Heard that Step Back song. The AESPA girls added nothing and tbh they should have sent Ningning and Giselle instead. Too whiny overall but Giselle is an interesting rapper.

Why are you posting this in the vocal thread and not in the salty complaining thread ? I am asking seriously, it have nothing to do with vocals and will just get you clowned...

I understand that to a lot of people, it's not a big change. But to me, someone who has followed her career closely for almost 20 years, it's very obvious that her voice has regressed. Like I listened to her GOT album and her Kiss My Lips album and there were a big difference in the quality of her voice for me. It's not bad now, don't get me wrong I still enjoy listening to her. I'm just not sure the increase in raspiness and the change in timbre are because of stylistic choices or a regression over time? I don't think the raspiness and the thinner tone were intentional. She was overworked for really long time and I knew she talked about feeling burned out before releasing Hurricane Venus (that album was the mark of regression for me), and she was the type of performers that focus more on dancing training than vocal training, so maybe because of that that her voice has changed?

She has still got the same head voice lows and the same limit at mix, whatever there is a change to a more unpleasant timber to your taste/more raspiness or not won't change the fact that she is safely above Winter and Seulgi nowadays unlike what some say.

Chen and kyungsoo

I'm not sure with baekhyun

You are not sure about Baekhyun ? As far as I know (Someone can correct me if I am wrong) in a mid belting range he resonant more consistently than Kyungsoo.

IMO she has support, is just shallow. In G#4/A4 she starts to elevate her larynx and close her throat, but she still has some groundness in this area. Anything above is strained, nasal and tight.

lol she is a soprano, even if she doesn't support above G#4/A4 it doesn't mean she start to close her throat this low or that anything above it will be strained and tight.

Low key unfair to use that Crying performance for Soyou, she was mad sick during that performance, and it was obvious.

She sound quite similar to that in masked singer and in some of her covers...

And Rainbow's Hyunyoung or she is inactive too?

I think that she still do some covers and stuff, not a lot though. (She sounds average to me nowadays but I might be wrong)

also what's up with the snarky comments, I guess you cant have a different opinions on how I would rank a singer's abilities.

I mean... you are just not making sense lol, I saw in the past comments of ppl who disagree with how Baz/the blog rank singers, but they said what they said with some sort of ideology behind it, doesn't seem to be the case with you.

No a soprano will not -always- rank above a lower female voice type. First of all, bcoz not all sopranos will  for sure support higher than a mezzo/contralto, Lee Jiyoung is a mezzo who can handle C5s, can Rose/Nayeon/Jongyeon/Jihyo (who are all high sopranos) do it ? no. Second of all, bcoz lower voices are noted as being lower placed and therefore aren't expected to do the same as higher ones, there is different standard for each voice type, for sopranos, for mezzos and for contraltos.

And don't even let me start with your "born with potential" thing, a lot of singers faced major improvements thanks to hard work. What will you say about that ? I mean, maybe they just pressed the pokemon evolution switch they were born with

@ZRH23 So I wondered whats Cheryl Porter's level, she seem to have a kinda old school approach with less brightness and a lot of focus on the 4th octave but still she seem to handle up to C5-D5 area fine in mix, her mid belts can have some roundness and fullness, and she have a quite full head voice, based on this videos where would you place her in the AA and up area ?

1:11 head voice D5-E5, 2:21 A4

1:44 Eb5, 1:49 Eb5, 2:21 D5-B4, 2:26 D5, 2:28 F#5 in upper, 2:51 C6 in upper

0:01-0:10 C#5s and A4s, 0:11 E5, 0:21 F5 head voice, 0:23 Bb5, 0:28 G#5, 0:35-0:54 sustained B4s and phrased C#5s

3:37 C5

2:58 head voice D5, 3:45 C5, 3:56 C5

3:27 C5

4:07 A4

Sorry if its to many clips, you don't have to listen to all of them.

I really think Yuqi from (G)-Idle is such an underrated singer. What do y'all think? Is she good?

Technique wise ? she is not too impressive or good, at her best some G4-A4 are passable but even in this range tension is not unusual.

2:25 @Tsabar i knew they teach but i never knew who's their students ( it funny cause i know a non korean who also took lessons with her 😂)

I only found one student of Yona before, but she only does covers in youtube she didn't debut yet, so its nice to have some names finally, is any of those singers a standout though ? (I guess Changsub is, tbh honnest Yona strike me as someone who will focus on stylstic delivery more than correct technique when teaching, but I could be wrong). Oh its cool that you know someone who studied under her.

A bit disappointed ngl. The thickness of her voice sounds a bit artificial, XTina style sort of. She does have some support in the 5th octave but there's no real roundness at any point, it's mostly just bright and an open vowel but not a truly open throat kinda sound. Those C5s in The Prayer really showcased that. Her head voice is nice though yeah. AA ish sounds about right.

Thanks for replying !

Can anyone  tell and know what the supported range of Big Mama's Lee JiYoug is?

I am actually working on a range video of her, from what I am hearing she usually does fine around F#3-B4/C5-E5, I am not sure about the lows coz those can be fairly inconsistent, also, her mix can get rough above Bb4 when not well rested (but thats not always the case).

F#3 for a mezzo isn't very good, is it? The best sopranos support F#3/G3

I thought she would be better in head voice, but I believe an E5 is ok, although she seems to have F5-G#5 in head voice/falsetto which are good or easily reached.

Would she be average or above average?

Shin Yeona is better than her or both are the same level?

Oh, she does have some passable F5s in head it seems, I am just being safe with it for now until I finish the video.

She would be atleast above average.

I am not sure about who is better between her and Yona, if both are mezzos like I think than Yona may have the edge due to having a more consistent handle on the lower 5th octave ? idk for sure.
