Anyone here who took a K-Pop sabbatical?

Like I've mentioned so many times, I was a K-Pop fan from 2003 but left the scene around 2009 when the DB5K lawsuit happened. This is why I'm so unaware with the groups that debuted after that such as Infinite, BAP, Block B and only discovered them much later (around 2015, yeah that late - I missed the big surge of girlbands dominating)

For some reason I always kept checking out EXO (because as a DB5K fan, I always check who were the current trainees etc) so I've been watching them since their inception  but forgot about it when I left K-Pop. Before I knew it, they debuted and I really liked MAMA so stanned the music but still not K-Pop. Got really got into them as a group after EXO-M went on Happy Camp. In 2013,  OT12 Happy Camp remains one of the main reasons I went back into K-Pop full time again.

So I was out of K-Pop for 4 years which now that I think of it...is a pretty long time. I honestly thought I've 'outgrown' it at that point (and I wasn't ready to stan idols younger than me...but here I am)

Are there other users who used to be K-Pop fans then stopped? What brought you back?

I took a few years off myself. Mostly due to work and also the cancerous fanboys/fangirls.

I returned for the good music and attractive women.

I've realized the perspective of people who had a "Kpop break" are really different from those who just stayed in it. One thing that boggles me is how seriously people take K-Pop sometimes when it's supposed to be entertainment.

I left as a student and returned when I was already working (and I previously worked in marketing) and all the marketing shit K-Pop companies pull out is making me stay tbh so fascinating stuff.

I used to be a pretty delulu stan as a Cassie then I realized that "group bonds" only last with proper company management lmao

I got into kpop in 2013 but kind of took a break from it for approximately 2 years. I took a gap year after high school and went travelling so "stanning" was the last thing on my mind. I didn't really start following any groups again until last year. I find myself paying less attention to kpop these days so I might fall out of it again soon.

One of my friends is an exo-l. She took a break from the fandom after sh*t on twitter got worse. She got back into kpop and stanning exo after I showed her a picture of baekhyun (her ub) lol. That was when nct released their first song. Now she also stans nct

I was introduced to kpop in 2014 with exo and snsd by my cousin. I grew out of it in like.. 4 months, and in late september 2016 I rediscovered it through BTS-FIRE. Now I'm basically stanning a ton of groups(or a casual fan of everything)

I got into K-pop in 2011 and then stayed away for a couple of years when Jessica left SNSD. They were my ult group and she was my bias, but I was also kind of losing interest. I still downloaded SNSD's songs, but I didn't actively follow them. I came back when Jessica's solo career started. I kind of feel like I need to take another break though lol.

Mine was much shorter. I left for about a year after IU's Chat-Shire scandals and only came back when BTS released Wings. (so about a year)

Because of the timing - it was quite dramatic though. When I came back I had no idea who these Twice or GFriend groups were but now they were dominating. And BTS had grown to EXO's level. It's amazing how much things seem to change when you take some time away from K-Pop.

Also based on this thread, a lot of us took breaks when scandals erupted amongst our faves lol

You're right lolol. Honestly, the whole Jessica thing rattled me and then the witch-hunt for IU was the nail in the coffin. I needed a break lol.

And I really agree with this. A lot of the newer group stans haven't been jaded and so they're kinda delulu. It brings back my own old memories laugh.pnglaugh.pnglaugh.png
