Woman 'pushed' head-first down stairs in Airbnb dispute

Dutch police are investigating an alleged racist assault that ended with a woman falling head-first down a long stairwell in Amsterdam following a hostile Airbnb dispute.

The woman was rushed to hospital suffering internal injuries and bruising, according to a friend who filmed the disturbing incident and posted it to Instagram on Sunday.

Police are trying to establish if the woman was pushed by an Airbnb landlord after she and her friends were accused of being too slow checking out, Dutch news outlet AD reports.

Confronting video of the encounter shows a man and a woman arguing and struggling in the front door of the apartment.

The man urges her repeatedly to get "out now" and then appears to push her down the stairs, causing her to slide rapidly face-first into the floor below.

The injured woman is a friend of South African photographer Muholi Zanele, who is currently exhibiting her work at the city's Stedelijk Museum.

Zanele claimed on Instagram her friend was a victim of a racist attack.

Her friend was "pushed downstairs" by the Airbnb owner where we stayed, Zanele wrote.

"He threw their belongings out ... for few mins (sic) late checkout," she continued.

"She collapsed and ended up in hospital. She suffered internal injuries and bruises. Am so angry with this I couldn't even sleep. This is racism and can't be justified... violence on black bodies as you can see in this video."

Amsterdam police said the group of four friends were meant to check out at 11am but were still in the house at 12:30pm, according to AD.

Remarkably, the woman has been discharged from hospital with light injuries.

Police have arrested the Airbnb landlord but Dutch media did not confirm if charges have yet been laid.

Sick pig and a fcking coward pushing a woman down the stairs and proceeding to try and get her out.

Okay he didn't try to push her out I get it. He also probably just wanted to hug her, but it all went wrong.

I'm always hesitant with these types of videos....especially when the uploader is clearly trying to push an agenda. There is obviously no excuse for putting hands on other people, but i'm fairly sure there is more to this than what is shown in the video, and it probably doesn't paint the guests in a good light.

It's not racism everytime a white person hurts a black person.

^this. Plus the guy freaked out right away and told people to call an ambulance sounding worried. He didn't come across as a racist to me in this video. But we can't know for sure. It's up to the police to decide.

Don't try to spin this into something it's not. The guy isn't trying to get her out after "pushing" her. After she fell he rushes down and is telling people to call an ambulance.

That's what it looked like, why would you use your force on anyone, no matter what?

What makes this racist? I can't understand anything the man is saying.

Regardles it was certainly wrong of this man to push her, staircase or not. I don't think he intended for her to fall, but that's what happened and it's entirely his fault. She could have died. This is why you never should get physical with someone like that!

Now look, the man was wrong for unintentionally pushing her down the stairwell but that doesn't mean you get to scream 'racism!' because of what happened. It looked like he was trying to throw her out but was way too aggressive and ended up pushing her down the stairs.

Best case scenario, an accident

Worse case, assualt.

Purposely adding inflammatory tags to the instagram video works against her. It makes me feel like the guy had a reason for shoving her out and he wasn't just being a dick.

How am I supposed to trust the words of a person who clearly does not understand what racism means and uses #genderbasedviolence as a tag where it doesn't apply? 5cF9Biq.png

Being Dutch I went to do some background searching, I didn't find much but just some clarification.

The woman was staying along with 3 other women and they were one and a half hour late in checking out, which led to the argument they had with that man.

Also he told a woman you can hear in the background(the one with the dutch accent) to call an ambulance after she fell.

Now this doesn't excuse the man from what he did by any means, as violence is never the way to go and pushing her of such steep stairs is especially bad but to call this racist and/or gender violence without any clear evidence to suggest such is completely wrong if you ask me, as all we can see here is the conclusion of an argument in which the man was clearly in the wrong, while we see nothing about what happened before this.
