HK tycoon wife runs full-page ad for actor Kim Soo-hyun

In an apparent show of support for Korean actor Kim Soo-hyun, a fan alleged to be a rich Chinese woman ran a full-page ad for the heartthrob in the May 26 edition of a Korean daily newspaper.

 

“Dear Soo-hyun, love and support you forever! I wish Soo-hyun get awards on the 50th Baeksang Arts Awards. Cecilia,†read the ad, written both in Korean and English. The advertiser did not disclose who Cecilia was, but Yonhap reported that she is said to be the wife of a Hong Kong business tycoon.

 

The ad was published in the run-up to the 50th Baeksang Art Awards, slated to be held on Tuesday in Seoul. The 27-year-old sensation was nominated for four acting categories -- Best TV Actor, Popular TV Actor, Rookie Film Actor and Popular Film Actor -- with his film “Secretly Greatly†and drama “My Love from the Star.â€

 

“Cecilia wanted to run the ad to give strength to Kim Soo-hyun,†an official from the Chosun Ilbo newspaper was quoted as saying.

 

From time to time, fans have collectively posted newspaper ads to show their support and love for stars, but this is the first time an individual has placed a full-page ad. The ad allegedly cost around 40 million won ($39,000).

 

“As I know, a Chinese fan posted the ad. Even for us, it is amazing to see (what she did for Kim),†Kim’s management agency KeyEast said.

 

Kim has enjoyed explosive popularity in Asia with the success of “My Love from the Star,†in which he played an alien who arrives in Korea by traveling through time from hundreds of years ago and falls in love with a modern-day actress, played by Jun Ji-hyun.

'My Love from the Stars' is great and unique for a modern drama indeed, I enjoyed watching it because the plot has twists and it absolutely stands out from the rest.

 

However, I think 'Empress Ki' surpasses every standard 'My Love' had set. Strictly speaking KSH's drama is a typical love story, only with a few unique tweaks which allow the drama to outshine the others. With 'Empress Ki' the plot is rich, the content is interesting and depicts an interesting interpretation based on Chinese history. The cast is perfect; every actor fully embodies how their character should react and feel, especially the Emperor of Yuan because the audience could see his transformation from a baby chick to a fully-matured adult through emotional pains, abandonment and constant betrayal. This drama deserves to be appreciated as much as 'My Love from the Stars' if not more.

 

Empress Kind is awesome, too. But it wasn't nominated. Maybe next year ???

Anyways there might be a chance that KSH will win the best TV actor award since Joo won and Yoo Ah In aren't attending the ceremony. It's only the battle between him ,Lee Jong Suk and Jo Jae Hyun .Well who knows

Is it weird that I find it kind of skeevy..... especially as its from the wife of a rich tycoon

maybe because the habit of buying ads etc. for celebs is not common in the west.

 

 

 

I understand what you mean; but for a foreigner like myself, when I compare it to other K or Asian drama's that I have seen it's basically a masterpiece I think it has all the elements of a great soap opera; comedy, drama, romance + thriller. You can't you compare it to serious dramas (like Secret Love Affair) as they are different genre's.

 

Curious to know what drama are you hoping to win the best drama award?

They are all good, but I still choose YWCFTS. Out of those dramas,it caused the most buzz. Also,I was the most impressed w/ that show.Maybe I am biased haha

I started watching ep.1 of Empress Ki, but I got put off by the love triangle in the first 10mins so gave up (I've had enough of those) Also I heard that it gets a little too cray cray in the middle to end episodes.

 

Should I watch it? It's about 50 episodes so I don't want to invest my time into it if it's just going to stretch out and over kill the love triangle for the majority of the drama or if they characters become too cartoonish.

 

 

 

 

I've only watched YWCFTS and SLA from that list - my vote goes to YWCFTS. I love my serious drama's but they can get a bit too heavy at times. Something like YWCFTS finds the right balance it my opinion and doesnt take it self too seriously.

Since Secret Garden, I was barely hooked into any rom-com dramas,then YWCFTS came out and changed my mind. It was so freshing and had everything a rom-com should be.Empress Kind is good,but it looks like it wasn't as famous as YWCFTS in Korea. Historical dramas tend to be liked by everyone from young to old pp there though.

If KSH doesn't win, I'd be gobsmacked. His reputation rings louder than any of the others.

 

 

Isn't 'Reply 1994' old??? I heard this drama a few years ago, why is it nominated here? Aren't only this year's dramas allowed to be nominated for Baeksaeng? And yes, thank goodness 'Heirs' isn't on the list!

 

 

 

I honestly think it's worth a try. 'Empress Ki' doesn't have a Love Triangle in the first episode though, it only surfaces in third or fourth ep. And it won't be a Triangle either; how about Love Square Three men ♥ 1 woman? The ending wasn't what I had wanted, but it only strengthens the drama and renders how utterly unforgettable are the female lead and the epic storyline.

 

A nugu senior won the best TV actor award :(.Oh well,he was nominated for 4 categories and won 3.it isn't bad actually,the most out of everyone. 4 is too much to ask for.Just stay optimistic lol.i really think bc he has too many awards this year they can't simply give him everything )).

According to fans present after a group photo he walked off and was pulled back to the centre for individual shots. In the end there was another group photo and he pulled Song Kang Ho ( best actor) to his front and he retreated one row back and ended up retreating so far back that the cameras can’t capture him properly. So he shifted to the right and cos he was snuck at the corner, he had no choice but to stick his head in order to be captured. Sigh. Boy, your consideration and respect for your seniors and fellow members is very admirable. But you are breaking my heart
