Ailee slays a lot of Alicia Keys songs. I love Alicia more than her but I can't even hate on that. There are times I feel like Alicia's voice shouldn't be as high as it is. When she talks her voice is so low.

PS. Crushing on Emeli Sande like no man's business.

Above A4 he is not that fantastic but its fine because his voice naturally is not comfortable up there.

Kyuhyun,Kim Bum Soo, have their technical issues themselves. Like Bum Soo has some nasality at the top and on occasion strains. And As a musician Kyuhyun is very...dull lol. Good Skill...But I don't think his brain understands the melody of the song on the same level as Hyoshin.

When you compare 3 good vocalist though finding out which one is "Better" becomes that much harder.

Which leaves Naul as the top.

Alicia Keys used to be much better than what she is now, now she's mediocre. None of her performances of "Girl On Fire" are done in the correct key.

Emeli Sande is extremely overrated vocally.

No one really overrates her vocals... I've never really heard anyone say she's vocally exceptional. She's pretty standard. Her selling point is her tone. Not to mention, she rarely tries things. I rarely hear her belt like crazy or try runs and trills all over the place. Mind you I've listened to her lives and her whole album and she rarely overdoes it other than the occasional belt. The thing though is she's promoting Next To Me all over the place.

In regards to Alicia, She's definitely had some issues performing Girl on Fire but I thought she was on key sans a few performances  the problem to me is her voice clearly can't handle it. Though in her defense she has performed it a ridiculous amount of times. She even joked that when she wrote it, she didn't think she would be performing it that much and she might have thought about it a little more. Though I think the song is way above her vocal abilities but she made it sound like she intentionally made it high...

I've heard so much praise about her vocals on the TV. She's constantly being praised as being an exceptional vocalist on music shows etc. Maybe it's because she's homegrown lol.

It's just too high for her, those notes are not in her comfort zone (any more) and she should just stay away from them.

Oh wow, I've not really heard it at all. I mean she's not a terrible vocalist and I think her strength is she kind of knows her range. Even when she covers songs, she rarely does much or attempts things. Plus she likes one of my favorite musicians who is Nina Simone.

Good ol' Nina who is one of my fave artists.

When she won a British Gospel Award someone cited her as the next vocalist of her generation, it made me spill my tea. However, I'm glad she knows her limits, but she really needs to work on her intonation her (60+) performances at the closing ceremony of the Olympics were completely out-of-tune.

That's what I call smoking some strong herb.

I only understand resonance in Opera. Is it the same thing in pop music?

I won't even participate cause I don't know any of those people. I've been meaning to ask where people like Curtis Mayfield and Maxwell fall under. They aren't strong vocalists but heavens Maxwell's falsetto is something else.

Plus how is resonance in pop similar to that in Opera because I know in Opera you have to be resonant which Andrea Bocelli super sucks at. Heavens, I regret the day I noticed. Why's he so terrible? Is it that hard?

This was just... I can't even... Strange though is he projects rather well live.

the Bocelli shade whyyyyyyyyyy

lol jk I understand....love him loads tho.

And I question the same thing about resonance in pop music. In Opera I understand the rigidity, but in pop music? Errthang gets blurred.

I will stop with the shade but it's like discovering the god you worship is just a mere mortal. Kind of like finding out your crush is a total douche bag and instantly being put off.

All the names you mention are pretty good singer, it doesn't matter they are "good vocalist" or not . Andrea Bocelli is a good live singer.

I admit he did sound good live though that was the time I was totally in love with him but I recall he projected really well, I am not sure I would feel the same way if I attended his concert again.

A singer wanna be loved by their voices, what else can you for. :twitch:

The problem is that he does Opera which he is terrible at. Though with a mix of pop/ classical pop here and there. The worst thing was stumbling on a side by side comparison between him and Pavarotti...

I won't compare him and Pavarotti, for one important thing. Does Pavarotti really do pop as often as Andrea? I don't follow these two guys as much. Andrea is a mix, while Pavarotti is a pure opera in my view. Pavarotti is a legendary opera sing in our time. While Andrea has his niche in his singing career that no one really cross, especially someone with an opera singing as a base.

Bocelli didn't start out as a pop artist. In fact, he did not even perform pop songs to begin with and even his pop songs have a touch of Opera kind of like Pavarotti.  Though Pavarotti is technical perfection even though he's past his prime. In fact, a really good way to hear the difference is listen to Bocelli performing with pop artists verses Pavarotti performing with pop artists.

On the other hand, don't get me wrong. I do love Bocelli. I've attended two of his concerts (paid a fortune for bootleg seats). I'm just becoming more aware of his flaws.

2.CSJH

3.Davichi

4.BEG

5.SNSD

6.WG

7.f(x)

8.Sistar

9.A Pink (Eunji)

10.Spica(?)

I'm not sure about the 10. F(x) and sistar could change too '-'

Big Mama>>>>>>>>>>

Side eying for WG and F(x)

In my opinion Spica would be above them simply for having better vocalists in general.

Eye 2 Eye is also somewhere in there.

Well agreed for the fact Akisame mentioned BES and 4Men, so Big Mama should be included in that sense. WG has better vocalists than Spica tho.... Yeeun and Sunye are above any vocalist in Spica... they bring the average up.. fx on the other hand only has Luna..  as for Eye 2 Eye.....not enough material I guess...

I guess I can't really argue with that since I don't follow WG and I've never heard anything mind blowing from them. Here's Eye 2 Eye with Boyz 2 Men. Though in my opinion. It was kind of iffy. Them at their worst really...

I don't like their voices... lol but the singing seems competent ...but still nothing great either, since it was a duet, they were outshined by Boyz II men, WHICH BTW. HOW DID THEY GET TO SING WITH THEM. LOL

I think try this. Yes, there's the one chik who isn't my style but the chik with the husky soulful thing going on is totally my thing. Sweet voices in general are not my thing. Ignore the bad lip syncing.

I don't like their songs/singing really much, but they're quite capable vocalists, I think..

To be honest, they are quite forgettable  I first heard them over a year ago I think and I was hooked for a little then here I am, a year later, remembering them. They really don't have an IT factor. I've always thought that was ridiculous but I kind of get it now. Even now I'm listening to their stuff and the moment I get distracted I start forgetting them a little.

The problem with that ranking list is that it seems to favor one vocalist while the rest of the group is beyond mediocre. Hence why for me, I would put Spica above some groups. Yes, does Boa strain, yup. But the rapper in Spica sings better than even some of the non rappers in the other vocal groups...

PS. I actually don't think Boa is the best in terms of vocals in Spica.

Dramatic coloratura example would be Maria Callas (in opera)

I to this day don't get that nonsense. I can never differentiate between a soprano and a mezzo in Opera. Heavens forbid you start going into the lyric vs dramatic thing and I am  :soul:

In Opera though, easier in pop. Oh I think I might get it though. Barbara Bonney would definitely fall under Lyric soprano. Easier to tell with some than others.

The only real example of a counter tenor I know is David Daniels, but he's not a pop singer so... Yeah.

What about this guy from Urban Zakapa? He has a really feminine voice. I just don't know his name so I can't actually tell you who he is

Which Brazilian singer would be a male contralto?

Kwon Sun Il?

akisme and ahmin both said so, but I was the one who asked :p I was curious, and isn't Sohyang better than Hyo Shin?

well, you know that Kyuhyun is awfully boring. :p I mean, they both have their faults. I think I was the one that asked about that too...

Boring is like Park Hyo Shin's middle name.I have tried with that boy, TRIED! Heavens, he's just so boring!! Mind you, I who finds Jazz and Opera to be entertaining just can't do that boy.

like okay maybe I don't watch enough of his solos or something?? but he barely doesn't do anything with a song. He did great with IS2 and Masquerade and all that, but with his concert solos... he doesn't change it up, he just sings it.

well ok, thanks anyways~

omg, he's boring at times but it also depends on the song :p like Snow Flower. So boring. But his recent acoustic performances are sosososo great, and also his concert performances from the Gift part 2 tour, that concert thing he did right after he got back from the military, and the War is Over concerts. Like do you want some videos? I literally have a PHS playlist on youtube XD

omg. I'm a really big Kyuhyun fan. Half the reason he's one of my SuJu biases is because I love his voice. But as I said to Ahmin, his concert solos are boring to me. He doesn't do much with a song. He's done it a few times with Masquerade and Etude of Memory, but in comparison to what Ailee does - it's nearly nothing. That's what I mean, not that he's a bad singer or something, because that's the last thing he is.

I have yet to see it. Tried his English covers, his lives, his actual songs, even his collabos! Lawd, he is just such a snooze fest. It's stranger because almost all my fave k-pop singers have husky voices but he is the undiscovered cure to insomnia. Why are his songs so boring?! I mean I should be crying at his emotional songs but 2 minutes in it feels like the heavens are testing my patience. Gosh, how can he cover one of my favorite singers (Luther Vandross) and make me bored? Even I don't get it. I mean he sang Superstar well but I could not wait for it to be over. Those 8 minutes felt longer than the SATs.

He was smooth, stable, belted and sang it so well yet, I WAS BORED. Plus the comments from the PHS fans are like "Oh MA GAWD, I could have babies with that voice." I am like onion_msn_smileys-19.gif
