This whole PD/Mnet/CJ thing has shown how so many people are full of it.

They were so quick to pile on fromis, but when the investigations started to show the extent of manipulation in the formation of the PD groups, it was suddenly, "hate the company, support the group."

Then they lost their minds with the rumors of possible dissolution of the current PD groups. This left me puzzled. They want to keep giving money to the company that caused the mess in the first place? Really? The guys and girls make almost nothing from album sales. They have agencies they can go back to and be successful in. And they are temp groups. It seems people just pose performative demands, "give us 'justice' so long as it costs us nothing, and especially not our entertainment".

Now, the situation is more complicated with fromis_9, since they are a permanent group. It's not like some company will come in and buy them out. If people want to be fair, or at least consistent, they should support fromis_9, then.

KStyle Interview (191113)

-Through the occasions of coming to Japan for “MAMA” & “KCON”, what expertise has left an impression?

Jiwon: The first time we came to Japan was for MAMA. Since it was the first time perfuming on stage overseas, it was quite nerve-racking, but I remember it being fun as well.

Nagyung: Mine is also a performance. In particular at KCON, besides our own songs, we were able to do a cover stage so that’s definitely a memory I won’t forget.

Chaeyoung: At the promotion events, I was moved by all the fans who tried to communicate with us with the same feel. Seeing the fans doing their best trying to express their feelings whilst reading the Korean they wrote in their palms beforehand made me really think, “that they really love me and support me”

Saerom: when we go to Japan, it feels as if we are always being congratulated, this time being our 1st year anniversary! For KCON, people congratulated us on our 100th day of being fromis_9. Someone gave me a plushie as present. I’m always moved.

Jiheon: when we meet out Japanese fans, I remind myself, “I should do my best in learning Japanese!” this time around, I was able to learn more than usual! Due to that, compared to the first time we came to Japan, I am more capable in communicating in Japanese, which make me happy.

Hayoung: for me, the difference between the Japanese words, “kawaii (cute) and “kowai (scary)” us quite difficult. One time, I mistake them and said the worn one. When I met a fan, I tired to say they were cute, but I accidentally called them scary. I am worried about how they feel now…

Chaeyoungl it’s fine~. At that time, I was next to Hayoung and corrected her saying “You mean cute, right?” the fan seeing Hayoung’s worried expression smiled whilst saying, “It’s okay! It’s okay!” the fan probably thought your worried expression was cute

Hayoung: I get confuse with “kawaii (cute)”, “kowai (scary)” and “kakkoii (cool)” (LOL)

Jisun: This January, we met Furuya-san for the first time. In May, we greeted him during the interval between the KCON stage. This time, we met Furuya-san on a radio program. He listed to our newly released sons and we had a fun conversation. He always supports us warmly. It was the first time we did a live broadcast in japan but thanks to him, we were able to do it without feeling nervous.

-There was an event for your 1st single, “FUN FACTORY”, what did you talk about with the fans?

Seoyeon: within the Japanese fans, there were also Korean fans who came to support us I’m so glad to have another interaction with them all the way in japan, I too Japanese lessons so compared to last time, I had more confidence in conversating in Japanese, with ease, I said things like, “I wanted to meet you!”, “What did you eat today?” and “Please recommend me something yummy to eat!”.

Nagyung: a lot of people came and said, “I want you girls to debut in japan as soon as possible.” I will work hard in order to realize this dream

Jiheon: It’s been a long time since we met our Japanese fans so I said things along the lines of “I missed you so much!” and “Let’s meet as soon as possible next time!”.

Jisun: Since we don’t come to Japan often, there is a lot of fan that say, “Thank you for coming”. Making me say, “Same her, thanks!”

Chaeyoung: Compared to last time, I studied a lot more Japanese this time…is what I though…but in the moment, my mind went completely blank. Even the words I understood when studying, hearing it in person, they spoke so fast, even the pronunciation of words were different, so I panicked. (LOL) I thought I had to study even more and more in preparation for the next time we come. I want to talk about a lot of things with our fans.

Saerom: I’m the same with everyone. We haven’t had the opportunity to show off a stage in Japan so there was a lot of fans who said, “I want you to do a concert as soon as possible.” Of course, I have the same feelings.

-How do you study Japanese?

Chaeyoung: We have Japanese teacher and take lessons since we have so many members, we spit in two teams.

-What recently Japanese word left an impression on you?

Nagyung: Be careful!

Jiheon: “Oi~ oi oi” in a sad tone. The pronunciation of it is really cute so I like it!

Seoyeon: When thinking about what to say at the signing event, I remember saying, “Are you tired carrying?”

Saerom: The pronunciation of the cute, “IYOIYO (FINALLY)” (LOL). “SHNKAN (MOMENT)” also has a cute ring to it

Chaeyoung: When studying I try to learn the antonym of the word along with it. For example, when I learnt, “SUZUSHII (Cool)”, I learnt, “ATSUI (Hot)” or “KURERU (Give you)” and “AGEU (Give me)”. If I do it this way, I think it’s quite easy to remember.

Jisun: Instead of a word that left an impression, the phrase that stuck in my head is the introduction of our song

Saerom: Jisun is really good at saying the introduction of our song!

Jisun: At the beginning, I was quite nervous, and I didn’t really remember it properly but through practicing it over and over again, it just rolls of my tongue easily like it’s a catchphrase.

-With ‘FUN FACTOY’ title track ‘fun!’ addictive and high lyrics and sounds, it makes people happy but what do you feel?

Chaeyoung: FUN! is a song that conveys a fun mood, so I think it’s important for us to have fun. On stage, when the fans scream, “more! More!”, we have to raise the tension and have fun

Jiheon: To show a better dance and better performance should be the result of our hard work during practice. The choreography had many adjustments so there are many times we were confused about which parts were the previous or new versions. Even within one month, even though we had an all-night practice of preparing, when we stood on stage, I was nervous so on the first week, made a mistake.

Nagyung: You made a mistake?

Jiheon: But it was only during rehearsal! In the real thing, I don’t make a mistake!

-You also promoted with ‘LOVE RUMPUMPUM’ but overall, what is your fondest memory?

Jisun: “LOVE RUMPUMPUM” was supposed to be performed as a unit song but in the end, all members got to perform it. The song is retro so it’s quite fun to pick out the outfits and accessories to fit the theme o the song. Also, at music shows, I’ve seen other artists and staff members hum either, “FUN!” or “LOVE RUMPUMPUM”, which make me happy! It makes me think, “Do they like our song?” (LOL)

Chaeyoung: When we went to do stage performance outside of Seoul, I remember it being so hot. For “DKDK”, ‘SURI SURI MASURIYA’ part, we have to face the ground for the choreography and I remember seeing everyone’s sweat run from their face to the floor. It was like we were at a water park. (LOL) But even so, seeing everyone doing their best dancing was lovely. (LOL)

Jiwon: When we performed outside of Seoul, it was the end of our promotions so in terms of my feelings, instead of feeling composed, I felt kind of free. During it, we hung out at where we were staying, and it felt like a school field trip, which was fun.

-It was FUN to parody Ion Drinks, Cup Ramen, Shampoo and more in our music video. There was a lot of comical scenes but please tell us about a story during shooting.

Gyuri: There is a scene where we play the violin without hair but even when we had to be serious and play with enthusiasm…Seeing Hayoung laughing in front of me created so many NG scenes. (LOL)

Seoyeon: I had to do a parody of a CM for sportswear by doing boxing. The director suddenly gave me boxing gloves and told me to watch some boxing video for some practice but I don’t know much about boxing since I haven’t watched much of it so I shot it in doubt thinking, “With this, will this scene be portrayed well?” the director said, “It’s okay, the scene was filmed smoothly so have confidence!” so I did my best whilst thinking, “Right now, I’m a boxer!” (LOL). When I watched the mv, the close-up shots were edited so well so I’m glad.

If we appear in a CM? Cosmetics, food, whatever it is, we have confidence!

-If you wee to do a CM, what item do you want to CM for?

Saerom: No matter what CM it is, I’d want to do it! I have confidence! For me, it was fun to do a parody for beauty cosmetics items in our music video, so I’d like to try do a cosmetic CM.

Chaeyoung: If everyone is participating, then I think we can pull off a sport drink CM.

Gyuri: Since everybody eats a lot and we love food, I think a CM about food would be good. For example, chicken or pizza.

ALL: That would be great~ (LOL)

-From ‘LOVE BOMB’ & ‘FUN!’, fromis_9’s team colors have been clearly symbolized, what do you think yourselves?

Jisun: That’s true. I think that from ‘LOVE BOMB’, our colors have started to clearly show. Since ‘FUN!’ was released in summer, it’s a song that combines both fromis_9’s attributes and summer’s traits. Like the title, I think the concept of, “Let’s have fun with everyone!” is clearly represented and this it’s becomes a lively song.

Jiwon: Before that, we had a gentle image but through ‘LOVE BOMB’, a lively concept was manifested, making us able to show a different color of us. It became an opportunity for people to learn more about our various charms.

Chaeyoung: Until then, our make-up was pure and had a soft feeling to it but for ‘LOVE BOMB’, we had a more glittering make-up. We changed our hair color did bobbed-hair and our outfits were more popping. I’m glad that fromis_9 is now known as the group that has a lot of charms as if we’re jumping with energy.

Jiheon: It’s often said that fromis_0 is nice people with nine colors but through ‘FUN!’ and ‘LOVE BOMB!’ we were able to continue a bright concept, so going forward I want to work had towards hosing different concepts!

-In ‘FUN FACTORY’ there is track that Hayoung and Jiwon composed, ‘FLY HIGH’. Please tell us how that song came to be.

Jiwon: Firstly, we got a beat and it’s a song we made after discussing about “what type of song should it be?” When we were recording the song, Hayoung would sing first followed by me. This is how we created the song.

Hayoung: That’s why, the parts I sing is the part I made!

-To the other members, what do you fell when you listen to ‘FLY HIGH’?

Seoyeon: When I listened to the guide, I thought, “This song is going to be a success”.

Chaeyoung: Seoyeon was very curious about it.

Seoyeon: Yes. So that’s why when it was at the stage off when it wasn’t completed yet, I wanted to listen to it so badly that I rushed them saying, “If you don’t give me the instrumental.” I’m the type to listen to a song that I’m interested in over and over again for two months, but I was so into “FLY HIGH”, I listened to it before I went to sleep and whilst we traveled.

Jisun: As a result of seeing the process of making the song up-close, when I listened to the completed version, I was so moved. I thought, “I want for many people to listen to this song”. Going forward, I want these two to continue to make songs and it’ll be great if a lot of people would listen to it.

Jiheon: Even if you listen to this song objectively, don’t you think it’s a great song? Even when I walk to school, I listen to this song. It’s a song that gives you strength. To everyone, I want you to be soothed by listening to this song no matter where you go or during a drive.

Nagyung: Hayoung usually compose songs but since it’s a song that’s actually part of our discography, it has a different feel to it. Up till now, it was too bad that Hayoung didn’t get the opportunity to display her sense to everyone but I’m glad that through ‘FLY HIGH’, it offered Hayoung’s and Jiwon’s colors. Going forward, I want that other members to display their colors, not only them two.

Saerom: I like writing so it’s necessary for me to write in my diary When I’m really moved or experience a new feeling, I always convey it in my diary. One day, I want to write my own lyrics in one of our songs.
