Not only that, but why is Exo now known as the new DBSK in terms of sasaeng fans? What drove so many people to decide to send blood letters to them and not any other boy group? Again I am not trying to start a fanwar I'm honestly just curious because they did sell 1mil records and they've only been around since 2012. I heard one member got a teddy bear with a video camera in it and they took the bear back with them. And Tao had a sasaeng break into his place and see him in the shower and kiss him. They've pretty much had the same sense debut, there may have been an influx during wolf, but only slight. I don't know for sure though, they really don't keep statistics on sasaengs. From what I understand in Korea is kids there have no outside hobbies unless it's towards a career or to get a college scholarship etc. So, what else are you going to do but have Kpop and boys? But after I became a Luhan fan, I realized that they got those type of people before debut plus ELFs/SHAWols/Cassies jumped ship. That makes their case 3 times worse than just any one of the fandoms I listed. Plus the public liked growl and the fans loves their faces. I can understand their popularity now but it's not new that a BIG 3 group shot up to fame super fast in a 2 year period. BB/WG/Miss A/SNSD/DBSK all got super successful within 2 years of their debut. And so they searched them up, noticed how incredibly good looking they were and got hungry. Either that or people just became a huge fan and eventually turned delulu. There wasn't any other group that needed stalking 24/7 so when they came around, all the crazies went to them. Sasaengs needed new fresh meat. Fresh faces meant a nice window of attention from young students in middle school, high school, college, etc. How is One Direction so popular? Because they catered to and managed to capture that wide and loud demographic. Just like how they got exposure from X Factor, Exo was vehemently endorsed by SM. (Like other users have said, the fact that there's a lot of members broadens this window even more, Super Junior has a large fandom for that reason). Now when you have a large amount of young people together, the sasaeng minority may grow in size, but it could be possible that they are proportionally the same amount as other groups. Also, you shouldn't overlook the idea that SM willingly allows several articles about sasaengs published to the media because it helps sensationalize EXO, so they may not be as much of a sasaeng magnet compared to any other celebs Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It was really interesting to many and they enjoyed getting teased for weeks before they finally debuted. So that is where being from SME really helped them. You also have to take into account that SME's other boy groups were off doing other shit by then. The fans of these boy groups were more than likely thirsty for a new group to stan and SME was off to a great start in grabbing their interest. SME promoted them as an attractive group of talented men (teasers showed off their skills and whatnot) and it caught the attention of fans everywhere. SME really marketed them, at times, like a product... a gleaming, shiny new product that you felt like you just had to get your hands on. I also feel like EXO debuted at a pivotal time, honestly... The 2nd generation groups were getting older and exploring different stuff (promoting in other countries, constantly touring, individual activities, etc). And I can't help but think that they arrived at a time in which the door for a new boy group was opening up. Luck was really on their side. They're a bit of an enigma and I can't fully wrap my head around the immense success they had in so little time. It's all just fucking nuts man.
