JihyoStoleMyHeartAYAYAY 22,189
A farmer was walking along his farm one day when he stumbled upon a huge shell. Scientists flocked to see what it really was. After a thorough investigation, it was revealed to be something prehistoric! Antonio Nievas, a humble Argentinian farmer, was just tending to his land when he stumbled upon a huge shell. Nievas likened the features of the shell to that of a rock-like egg. It was about a meter long and it was black and scaly. The strange discovery attracted scientists and the media. People were curious about the origins of this peculiar oddity. Nievas’ farm was turned into a geological site. After a thorough investigation, it was discovered that what Nievas accidentally found was actually a prehistoric fossil! via Social PeesThe huge shell was actually the fossilized remains of a Glyptodont. This prehistoric creature is believed to be the ancient ancestor to the modern-day armadillo. Glyptodonts can grow to as large as 3 meters long – roughly as big and as heavy as a Volkswagen Beetle. via Social PeesScientists and historians were overjoyed and excited by the find. Adrian Lister, a historian working for the National History Museum of London said: “I think it is quite likely this is genuine. The shell looks like a genuine glyptodont shell, and the hole is “wear and tearâ€, not where the head or tail went.†Another expert, Alejandro Kramarz of the Bernadino Rivadavia Natural Sciences Museum, weighed in: “There is no doubt that it looks like a glyptodont.†Dr. Ross MacPhee, who works as a curator for the American Museum of Natural History’s Department of Mammalogy, stated: “It looks real enough. Complete shells are rarely found, but they do occur.†via Daily Mail Dr. Bill Sellers from The University of Manchester was a bit skeptical but still had high hopes that it actually belonged to a real Glyptodont. He said: “The wear and tear is just what you’d expect. Glyptodonts aren’t so old, as they’re from the Pleistocene, so you can get really excellent preservation.†“However, on the other hand, it is a little bit small. The carapace is supposed to be about two meters long but I guess there must have been juveniles and I expect there were some relatively small individuals, too.†This scientific find is a monumental discovery that could help us learn so much more about out planet’s rich biological history.
