On a scale of one to ten, how uncool do you feel now?

landscape-1498577676-1498498887-gettyimaTwenty years ago when Hanson were only kids (Isaac, 16; Taylor, 13; Zac, 11), they released their debut album Middle Of Nowhere. And on that album, which sold 10 million copies worldwide, was the lead single you forever bop to — MMMBop.

Ever since, the pop-rock trio has, well, grown up. Now in their thirties, the brothers are married with kids – 12 among the three of them – have sold over 16 million albums and even founded their own beer company (cleverly named MMMHops).

They've jumped from record label to record label, then went independent back in 2003, but for two decades have never lost their iconic sound.

But what will come as a shock to most of you, is the band just revealed that, contrary to popular belief, there are no "wops", in MMMBop. None.

Wait... what?!

"Too many people put a 'wop' in there," Zac Hanson said on Australia's Kyle and Jackie O Show. "What happens is people go to sing that song, and they start making it up as if it's nonsense. But it's actually a repetitive part." Oh.

Hanson then did what they do best: they

.

"Mmmbop, ba duba dop/ Ba du bop, ba duba dop/ Ba du bop, ba duba dop/ Ba du, yeah/ Mmmbop, ba duba dop/ Ba du bop, ba du dop/ Ba du bop, ba du dop/ Ba du, yeah..."

The brothers also revealed that MMMBop was inspired by the doo-wop street performers they'd listen to as kids. Originally, the song appeared on the band's 1996 demo album by the same name, but was reworked into the more upbeat tune released a year later — the one we still sing along to today.

The youngest Hanson explained on-air that MMMBop actually signifies a time frame — an instant. "The whole song is about the fact that almost everything in your life will come and go very quickly," he said. "You've got to figure out what matters and grab on to those things."

The lyrics state that "in an MMMBop they're gone", but for over a quarter of a century the band hasn't gone anywhere – they remained intact.
