So Fingertip will be GFRIENDs first song to fail to reach 1 million downloads.

Currently sitting at around 550,000 downloads but is no longer charting on Gaon or Melon.

Their past songs have had really good longevity, so for Fingertip to no longer be charting after 4 months is surprising.

So what happened here? They were trying to go for a more powerful image.

I thought Fingertip was a good song. Does Korea only like them when they have songs like Rough, Me Gusta Tu and Navillera?

I like that they're experimenting with different sounds, but I think it was too sudden for SK. They tend to like more innocent concepts, so their previous songs fit the bill perfectly. I also really love Fingertip, but as far as I can tell those types of songs don't do as well.

The 'downfall' began with Navillera so I don't think it's the concept which should be given much of the blame. I think people have placed way too high of an expectation on them without realizing that Rough was one of the few songs to do as well as it did in recent years. It got 1.9 million downloads last year and the highest downloaded song from 2015 only got 1.5 million, that says something. It isn't easy to emulate the same success of such a successful song tbh.

I personally feel that they should freely explore any concept they want to without having to think much about what the public thinks and as for the fandom, a real fan doesn't turn their back on a group just because of a change in concept

They should continue developing their sound - I know it's easy (and safer) to stick to the same formula that brought you success, but that's only going to please the public - at least until they get bored of it too. Making music that keeps fans satisfied and entices new fans to join is key. Sure the public buys the digitals, but do they buy the albums? The real money lies in physicals and touring - that's where fans matter.

I admire them for taking a risk with Fingertip even though it wasn't even that drastic of a change, but it seems like a lot Kpop groups (Apink comes to mind) get stuck in a rut and ultimately plateau.

It was good they experimental with new concept. They need to explore more colour and be versatile.

Even they are changing their concept, their 'powerful' term still remain because that was their signature and they still mantained their own sound.

They need another Rough, it's honestly the best kpop song i've heard in recent years. I feel like they shouldn't be pressured too much to attract the public by using catchy or modern tunes. A good song will always be a good song despite the trends.

it depends on what you think about "Idol". for me, idols are mostly for fans. not public oriented.

at first, it wise to choose trendy concept for newly debuted idols. and that what SouMu did for Gfriend. they did a great job to choose School-Trilogy concept with intricate choreography. with this trendy concept, they hope people/public will attracted, and that will leads to create a bigger and solid fandom. and since Gfriend's School-Trilogy is indeed successful, creating a solid fandom, Buddy. now this is what we're gonna talk about. what fandom wants. not what public wants.

so, I don't think this will be a problem. Gfriend and Source Music can do whatever they want. as musician, as artists that really care for their fans. not just business oriented as how to please public. since they already past that phase. just look at The Awakening physical sales, it's improving smile.png

for the next comeback, I hope they will continue to advance. with last title being 'The Awakening', I'm expecting continuation from this powerful-chic / girl-crush concept.

I like how GFriend experimented with a different concept because it showed that they were than just an innocent girl group. I hope that they do continue trying different things later on and not worry too much about the public's opinion on them. Fingertip doesn't really sound too different from their previous songs in my opinion.

Fingertip is really catchy and the concept is pretty cool, though it's not my favourite title track by them. I love everything from glass bead to navillera. But they shouldn't have to divert back to their original concept/sound. The change is good and it might just take some time for the public to appeal to it.

What I hate is the trend of just using catchy words that does not have meaning at all to the song and incorporating it into their song and them producers praying it becomes viral.

Kpop fans seems to not like double title tracks but I quite like it in some comebacks. Maybe do it once in a while. Not like YG who does it everytime LOL.

I think double title track is good for Gfriend, one song that can be experimental and another song that is "safe".

Obviously,if they want more money they should. It depends if the company has learned or not. For example,Apink went for a more mature concept and different sound with Only One and they under performed, but came back with a youthful concept now and they actually performed much better than only one,if not as strong as let's say Mr. Chu. They could get the wins that they didn't with last comeback, the song's likes on MelOn is lit and so on.

Now,people asked over and over for Gfriend to go with a girl crush concept, and they did it but well, public didn't like it. It's not that public doesn't like girl crush concept, but Gfriend suit the image of "bunch of adorable girls" way more. On the other hand Mamamoo can be on top with their own girl crush concept. I don't know why I-fans act in a way that femininity is imperfection or GF needed to go for a girl crush concept to be perfect. (Not only GF but all cute ggs) but they should get to learn that their bias is an idol, being an idol is their job and money is way more important than concept or this type of childish things to them.

Gfriend didn't top the charts and didn't win on major music shows,it hurt their brand name. They have less CF calls compared to last year after releasing rough, they would get paid less in events due to their hurt brand name and so on. Their physical sales were reached thanks to 20 fansigns, now LOL reached almost same amount with less fansigns. So they basically didn't even improve in physical sales.

Your bias' brand name is hurt and and they are making less money than before, the members and agency can be very unhappy now. You should learn to whine less for things like concept,if you are a fan,you can enjoy them being bunch of adorable girls too. Because most GF members aren't even girl crush material, they ARE bunch of cute little girls. Why let them pretend to be something they aren't and make less money at the same time.
