Twice's vocal level is...

Recommended Posts

Remember people, if you want to make a relevant thread on OH, you just need to put Twice and vocal in the title. Bam, 10 pages in your face right there.

Anyway, i'm here for people who genuinely want to know more about Twice's vocal. Onces never claim that they're the best vocal group or the best performing group on stages so salty squads can choke (Yes, i'm looking at you, bishes). Besides those "they're the worst Kpop group ever", "they're talentless but still slay the hell outta my faves so i have to come for their ass" thingy, they can't come for Twice for other reasons so it's understandable that there are always exaggeration somewhere in those threads. Here are some of Twice's vocal performance that i can find at this moment. Feel free to add more, Onces.

J.Y Park even said that he doesn't train his idols to be amazing singers, he trains them to bring out their honesty.
You can really tell that Twice members (and Got7 if you watch some of their stuff) don't try to showoff their voice but they stick with a simple and humble range. Their songs don't compliment any specific member but they try their best to give each of them a chance to show their vocal color. I mean, the vocal color that they want to show. Songs like Cheer Up, Signal, If You Do and Never Ever are good examples of the JYP sibling groups prioritizing the individuality of the voice rather than the vocal prowess of the groups.
Obviously you shouldn't compare them to amazing vocal groups like MAMAMOO or SISTAR but it's not like the groups are trying to be like them. Eventually they'll grow as artists and people will be able to appreciate their full range.
Look at Wonder Girls and 2PM. They started with songs like Tell Me, So Hot & 10 out of 10. Those aren't songs that showcase amazing vocal skills, but WG and 2PM's new songs like Why So Lonely and Promise have a wider range and show off more vocals.
JYP artists don't aim to impress but they strive to be honest.

Hey, do you actually have some clips of more vocally intricate songs/performances where we can clearly hear harmony (preferably voice isolation)?

kinda like this

They're average and the vocal line is good enough. Honestly them not being perfect and having flaws makes them that much more relatable to me. I've listened to music my whole life without ever thinking about my fave artists vocal or other capabilities any further than whether I like their voices or dancing or charisma etc.

tbh. i've never even thought about live performance. if i like their songs then i like their songs. and if i happen to like their songs and their personalities, i stan. simple as that

I mean we all heard the knock knock video, harmonization isn't gonna happen. but you can hear jihyo/nayeon sounding, well, fine.

the point of this thread is that they're don't always sound like that indefensible chorus. they sound fine.

Well good lives are a plus but otherwise I operate the same way than you. I like Twice songs and the member personalities and no technicalities or a bad performance here or there is gonna change that laugh.png

I know, but even clips of voice isolation on their songs can give me an idea of their group vocals as a unit, more than just the sum of the parts you know?

I was just wondering if any onces have the odd videos that would be hard to find by just youtubing/googling.

"Great main vocal and other girls are good vocals too" is a big reach bro. I'm not bashing them but their main vocal is not "great" to think that she trained for 10 years and the rest is not even average. As fans you should also have to accept their flaws. Btw to be able to sing live is not even an improvement because it's one of the qualities of an idol before even debuting, an improvement is when they can sing live in stable voices without whispering or mouthing the words. And honestly this isn't even just about Twice, it should be on all of kpop. But the problem is Jihyo and Nayeon has been hard carrying the group of nine people when those two isn't even stable singers. I'm gonna get negged for this and my post won't really matter anyways but whatever.

eh, Jihyo and Nayeon are actually stable imo, especially jihyo, they just can't go high. Chaeyoung is stable, Jungyeon is stable (but we don't know how she'd handle Jihyo and Nayeon's parts if she ever received them).

Tzuyu can't sing loud or high but she is doing fine with what she has. Dahyun has bad breathing control but she generally gets by and I personally really like her tone. Mina sounds bad as soon as she goes high, but she's pretty stable in range.

Momo should stick to talking-ish parts like the one she had at the beginning of LOA, Sana should not be given lines that have significant fluctuations in pitch.

just don't make sana and momo try to harmonize, which is what made the knock knock video so tragic

while I know that some members really cannot sing, and none of them have a wide range, I don't think it's right to dismiss Jihyo, Nayeon Jungyeon, and Chaeyoung like that.

Jihyo train to an actress for 6-7 years & an idol for 3-4 years= 10 years of training.

stealing the clip from above me:

ik her voice isn't really isolated here but it's obvious she's good:

some more clear-ish clips:

unfortunately I don't have too many clips on hand at all times and I think you might actually be looking for harmonizing which only the last one really qualifies for, but you get the idea that jihyo and nayeon know what they're doing and mina has a small but nice voice. jungyeon and chaeyoung are also decent but I can't find any clips for them, sorry :/
