why have no Kpop groups dominated charts this year/slates like previous years ???

lots of groups have done well or been successful, like Knock Knock, Rookie, etc all did relatively well but were not breakout hits with big impact

now Mamamoo and BP seemed to have stepped up the game, but soon were dethroned by Heize and fell to 3rd and 4th place before they had the chance to become true hit songs

last year there were many hit songs: CU and Rough were the huge hits of the year, Whistle, You're the Best, Pick Me, Winner's song all reached #1 on charts for a good amount of time and left impact (Pick Me was never #1 but had obvious cultural impact).

This year it seems as if all Kpop acts have done well but none besides GD have truly done "amazing" in the sense of huge impact and sales. Even IU performed a bit less than precious hit songs of hers although she still did well. GFriend fell off the radar, RV hasn't grown and it seems as if only MAMAMOO has a chance of fighting this trend. Even so, it seems MAMAMOO has been cockblocked by Heize.

The artists with the most notable impact this year are artists like Heize, Suran, etc

Even Taeyeon, IU and Eunji did not live up to their past success (IU as always will end up with remarkable sales but it's still not the level as her previous releases; Taeyeon and Eunji haven't come close at all to reliving the success of their debut).

It seems that soloists (not idol soloists like Taeyeon, Minzh, Eunji, etc) have been doing better and better while groups have been doing worse than last year, not to mention an overall drop in quality.

Why is this?

Which year was worse, 2014, 2016 or this year so far?

There is half of the year left to turn things around...

The songs just weren't that good so far. Also for girl group standards most girl groups are doing worst this year but it's the opposite for boy groups.

. Yeah, I was mostly referring to girl groups even tho the question didn't specify

Boy groups are doing better so far but girl groups....

Though I think some of your points are faulty this trend is natural. People are doing well. The only one I'd say comes close to doing amazing is Heize but she's been on the rise for some time and has been doing better with every release

that's what I said tho: "people are doing well but no one is dominating."

2015: Dumb Dumb, Taeyeon's I, IU 23, SNSD Party, Ice Cream Cake, Um Oh Ah Yeah, etc

2016: Rough, Cheer Up, TT, Whistle, You're the Best, Pick Me, etc

2017: ?????? Like....maybe "Yes I Am"

If your considering Party a big hit then songs like Rookie and Knock Knock should be counted in 2017s since they did even better

Acts like GD, IU, Bolbbalgan4, etc are way bigger digitally a kpop group on average

Just because a song doesn't have 100 PAKs, it doesn't mean it has no chance to become a hit song

Whistle had PAKs but PWF seems to be a bigger hit already

How do you know that Mamamoo and BP will not have good sales when both have probably sold more already than during the first week of their last comeback?

Sans these points I think the songs that were released by digitally strong groups might not have fit the taste of the Korean GP so they aren't streaming them much therefore it resulted in no PAKs.

P.S. I'd rather have PWF's longevity and sales than Whistle's PAKs anytime

PWF's longevity means that people still listen to it even after 8 months (it's still in top 50 on Melon)

that's not only happenning in Kpop but in popular music in general, tbh (except for Despacito). Idk why, tho but maybe the public is just.......... bored?

Back to topic, in Kpop, I can only name a few hits for this year: Really Really, Signal, Palette, Plz Don't Be Sad, Wine, Beautiful (Goblin OST)....
