Why doesn't ASTRO's popularity translate to international fans?

Tbh among my korean friends, they seem to be getting really popular in Korea to the point that they can name Astro members but not really NCT members. The new Baby song is also pretty liked, they're starting to get noticed now.

So I was wondering why ifans don't really bother with this group? Lbh Cha Eunwoo alone has visuals that would outshine probably 95% of idols especially considering he is 100% natural.

The dance line is strong, vocals are excellent and rap is better than many debuted groups. Have you seen their boyband covers? It put the Produce 101 cover mission to shame.

Not too many members either so helpful with knowing them. Why do most ifans dont even bother?

I think it has to do with their concept.

Sorry for generalize but when it comes to boygroups, international fans seem to like more powerful concepts, and Astro concepts are pretty cute boyfriend concepts...

They have a great potential, they have de vocals, rap and the dance to do a more powerful concept, I think it would help them getting noticed outside of Korea

Just to share my op:-

I like Cha Eun Woo visual. Their MVs are pretty too. But their songs are not my type.

I like NCT Mark visual. I dislikes their outfits & messy MVs. I like some of their songs.

I-Fans (esp America, Europe) tend to cater to 'hip hop dance oriented group'. Ex BAP, Block B, BTS, NCT.

I think if they want to be popular overseas, they have to put target on one market. For ex. based on my observation EXO (mostly China), SuJu (big in SEA esp Indonesia), GOT7 (Thai, China, Hong Kong), iKON (Japan)

& In the end, luck plays a big factor too.

Music and concepts.

BtoB is in a similar boat. BtoB vocally is one the best, they have top visuals, great dancers, actors and etc. Although they have almost everything as a group, they're not popular with international fans.

Wow was really popular with international fans tho.

International fans like darker concepts for boy groups. Astro is really bright and cute so I guess it isn't to their taste

A lot of ifans don't like cute groups.

But Seventeen started off with such concept. Adore U and Pretty u was aegyo ish but they still manage to build a pretty impressive international fandom.

not all cute bg suffer, it's just that astro's concept is cute, and not in the vein of seventeen where they have a strong, noticeable rap + dance line, which appeals to ifans. if svt only released songs like 'pretty u' they would be in the same boat.

it's the same reason why bg like romeo, topsecret, nct dream, and to an extent b1a4, experience less popularity among western ifans

I'm fairly sure it's the concept. I've always thought B1A4 for example had good music and likeable talented members. I've always liked their stuff and they're fun on variety but they've never really clicked with ifans. "What's Happening?" is such a good song.

Their type of concept has always been less popular internationally than the "hard-hitting" type.

because most ifans have bad taste and only likes "edgy" tryhard hephap concepts fyeahplz.png  astro is clearly the superior rookie boy group but ifans (especially americans) have this weird need to see young boys immersed in toxic hypermasculinity for god knows what reason

I think svt managed it pretty well to keep a good balance between being cute bot not overly cute and not to tryhard but having somewhat a fresh powerful concept, it's overall just more accessible to a broader audience. While ye as mentioned astro for now is to close to the cute side that people who aren't into that don't rly like much.
