I've been thinking that there is a musical space in kpop that fromis_9 could fill. Namely, in terms of sound/concept, that resembling something like 2010-12 Kara, T-ara, and Girls' Generation.

Right now the division seems to be cute/girly, swag, and some sexy. This leaves a space for a more mature sound that that doesn't try to be super swag or super sensual.

I'm thinking of songs like T-ara's "Sexy Love," Kara's "Step It Up" & "Pandora," and Girls' Generation "Hoot" (and I guess "The Boys.")

Obviously, it would have to be updated for current trends in music-making, but I think this "space" is under-served.

They wouldn't have to do it right away, but work their way there... anyway, just some thoughts...

I can absolutely see fromis doing this type of concept you're describing in a few years. They seem interested in experimenting and  trying different concepts too. (plus, with IZ we can see OTR is open to mature and elegant)

I feel right now fromis might stick with their bubbly-colorful-fun concept. In a recent interview they mention it. They will probably push this concept in Japan for a few albums too, in my opinion.

Jisun: That’s true. I think that from ‘LOVE BOMB’, our colors have started to clearly show. Since ‘FUN!’ was released in summer, it’s a song that combines both fromis_9’s attributes and summer’s traits. Like the title, I think the concept of, “Let’s have fun with everyone!” is clearly represented and this it’s becomes a lively song.

Jiwon: Before that, we had a gentle image but through ‘LOVE BOMB’, a lively concept was manifested, making us able to show a different color of us. It became an opportunity for people to learn more about our various charms.

Chaeyoung: Until then, our make-up was pure and had a soft feeling to it but for ‘LOVE BOMB’, we had a more glittering make-up. We changed our hair color did bobbed-hair and our outfits were more popping. I’m glad that fromis_9 is now known as the group that has a lot of charms as if we’re jumping with energy.

Jiheon: It’s often said that fromis_9 is nice people with nine colors but through ‘FUN!’ and ‘LOVE BOMB!’ we were able to continue a bright concept, so going forward I want to work had towards hosing different concepts!

Yup, makes sense. I really like Love Bomb.

In the meantime, I think they're in a "space" between Rough/Fingertip-era Gfriend and Secret/I Wish era-Cosmic Girls, and I think they're closer to a signature sound within that space than many may realize. 22nd Century Girl, Love Rum Pum Pum, and Love Bomb, I think are indicative of a burgeoning fromis_9 sound.

I feel like OTR and maybe even fromis look up to SM GGs (RV, FX, SNSD) However fromis music do not sound like these gorups. At the moment I can't envision fromis going the route of RV and FX tile tracks. I can see them dabbing into some sounds of SNSD tho.

 

FUN was sort of a fail(?) attempt to recreate Love Bomb impact. Although it seems it had more impact in Japan compared to anywhere else. FUN isn't a terrible song, it just takes many people a long time to warm up to it. And then there are those who never will be able to.

Personally I think it would of been a good idea to release a second MV. One for Love RumPumPum. I notice many non-fans and even some Flovers seem to like it more then FUN. LRPP sort of have a disco vibe mix with something I can't quite describe, but it's addicting.

I'm really curious about the type of song they will do next. They've done back to back very upbeat pop songs. Seems they might slow the tempo just a little bit next comeback.

I can definitely see them going the SNSD direction. To me they are the true 9-member heirs, (with all due respect to other groups).

I think they have a certain "sound range" right now, they just need to fine-tune it. Like they're not as space-y as WJSN, rather more electro; and more girly(?) than gfriend, but with just as soulful voices. 

I guess one could call it electro-bubblepop, with some rockish elements (esp the earlier stuff like Glass Shoes and To Heart).

LRPP has a sick groove, I thinks that's why it's so addicting. The fanchants are always super loud during it, I've noticed. And definitely should've released an MV for it.

If they can refine the electropop sound and incorporate the rock-guitar elements from the early days, it would be awesome. 

A mid-tempo song would be good, I think, though all elements have to be stronger than uptempo songs which can be "carried" by a catchy chorus. Something like April Story or Take My Hand, by April maybe?

3-4 months, that's a long time to promote one song. 

Fromis been hinting a lot lately. They'll be doing "something" between end of this year and the first quarter of 2020. Either Korean and/or Japan related.

The calendar for December looks pretty bare. That might be indicative that they're preparing for something. I think it's going to be Japanese promotions.

IZ has usually promoted for about 1 month and 2-3 weeks. If they do comeback in January, fromis will probably be in Japan.

That would mean the earliest time for a Korean comeback would probably be around March, which would be 4 months from now; especially for those who don't, or are unable to, keep up with Japanese activities.

Jisun: Instead of a word that left an impression, the phrase that stuck in my head is the introduction of our song

Saerom: Jisun is really good at saying the introduction of our song!

Jisun: At the beginning, I was quite nervous, and I didn’t really remember it properly but through practicing it over and over again, it just rolls of my tongue easily like it’s a catchphrase.

 

This slip up, shows they've recorded Japanese songs. So we know they have the material. By now they could have filmed a MV and concept photos too. The rest of December could be the final edits.

Now it's up to OTR to release it.

I think fromis might promote in Japan in Jan-Feb; which is why I posit that a Korean comeback would probably happen until March (maybe Apr) at the earliest.
