[Discussion] Why do some trainees join unknown, poor companies in the first place?

I wonder why.

Factors possible that I can think of (I know nothing about this industry so):

-nice contract

-CEO begged, told them he/she has a 'great vision' whatever

-bigger companies sent rejected companies to these companies

-they know someone from the company

-they are a fan of an artist from that company

-they are desperate to enter any company

-they suck so got rejected from so many companies (or companies were blind like JYP to IU and Choa)

-company is rich despite new and small bc someone rich and wealthy is behind it.

-promise to debut asap/release album asap

-showered them with praises, make them feel like they are talented and valued

-they like the company's music style

-company promises musical freedom to them

-related to big glamorous companies through joint contract with some big group, or subsidiaries, etc.

-a famous celeb/music producer was scouting

-have that one very famous celebrity in that company who is like, an actress

-had a famous group from the 1990s...

Think Produce 101...Why are there good trainees with a company that is nugu and doesn't have a wikipedia page (eg. Woo Jinyoung the A-rank rapper)? And why would Park jihoon sign Maroo when he had been a trainee in SM and Fantagio? (There are so many other companies better or more known than Maroo that he could've tried...) Why did Yongguk, who have visuals+singing skills, join some unknown Choon Entertainment (bc of kittens in their dorms? really.)?  You know...these kinds of situations.

Please discuss and give some examples too, if you have!

Because if you join a company from the Big 3 your place in a group isn't guaranteed whilst your chances of actually debuting diminish bc chances are there are far more talented trainees in the Big 3.

Joining a nugu company ensures you at least get to debut/debut earlier than you normally would.

With so many people in South Korea aspiring to become idols, it's super competitive and almost impossible to join a well-known agency. Many people are so desperate to become idols that they feel if joining a small company even gives them the slightest chance to succeed as a singer, it is worth taking the opportunity.

The main reason I can think of is because they got rejected by the bigger ones, but that doesn't mean they suck... smh.

Another reason could be a better workplace? Even if your chances to become popular are less, just being comfortable and receiving a good treatment may be enough for some.

Maroo isn't that bad. They got Kim Jong Kook. Compared to agencies that has no established artiste. At least, it's a legitimate agency.

It's hard to join an agency and debut. Agencies are investing heavily in them, a lot $ is involved so it isn't that easy.

There are groups from smaller agencies hitting big so not like it's definitely a failure if you join a small agency.

i'm sure most of them tried first bigger companies but were rejected! even if you got to become a trainee there's no guarantee that they will keep you, smaller companies have less trainees and they are less competitive so your chances of debuting once you join them are really high, other might have got an offer from a small company and accepted right away

Isn't there also some kind of appeal in working your way to the top? Some trainees are not afraid of hard work and groups from small companies are normally praised because it seen as an admirable feat - your average person would rather not pursue being idol than take the risk. Big 3 trainees are said to be "golden spoons", essentially, they are guaranteed to be successful, which I don't agree with but ya know.

Sometimes the Big3 rejected trainees because they simply don't fit their 'image'/'ideal' no matter how talented they are. Like how it's rare for YG to accept someone like Namtae during his audition image-wise.

Most of those trainees probably has auditioned to 20+ companies, and they got accepted into one of these nugu.

Becoming a Big3 trainee while can't guarantee you will debut also play role.

You are not wrong, there are hundreds of reasons

You know the one that shocked me the most was Jinho from pentagon, he even already released a song under SM, but then he leave, even though Cube isn't bad, but it's SM thou

Being a big 3 trainee isn't an assurance that they're the best. It's just that they usually fit the images of the company hence they are recruited (you know those concepts of having an SM/YG/JYP feel?)

Also you can be a big 3 trainee but not fit the concept of a group they plan to debut. Again, it's  never about being the best trainee but how you fit the needs.

Smaller companies would be less stringent and the odds of debuting is much higher.

you know the analogy is. it's that hard to enter harvard, columbia university, etc but in the end you enter less reputable university because still, there's a chance to succeed. not every successful person is a reputable university graduate.

Same with entering kpop agencies.

Beast's junhyung said he joined a company that has 0 connection with broadcasting channels so they cant find work for their artists, then the CEO tried to kill him.. Afaik, it's the first company he tried to join, which means he wasnt rejected by big companies and went there out of desperation, so i honestly dont understand why.. I'd like to hear interviews from jihoon and sungwoon why people like them joined nugu companies, but im pretty sure their companies wont allow them to talk abt it

^^^^ this and they see some already achieve success evendo u from a nugu company such as gfriend...so catching your dream even if u not from well know company is an achievable dream cuz gfriend, bts, and exid or even crayon pop have done it

i don't think many of them join these companies with much thoughts, they might have been street-casted

i think some trainees don't realize how bad the situation of their company is because they are fed pretty ideas lol. also some are just casted and never even thought to audition before so they don't even think of other options.

i guess there must be some that like the idea of a smaller company with less control (esp. rappers i'd assume)

Well from the group i already know (gfriend) some the members are used to go to bigger agency like sowon, yuju, and yerin. Idk how they ended up in source music but i think source music CEO has many correlations (just like yerin can appears at running man during their debut era) so thats probably why they trusted them
