Twice had just debuted 6 weeks before Mama, and Like Ooh-Ahh was at about 300k downloads, while Gfriend's debut was at 600k and Me Gustas Tu was over 1 million. Twice had just debuted 6 weeks before Mama, and Like Ooh-Ahh was at about 300k downloads, while Gfriend's debut was at 600k and Me Gustas Tu was over 1 million. It still baffles me, how Twice won that year tbh, but I guess voting played a big role that year It's easy, because the rookie award is not based on what a group does in 1 year, based on what the group does in their debut song/album (specially on MAMA), and the debut of Twice was better than that Gfriend. It's a bit unfair and unprofessional to have preference for a song that has 11 months against a song that only has 2 months, I think that the producers of the MAMA will have a criterion to equitable the downloads and sales of all the nominees, at least downloads in 1-2 months. In addition, I think that the debut of TWICE had more impact than Gfriend, which should be another criterion to choose the winner. Gfriend snatch almost all Best New Artist Awards, except MAMA... if Mnet using the same criteria as the others, Gfriend should have won.. maybe Mnet tends to give subjective judgement more (like user voting, judge/committee) rather than objective ones.. It really came down to voting I feel They have more potential than GF and more balance (they have a strong digital and physical number, MV view, public recognition, CF deals, a big and stable fandom despite they're rookie ).It's the best new girlgroup award not the best debut song. In the end, u can see Mnet don't make a mistake by giving Twice the best new rookie award. After one year, Twice manage to get the best girlgroup award and many daesangs award.
