I'm not questioning YeEun's though, we can live that for later. I mean to me, on what I know and understand, SunYe's Bb5 is a tense head voice if anything since it's not drown out, we could say it say it's pretty yknow loud and bright, not weak and dynamic-less and it's not breathy... so why is it a falsetto?

4:43 It's weak and restricted from dynamics.

It didn't sound weak as in falsetto weak, it just sounded tense. As far as we've established, they're produced similarly, but not the same. A falsetto doesn't have the full cord connection, with that being said, you can have a tense weaker head voice if your cords are properly closed but the tension in the throat isn't addressed, which happens in a tense belt for an example, cords are closed but it could be tense. My ideal idea of a falsetto for the whole disconnected cords point is that it's breathy, which indicates the cords not being fully closed. Wouldn't it then be a tense head voice instead? I'm surprised by how it sounds on that fancam though...

It sounded as weak as a tense falsetto to me. Yes, I know.

Why did you cut all of that out? Did you mean "Yes I know all of that so lemme cross it out"? Then I get it lol I still go with tense head voice, it definitely sounds tense and closed in there, but still Idk >_< also yeah YeEun might be head voice~

Yeah I meant that lol. I still wouldn't consider Sunye's note HV (a true one).

i feel like this probably got lost in the whole exo argument...

The first video, he did alright overall, except for the lower notes (they weren't good and he went kinda pitchy too). He sang in falsetto in the second video. Imo, he isn't bad, but he isn't decent either vocally.

For me(opinion): Chen/>D.O> Baekhyun

Even though I like D.O's tone better

Can you give me the link to the perf at 3:18 please! Chen's voice sounds wonderful and more suited to this kind of music! I The F#4 and B4 sound wonderful! It's bright and I like it!

1:59-2:02 D.O eww just stop, then it got better; the resonant A4 was good! Also D.O's A4-C5 at the end was very nice and amusing.

Baekhyun's tone isn't my fav, although I really liked: 3:12-3:15

IMO,

F#4: Chen (opened) > D.O > Baekhyun

G4: Chen (I believe it was opened too) > Baekhyun > D.O (he went kinda throaty)

G#4: D.O (yes he was tense at the beginning, but he adjusted it later and it became better relatively) > Chen > Baekhyun (tense)

A4: D.O (resonant) > Baekhyun (2nd one was better) > Chen (tense)

Bb4: D.O (better placement and relatively less tense, though still tense) > Chen/Baekhyun (Chen had slightly better placement than Baekhyun but it was tad more tense than the latter)

B4: Chen > Baekhyun (They were both pinched, but Chen, less)

C5: D.O/Chen > Baekhyun (that was hard tbh. Chen's was so restricted while D.O's vibrato was so forced. Baekhyun's was more strained than these two)

Chen takes the F#4, G4 and B4. D.O takes the G#4, A4 and Bb4. They're both equal on one note (C5). It's a tie overall.

I mostly agree, I don't think D.O.'s G4 was bad on its own, but the G#4 he ascended to afterwards, was not good. lol and the G#4 was confusing because Chen didn't sustain it and D.O.'s was bad at first but got much better afterwards. The C5's were just bad. LOL

Tbh, it seemed more like a Chen vs D.O vocal battle rather the a trio vocal battle lol. Baekhyun's notes below Bb4 were not bad (especially the A4. I think I've heard better F#4s and G#4s from him). I think it's safe to say they do alright up to A4.

@2:24 one of her best c#5s?

:stare:

The C#5s were lip-synced...

Jessica's best Bb4 at 2:11?

#whentaengsicsings

It was just okay. It was also slightly pushed, but I can't be sure due to the audio quality. Her throat wasn't opened enough (along with her support there that wasn't strong enough).

Thoughts? I think this version is better than the original studio one

Bom and Dara did poorly. They were singing with restricted and tense throat almost throughout the whole song. The others did okay for them (aside from the nasality).

Does anyone here follow Superstar K5?

Who are your favorite so far among the Top 10 finalists? Mine would be:

Park Jae-jung

Song Hee-jin

I really like Kim Nayoung too.

Too bad she didn't make it to the Top 10.   :._.:

I don't follow Superstar K5, but the female singer is not bad. I like her voice. Decent. The first one has a nice voice too, but he isn't as good as her.

Donghae just tweeted this Korean Gospel song by a group names LAST...

And I'm starting to think that Gospel singers all over the world are just superior (as they should be). They have "black gospel" in their description (side-eyed that a little but I get it)...lol and I can hear that they been listening them some Donnie McClurkin and Tamela Mann. One of those girls sound like she could come for Sohyang

Also which female group in Korea can sing this song like this?

Superior.

Wow. I love it. The two girls don't sound like normal light sopranos, but their vocals <3

Lol. No one. Not even CSJH.

may I know who does better in the intro belt of MAMA, chen or DO?

D.O does better until he hits the C5, but Chen does better with the C5.

ok, so that's pretty much the limit.

Then how about in KPOP? And by who?

I don't think that's the limit, though. Some baritones-bass in opera can resonate lower than Bb2 and apparently light coloraturas have resonated up to B6/C7 (staccatos) or a bit higher.

I'm not sure, but I'm guessing D4/E4 and G#5 or a bit higher.

It's easier to be resonant in your lower mix and your chest.. and even in your head voice.. it really just depends on how developed your registers are. Belting is the hardest because you need all that much support not to strain since it's that middle part, high area of the voice.

Actually, the lower you go in your chest voice, the harder it is for you to project your voice. I don't know if you recall, but I showed you that video of a baritone from opera projecting a note in the 2nd octave. It was crazy.

^ I don't remember exactly, but you're probably right. No, it was a baritone. So you meant the higher extremes of the chest voice? ok.

There's Luna's HV  in IS as an example. No one in K-pop has a very solid and developed chest voice, though.

How are some of the more operatic singers like Juan Diego Flores and Sumi Jo? Also, I read somewhere that Miley Cyrus is a contralto, but is she really? I suck at "diagnosing" voice types.

IDK about the first singer, but Sumi Jo is apparently not that good compared to other light coloraturas (in opera standards).

How good is Lady Gaga as a vocalist? Is she on the same level as Hyorin/Jea? Does she resonate frequently?

She's more of a musician. She's decent technique wise, but her musicality makes her a "good" vocalist. She rarely goes out of her comfort zone. I'd say her column of sound starts to thin above E5. She has a solid sound below that, though.

I think Tiffany did worse than Seohyun D: Personally I think in that performance, the F5's are Taeyeon=Jessica>Seohyun>Tiffany... I think....

oh really? Idk, I haven't heard Yeeun sing at all for years so I can't really make that comparison well I suppose :/

Tbh, Taeyeon, Tiffany and Jessica's note were equally pinched. I think Seohyun's note is the worst since it sounds rather strangled and more tense.

I had voice lessons when I was 8 or 11 (i forgot) and I don't think it helped much. My teacher just had me do vocal exercises/warmups and had me do some songs.

Proper voice lessons are supposed to effectively help you widen your range. I think you need to find the proper one.

i'm silently quoting myself, because I didn't get a reply :derp:

also, about Sohyang, in what register does she usually sing in? like in that video from just now around 0:05?

The ranking goes like this: U.ji > Heyeon >>>>>>>> DaHye > HaeRyeong.

Belting/Middle to Upper Register mostly. That is in the upper register (not sure if it's falsetto, head or whistle register, though)

This is my favorite immortal performance. was it good vocal?

Technically, it wasn't. She's not known to have a good technique. But stylistically and interpretation wise, yeah it was good performance.

I thought so too but then I think Akisame said the other way around and then I remember how Luhan can keep weight and tonality up to A4 better than Suho. I mean they're pretty similar lol

Luhan, up to A4?... I think it's more like up to G4. Suho's larynx is a bit more stable than Luhan around the G4/G#4 area and slightly above.
