesty before. Her mid belts are more balanced now
