Official Vocals thread (READ OP FIRST)

Jieun really surprised me here. How was her vocals?

And yes, Seohyun and Jessica both have their strengths and weaknesses. But it seems like some of Jessica's "improvements" are more flukes than actual improvement.

Being open throat is not a fluke, having a risen soft palate is not a fluke, less tension on higher notes is not really a fluke, having less tense, better placed, more supported C5s and B4s are not flukes < those all take you actually trying and skill.

A fluke would be achieving head voice once then using weak and airy falsettos afterwards or resonating once then being mediocre afterwards.

When has Seohyun ever put out a stable larynx Eb5

i thought her jack Eb5 was healthier than usual. I didnt say it was necessarily healthy (im not sure by the professional standards, i think it was one of her best) , Ive just never heard jessica pull a healthy Eb5 (i probably just havent seen it yet)

Sica vs Seo again? Sigh... :unimpressed:

seo is fine, I just want clarifications, i want to know why, because my subjectivity is playing with my objectivity rn. Im here to learn chung. Im here to accept anything since you guys are the experts (but still following your advice by not listening to you know who).

Last time Jessica had an Eb5 as far as I know of was in Oppa Nappa and they aren't preforming that song anymore.

So she's consistent with it then? I always thought it was shallow things like the last statement. ofc i cant hear those things so naturally i'd make an ignorant judgement

Her Eb5s in Jack were tense. Sica has not done a healthy Eb5. Same with Seo. The only Eb5s by Sica are Oppa Nappa, and Day by Day I think.

Well this Seo vs Sica topic has been done so many times. It's kinda drag to see it again lol Sica>Seo atm because she has had more fuller moments than Seo. Though both are pretty much on par except for here and there.

She's not consistent. That's why those are called her "moments".

Well, her overall nasality has been reduced..but she doesn't raise her palate all the time, BUT she does try. Watch her face, she desperately tries to raise her soft palate while singing but ultimately fails lol. She has been producing better C5s and B4s, her B4s in her recent OST if I recall correctly are fuller than her B4s in Heaven, and the D5 is TaeYeon tense..which is A LOT less tense than Jessica tense D5...list to Honey lol.

Ohh okay I see now. The tense thing, thats when your larynx raises right?

Can someone post examples of open throat, resonance, and the ring? (or was the ring the same as resonance...)
I wanna compare.

Open-Throat

@ 3:10

@0:25 Resonance @2:12 Ring

The Ring is just a more focused version of Resonance.

im done. I think I have a better idea know. its just that before I wasnt satisfied with fuller moments, because I wasnt sure what that meant. But I know now.

Thanks heaps chung

I haven't listened to the particular OST, but Taeyeon was pulling F5s in Baby Steps and nothing can be as tense as those were lol. They were so cringe-worthy to watch

Can I get detailed info on how Jessica has improved lol.

NP.

She means it's as tensed as Taeyeon which is a bit less tensed than Jessica LOL Taeyeon tensed D5... like in The Boys or Mistake. Baby Steps' E5s/F#5s are just bad.

There's no F5 in Baby Steps lol F5 would be offkey. It's F#5.

Jessica has done a few okay notes in their tour recently. Like alright C5 in AMLIFY, C#5 in RDR etc. And even a decent B4 I think somewhere.

one last thing to clock. Jiyul said that SEO would than jessica be better when she achieves open

throat. Wouldn't we have to first test consistency, because Jessica has done open throat twice but SEO still hasn't. Is that the here and there you were talking about?so where does SEO do better.

Here and there are moments, like Seo's okay C#5 from one perf of RDR frm the tour or Jessica's C5 from AMLIFY etc. Though from my knowledge Sica has done more okay C5s (How Great is Your Love live, Dear Mom frm Coway concert, AMLIFY, etc.).

Can you guys explain to me AS vocals? tell what are their mistakes, flaws etc. plz dont ignore thank you

I only am familiar with Raina. She's quite mediocre. Strains a lot, and most of her belts are done with a raised larynx (like the ones in First Love perfs).

Jung-ah seems to sing in her comfort most of the time therefore she doesn't strain nor screech as much.

Seriously, are we even sure that those Bb4s were open-throated? Not to me. I listened to it again and they were no overtones. Seohyun has been more consistent during their Japanese Tour where I recall she has done more OK C#5s than Jessica. It's safe to say they're still even now.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wG2OxVq3obU

Example: Compare 2:02 vs 2:55. One's C#5 was clearly less tense than the other. It was like that in other concert dates too.

*Ignores everything to do with Jessica VS Seohyun*

Who is the most experienced at this? I'm thinking Ahmin cause you guys seem to ask him whenever you are not sure about someone xD.

Josias >>>>>>> Errybody else

Does that sound like Falsetto to you ?

That's definitely head voice.

YAAAAAAAAS. It's out.  :ahmagah:

Stop lying. I never said that.

AMAZING SHE'S SLAYING EVERYTHING IT'S JUST SO GOOD LIKE WHY? WHY IS SHE SO PERFECT? Her dancing is awful though, so stiff lool.

How is ock joo hyun as a vocalist in comparison to Ailee or even Sohyang?

Sohyang > Ock Joo Hyun > Ailee.

What would you guys look for/what questions asked when looking for a vocal coach?

I'm not interested in singing professionally or anything, just want to improve my high range and not sound so bad after A4 / be able to hit notes higher than C#5 consistently/properly if possible, learn how to breathe and use mixed voice / head voice better.
