Jungkook was seen as an alien to Yeri's family.

Yeri is the oldest of four girls. When you are the oldest, you are innately stoic and discreet-- not to mention that you will naturally shoulder the responsibility of caretaker for all your siblings. Also, you are always in need of time-- time to be left alone, mostly. And living in a house of females for that period of time, you tend to develop a penchant to express your feelings and opinions in the most direct manner possible in order to get that time. So when she'd started spending most of her time with Jungkook, at first she was hesitant about expressing what she thought of him and his behavior to him personally. She did not want him to know that she was prudent and conscience-bound; she did not want to affirm the stereotype of the oldest one in the family in front of him. Also, she was taken aback about experiencing the everyday going-ons of a male, especially one who had just left the raging pubescent stage of his life.

Yeri was a dominating, difficult, and intolerable female to her three younger siblings-- even to the one sister who was just a year younger. Yeri was the hard-headed, tough taskmaster. She always knew how to get things done, understood the workings of power and being older. With that being said, life must not be easy for Yeri then. She always uttered her favorite phrase at the time, "I can't take it any longer." She would deliberately say this in front of her parents so she can get away and make time for Jungkook.

Tradition, that was all the Kims thought about. They were so involved with the past that the present was not real-seeming. If you could couched some phrase in a way that harked back to the House of Yi, then they loved you...because they love history. They would spend hours talking about Korean history to their four daughters. So when they found out about Jungkook from a friend of Yeri, they saw him as only an object of present, one that was infringing on the sanctity of their family, and a deviation from Yeri's destiny to be something valuable to their lineage. Jungkook was so steeped in the present to them because he was boy in a man's body; in other words, he was an alien to them, even to the younger girls.

There was one night when Yeri's parents finally allowed Yeri to have Jungkook over. That night, after dinner, they all gathered in the living room and all the family were praying. Yeri and Jungkook on one side, Yeri's parents on the other side; the younger girls at the back of them. Mr. Kim read from the prayer book and they all repeated his prayer, except for Jungkook. Yeri's mom would look at Jungkook with this disconcerting face, but light-heartedly, as if coaxing him to join in. To appease the mom, Jungkook would begin to just mumble unintelligibles or just move his mouth as if he was saying the prayers. Jungkook was a terribly excitable young fellow, but he was very delicate when he was around Yeri.
