There were a lot of off pitch moments, everyone went off, I mean really everyone, even Taeyeon, some are very obvious tbh.

Jessica's attempts at falsetto were flops and her C#5s were mediocre too, BUT she did a very nice/decent B4 @ 2:52, in studio it was in falsetto so that was a little musicianship!

Taeyeon's C#5s in her first chorus were decent and the last one @ 0:36 was good. However the one in the bridge was tense and flat I think?

Everybody was off-pitch, but it was minor tbh. I think each of the girls only went off pitch on 5ish or less notes in total, and almost all off notes were flat only by a semitone or so I think. Some girls like Sooyoung and Hyoyeon barely had any flat/sharp notes :O maybe like 1, but it's so tiny...

Overall, to most people on their first listen, these minor discrepancies in pitch aren't really noticeable because not many notes were flat and not by much. I didn't even notice any noteable pitch issues until I watched the performance like 3 times LOL (except for Sunny's line, because low notes are just not her forte lol). Also, by nature of the song, some of the girls may have purposely sung a little "flat" just for stylistic purposes, because this song is kind of r&b ish... I feel like Tiffany and Seohyun were singing with this approach. I would consider their Back Hug performances extremely pitchy and hard to listen to, but this Goodbye stage was at least average in terms of pitch. In my opinion it didn't take away from the performance like Back Hug, and it wasn't very obvious for me.

I think Jessica should try using head voice because I think she used head voice up to D6 in the opera comedy thing they did on radio.. so it's not like she can only use falsetto :(

And I think Taeyeon's C#5 in the bridge was fluctuating between being sharp and flat in the beginning of the note but then she tried to resolved it and it began to even out to a true C#5 I THINK.... lol this is just what I hear. Anyways for soshi, this performance was good because nobody had a real off moment. Like, yes Jessica was tense, but it's not breaking news or anything lol we know she's tense, but at least she wasn't as unstable as she could have been (if she sung those C#5's like she usually did in Run Devil Run, then I'd be worried). Being tense in that range is normal for her lol so nobody really did worse than their usual.

RnB is stylistically flat? What? ._. RnB can be stylistically tight not flat lol the song isn't really rnb either but hmmm yeah lol and as I said they went flat like once only, not more than that lol

tbh I had to think about it for a while because I was like wait. what's r&b LOL but basically i think the girls tried singing with a slur that made their notes sound flat-ish (tiffany and seohyun). but if they werent then oh well :D

Oh TaeYeon..your poor throat.

She really should have done it with head voice T_T

Nowadays, Jessica sticks closer to her comfort range but Taeyeon keeps pushing up.

If anything Taengoo should take notes from Jessica's restraint and start going back to her domain of C5 and C#5's >_<

I'd rather her have a lovely resonant C#5 again instead of a strained E5 or F#5 :///

@3:04 that run was not good, but overall I can't really tell cuz I looked for a different fancam, and the E5's sound pretty good to me, but then the F#5's in the other one sound less focused and less present, they're heady but not bad at all. That E5 at 7:20 was too heady and not that greatly placed, the line was a bit pitchy, but not bad. Not bad at all, overall, these higher notes could be resonant, the quality is pretty sucky and the difference between the two videos too, but I'd say they were well done. The F#5's were nice just kinda heady.

Thank you!!!!!!

Guys... I just fell in love with John Park, again. And with this performance...

I've always liked John Park! He's like one of the very few people in the music industry that has the same voice type and range as me.

Like... I can actually sing his songs without changing the pitch electronically lol.

Matty doesn't think there are that many off-pitch moments though. XDDDD

tbh I didn't hear many either.... it wasn't perfect but I wouldn't say there were "a lot" of off pitch moments :3

Anyways I noticed nobody posted the performance of EXO-M at the chinese version of immortal song that was filmed in October but only aired like LAST WEEK. LOL.

I wanna ask something. I have like this build up of phelgm or mucus at the back of my soft palate just above my throat/epiglottis. It doesnt bother my breathing or eating but i feel like it affects my singing. Like I feel like i cant support my notes even when I try to lift my soft palate. Sometimes it makes me tense up and it makes me go pitchy. If i lift my soft palate too many times, it begins to hurt.

Drink water? o-o

Idk if I'm thinking of the same thing but sometimes I have this feeling that there's something stuck at the back of my soft palate too, but it's just dryness and sometimes I have some saliva like stuck there LOL so I have to drink some water and swallow well

How is she? :3

I saw this! I fell in love lol. AGAIN XD

I think she did around the same as Seohyun? Except Wendy sings with more legato. For example Wendy connected her notes a little more whereas Seohyun cut up the melody at some parts. They did around the same as far as pitch is concerned too I think and there weren't any particularly difficult parts in the song so yea that's it :D I liked it!

actually perhaps Seohyun taught her the song because Seohyun performed this song with the exact same guitar arrangement... twice. lol.

Here's another video of her. She recorded this herself :3

Her tone sounds more mature than Taeyeon's :3 That song Speak Now is just way too cute for her IMO She needs more soulful songs

The Fantastic Baby cover wasn't that good imo XD personally I don't think it was her style and I thought that Speak Now matched her perfectly.

Personally I don't think she has "soulful" voice. Someone with a "soulful" voice to me would be someone like Ailee or Hyorin who have rich voices with a lot of depth. Their voices sound different in a lot of places, and they have a singing style that kind of draws you in.

Wendy's tone is very girlish and light and although I do think she sounds different from Taeyeon, I don't think she sounds more mature, just... different? ^^''

But I love her and her voice and I hope she continues improving.

I think she made that cover on her old youtube channel (which is now blocked) and someone downloaded and reuploaded it...?

First time posting in this thread, but I have to disagree with you. I think the Fantastic Baby/Haru Haru sounded more like her style, while the Speak Now cover sounded super basic. There was no emotion at all. The FB cover on the other hand, had a lot of emotion, and even though there were some parts where she was flat or couldn't hit the low note properly, it still sounded better than that soulless Taylor Swift cover. . . I rather take an imperfect, soulful cover over a robotic cover. Or baby I'm just being biased because I can't stand Taylor Swift. xD

How was the Speak Now cover emotionless..? Just because it wasn't sultry, solemn, contemporary, or slow doesn't mean it was emotionless o_o

She was smiling and grooving along with the guitar.... being sweet, bright, or cheerful are emotions too.

Seohyun's cover was robotic to me. Seohyun focused only on hitting the right chord on the guitar and the right notes.

Wendy however understands English, was more fluent with the guitar and strumming, and to me, emotion and passion was oozing out of her voice.

The FB cover sounded extremely awkward, especially the "boom shakalaka" parts.... not to mention the instrumental was low quality.

Anyways, your opinion is your opinion and mine is mine, but just remember that everything we said just now is subjective so don't treat it as a fact ^^

p.s. Taeyeon's voice to me isn't robotic either..... lol idk how you got that idea o-o

I think this may have been one of Jessica's best D5's?

Well most of her California Girls D5's were open but I like this one the best :D

@ 2:18

This is also the perf where Jessica did some on-the-spot ad libbing at the end  :hurr:

her "california giiiuuuiiirls.... oh yeeeeaaahhh" part gave me life tbh

Tiffany's "neon wae*" is so obviously lipsynced nowadays though... if you pay attention it's the exact same in almost every one of their performances... it sounds electronized, edited, and just not live. lipsyncing doesn't matter when we're just talking about technique, but it does when we're talking about live consistency. thought i'd point that out.... i mean if you dont believe me you can pull up their 3 most recent performances and play her "neon wae" consecutively and see if you hear a difference lol

ex: in this performance you can hear the autotune o-o

compare it with this:

the "neon wae" sounds exactly the same, auto-tune and all.

and these are just two examples lol

2:50 that's a heady F#5 or is falsetto??

I thinks he's straining.... Baek is kind of a strainer right? That's the highest note I heard from him...

that was G5! :D

and he went up to C#6 in weekly idol but it was horrible lol

I wasn't that far omg, hope that means my hearing is getting better >.<

Yeah, I remember that battle XD, but that can't be inside his vocal range since he was just ascending in the scale, am i right?

Yea I don't think I would include it in Baekhyun's vocal range since it wasn't serious and it was more of a scream, kind of like Sunny's G6 in Tiffany's cover of All I Want for Christmas is You XDD Like it shows his potential but it's not in his usable vocal range per se so I wouldn't include it officially.

I would personally include Xiumin's C#6 though, because it was sustained and he did it several times even with a little vibrato. He was aiming for that particular note so yea :D

She has improved considerably cuz she's much more supported and consistent than she's ever been but she still strains and has problems of consistency even within her same performances, but still she is much better than she's ever been. However so she's still not better than Seohyun and Jessica per se, though she is doing better than Seohyun recently, overall she's not shown enough vocal ability to be really better than Jessica, whereas Jessica hasn't shown that she's getting better but nor that she's worse than Tiffany either, cuz Jessica still is a smarter vocalist than Tiffany. Tiffany tries to sing things she can't, like when she sang My Love Will Show You Everything, We Belong Together, Lady Marmalade, whereas Jessica chooses things as safely as possible, like Someday and Almost, in lower keys specially. So I mean she's better than before but not safely better than the other girls.

OT but I love how you type only in run-on sentences lol XD

Is Tiffany's high note in Mr. Mr. pre-recorded?

Every time I always suspect lipsyncing, people get mad at me (on and off this forum) LOL but I think some of her high notes were reused in some performances, because I've watched all of them and some of them sound the same. Of course I don't remember exactly which performances were the ones where her high note was pre-recorded, but I don't have the energy to go find them D: The other girls have had some repeated pre-recorded lines/high notes too, such as Jessica's ad lib at the end (I think I can recall these performances where it's the same though).

I'm pretty sure majority of them were live. Maybe they sound the same because they are all made by the same person ? And they are all strained by the same ?

Well most of them are but I think some were pre-recorded XD

btw did anyone find that second live performance of Everyday Love?!?! I've been searching for weeks LOL.

Like in that little snippet we hear Taeyeon's C#5's but the uploader cut Tiffany, Jessica, Seohyun, and Sunny's C#5's...

bless your soul~

tiffany did way better this time.

taeyeon seems to have fixed her flatness in the first live too.

i think the girls watched their performance and evaluated themselves lol

WHY ISNT ANYONE UPLOADING JESSICA'S DOE.

:horror:  :horror:  :horror:

It's actually a pretty basic technique, most vocal instructors tell their students to do that when they start lessons and what not, just about ever singer knows about the crouch technique. She's actually done it before, actually, I think all SNSD vocalist have.

I feel like Lina might be mentoring her (tiffany) again D:

CAN TAEYEON AND JESSICA JOIN THE CLASS TOO PLS AND LEAVE THAT OTHER GUY.

What leads you to believe that ?

Those two are Kim JoHan's students right ? As far I know he's a Decent vocalist or Good. Doesn't really matter, considering how I don't believe he's a very good teacher.

idk, other members have suggested that maybe Lina took Tiffany as a mentee again a while ago and the idea has stuck in my mind ever since lol

And yep. I feel like Taeyeon could have achieved resonance way closer to debut if she had a better teacher...
