He was also the guy who recruited a lot of the current PD101 male trainees you know now to the show before he moved to YG in April and handed over the show to the PD beloved by all Broduce fans Ahn Jun Young which gave birth to memes like this

Anyway here's Han Dong Chul PD-nim, the brainchild of Produce 101 and creating another survival show that will play around with the hopes and dreams of 30 kids but people will still watch anyway

"Female or male, people will watch it if the program has a good, strong format. It’s a matter of quality. I’m not sure how to say this, but the reason why I first created the female version is because I wanted to make healthy pornography for guys. Even though the contestants just seem like a younger sister or niece, aren’t they adorable? I wanted to create a type of porn that gives you that feeling, and the male version will also serve as that type of porn for female viewers. I once heard that Rain’s performance was like porn for girls. The male version of ‘Produce 101’ aims to fill in that fantasy, and if it’s entertaining enough then male viewers will watch it too.†-Han Dong Chul PD

I wonder if he will think of that show as healthy porn too.

He wanted to exploit male dominance/violence for season 2. Since he left that didn't happen, but I bet he'll try to exploit it for the YG show.

Considering what Lee Insoo said about the pd101 camps (a lot of boys were actually fighting behind the scenes) I'm not surprised 0u0plz.png

But ffs mess

Han PD is such a creep for saying that but he is honestly better skill-wise in storytelling and capturing personalities than Ahn PD. When Ahn PD gives the MNet push to certain people, it's so blatantly obvious but Han PD knows how to make it subtle and effective laugh.png laugh.png laugh.png

I honestly ended up unstanning some of my early bets because the MNet favoritism was so blatant and obvious in them, and some of their rises were even at the expense of the ruined reputation of someone else (I don't mind rivalries, but there's a lot of guys who are painted as "victims"/"bad guys") or another trainee being used as a 'tool' to push some contenders.

It's not their fault it ended up that way, but the whole obvious editing made me even doubt even my own faves so after that I just ended judging the guys by their stages instead of their personalities. Some of my bets just became the very living reminder of how cruel the show this season can be so while it's not their fault, I associate those experiences with them.

I think this was where S1 PD was good at - Sohye rised without ruining someone else's image, as a matter of fact, her rise was beneficial to Sejeong lmao. They uplifted each other, and that was a very rare case this season lol.

completely agree with your point about season 2. The most i hated in season 2...mnet don't know how to promote talented trainee like season 1 did and result many talented trainees eliminated before react Top 35 wthplz.png

A lot of my faves (the ones I didn't unstan lol) actually made it to top 11 so I'm glad they did.

But while my ult bias is Tiptoe, I never imagined him as Top 11 anyway so his elimination was ok to me (though I'd rather he at least did concept evals) but I honestly felt robbed of Jung Jung, Justin, Hoesung, Heeseok, Hwanwoong and Woo Jinyoung. I honestly wanted to see more of their stages and I feel they actually have that star factor. I think this was very evident in Jinyoung and Hoesung who kept rising ranking-wise even without the MNet push.

TBH the reality was in S1, a lot of the girls didn't have the star factor of the girls who made the final IOI cut. A few outliers here and there, but you could tell the Top 11 girls were in a different league than them frankly. While this season, too many gems were looked over (not just talent-wise, even triple-threat visuals like Heeseok, Yoon Yongbin and Kwon Hyeop) just for the blatant favorable edits for some people. Ahn PD was always hungry for drama and promotion of his faves (even to the point he had to make fake narratives) but he didn't have the intuition Han PD did on balancing that shit. Even the awful edits of S1 were actually attributed to Ahn PD iirc, and not Han PD lmao.
