Chungie 1,215
I misunderstood kongwee's comment. I thought he or she was saying that you were judging singers by singing without amplification. What I'm more concerned with is the idea that there's one point where you hit resonance rather than a sliding scale. There is a lot of classical ped that applies, I agree. But that's why I'm hanging back and not commenting on many singers because I'm not comfortable judging pop technique. I just want to make it clear that there isn't just one right answer when it comes to vocal ped in all genres and styles. Just ignore kongwee. According to him "no resonance = no sound". 1
Chungie 1,215
Is just my impression or Aretha couldn't sustain notes for a long time? What? She has sustained notes with resonance many times. I actually think all of the G#4s in this are resonant? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_b39qF_EDc do you want less nugu groups? or higher notes? :p wow can I rectify that? Chungie 1,215
In that case, you people are really ignorance cos it is air passing in your vocal structure to produce sound. The disturbance in air that causing the vibration through out the vocal structure. Other word of vibration is resonation. Unless you are talking about vocal resonance in descriptive sense as I had reply to aki. You make no sense. You were just proven wrong, so you start playing the "ignorance" card. So I'm just gonna ignore you again.
Chungie 1,215
Where in the world, resonance, appear as a music vocabulary or context? It is not even in music expression. Also don't think owning recording stuff is just for celebrity artist, I do have opera singer friend do own these stuff and upload youtube. He is no longer a student and a performing opera singer. It is having an x-ray about your vocal production. It is a way to keep track himself about his vocal. You heard it raw,dry and clean. Anything bad or good will reflect on these setup. A little discomfort in your throat, it will reflect even you are executing a good technique to cover it up. Not talking about strain that you heard a lot of throaty sound. If you really went to studio, you know what I am talking about. It is just that it never cross your mind about it. If you are under label, properly you don't need to pay all these as a label you should able to use their own private studio or even studio gig system. If you are indie properly you gonna own these stuff cos you have no where to practice for studio recording or live gigs. Or course you can pay for these venue if you are rich. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vocal_resonance However, the main point to be drawn from these terms by a singer or speaker is that the result of resonation is to make a better sound. This just contradicted everything you are saying.
Chungie 1,215
Fucking prat. I'm losing it now. "Maestro of any instrumentalist/conductor will not care about the term resonance, cos it is not part of music expression or articulation" Vocals. What part of resonance being part of vocals your tiny useless brain can't fathom? "Not all vocalist care about resonance base on their direction they wanna go." What the eff, most vocalist don't even know what resonance is. Let alone care about it. "The starting of the "troll" part of the vocal, are not strain voices. In fact, they are all similar to the first part except for Haeri and Sohyang part" Do us a favor and cut your ears off. Because it's fucking useless. PS: you said you are work in a recording studio? Congratz you proved you people working in recording studios don't know a shit about vocals, no wonder most pop singers sings like total shit. Chungie 1,215
Just for clarification, do you guys define open throat as not a technique that contributes to good resonance, but a separate technique all together? Do you have some examples perchance? It is a technique that contributes resonance, by maximizing the resonating space in vocal tract. But IDK what you mean by separate technique all together? Chungie 1,215
Well from my basic understanding of your definition of "optimal resonance", wouldn't you have to have an open throat to be resonant? Or is open throat a stylistic technique that changes the quality of an already resonant sound? Yep. You must be open throat, to be resonant. It's like the Base-alkaline relation basically, all resonance are open throat, but not all open throat are resonant. IDK where you read about open throat being a stylistic technique or a separate technique... Also about the application of fach. I think it's applicable in most cases in pop music. Like people like Sooyoung is very untrained, but one can pretty much guess that she's a Light Lyric Soprano. Or Celine a Full Lyric. Or Beyonce a Lyric Mezzo etc.
Chungie 1,215
I just didn't know if you guys had a different definition of what open throat is in pop music. I don't want to look like a fool saying some is singing with an open throat and then find out it's some weird voodoo pop technique. I haven't taken chemistry in 5 years, but I totally appreciate the analogy lol I'm a student of science.
Chungie 1,215
What's the difference between a lyric and a coloratura because Joan Sutherland's voice is light and I thought that's what is characteristic of lyric sopranos but then a website I am on categorized her as coloratura yet Maria Callas is supposedly a lyric which is puzzling the hell out of me. I mean what exactly makes Callas a lyric Soprano? She is very much dramatic and not even light... Coloratura's actually a technique. People who sings lines that requires coloratura skills are termed as Coloratura. And Joan Sutherland is a lyric? What? She's actually a Dramatic Coloratura Soprano. And Maria's used to sing Dramatic Coloratura roles from what I've heard. Where'd you even read that? http://www.livetheshade.com/2012/06/series-first-instalment-in-vocal-summer.html The truth has never been so beautiful Agreed. Though MC actually hits F#5s not F5s in If It's Over xD But soo much accurate than the shit blog by that lesser DivaDevotee.

Chungie 1,215
It was a site that ranked the top ten opera singers of all time. Oh, I actually get it, never mind. Oh and I never said she was a Lyric, I said I thought she was a lyric. She just isn't dramatic to me though. Well, not as I understand the word. She doesn't have the power and fullness to me. She's very light and has quite the control but she's totally not my style. I am not into that light, trills and runs type of things. Nonetheless, I've got to say I'm learning a lot about Opera. Edit: Her queen of the Night sounded so off to me. Ahhh Dramatic Coloraturas doesn't have the real power and volume of a Dramatic. Rather they've more agility. That must've confused you then. Mariah's A5 was resonant? Which? IDK I think she has one somewhere. I do know she has resonant G#5s.
Chungie 1,215
The G#5s in hero to me were still G5s like Christina's Lady Marmalade G#5 sounded like a G5 to me It's a G#5. It sounds sharp for a G5. She has a resonant G#5 in Alone in Love, There's Got to be a Way, Yours and IDK some other songs. Chungie 1,215
Joan Sutherland and Maria Callas are notorious for having an unusual fach. Both are usually described as some form of a dramatic coloratura because they are able to achieve a very large dramatic sound despite the fact that they were also known to sing repertoire left only to very light and agile sopranos and rep given to lyrics as well. So because of their versatility, you're going to see a lot of people categorize them in very different facher. Not entirely true actually. Coloratura is a technique, but a coloratura soprano is required to sing notes above the comfortable range of a normal soprano which is why it's considered a separate fach. True. Hi I was just wondering if this website was accurate or all baloney haha http://www.singwise.com/index.php The site's very good. The coach's legit. I've talked to her a few times, she's great. Chungie 1,215
^ truth Some people even call her a natural mezzo-soprano. Callas herself thought she was originally a mezzo.
