I'm writing a research proposal and I can't seem to pick a topic.

These are the three topic I was thinking of:

1. Racial Profiling

2. Transgender Rights

3. Prisons - Private prisons

BTW, I live in Amerca. These issues might seem strange to you if you don't live in America.

My third topic is about private prisons and their contribution to America's prison industry. America has 25% of the world's prisons even though America has only 4.4% of the world's population. I realize there are many contributing factors but I wanted to focus on private prisons.

Transgender right is a hot topic right now. What made me interested in this topic is reading about India's new third gender, Hijra. They have been part of India's history and culture for a long time and believed to have special powers. They even bless heterosexual couples. This made me think of the bathroom debate about privacy and rights.

I think transgender rights would be the most interesting because you could talk about how they are perceived in different countries (kinda like you mentioned). My second choice would be racial profiling.

Do you know Jazz Jennings? She's well know in the transgender community & for transitioning quite young. She even has her own TV show called "I Am Jazz".

Go with the prison-industrial complex. It relates to racial profiling anyway. And you can examine the historical origins of the prison-industrial complex in the U.S., which goes back to the exploitation of predominantly black inmates (for their labor) who were treated worse than slaves because they were disposable, especially in the Deep South. Also, look at what kind of lobbying private prisons do and see which Congressmembers are getting that dirty money.

I was thinking of going with racial profiling and include private prison, racism and the mass incarceration of Black and Latino Americans. I feel like they're all connected and the root of the problem is racial profiling. In many cases of police brutality, it starts with the officer racially profiling the victim. Stopping them because they look "suspicious" or their nose is "flat" etc
