I am so disappointed in Katy Perry's new album

I am a huge fan of Katy Perry. She has imo some of the best discography in the business. But that being said her new album is such a miss.

It's to electronic and lacks any soul.

I only like two tracks on the album; Chained to the Rhythm and Witness

She took way to long to make a comeback.

This album just lacks soul and anything that sounds like Katy Perry. I miss her pinup, American, Katy Perry sound. None of her songs sound like her. They just feel so generic and unoriginal.

What do you guys think of her new album?

Not any remarkable song besides Chained to the rhythm. I mean, kinda liked the album, but not to the extent to listen to it more than once.

I get she can't be stucked with One Of the Boys style, buy I wish just one song was more like it.

I'm not a fan of it either. I couldn't get through a single song.

I read somewhere that when she's in control of her of her own material, it's usually a mess. I understand at some point in your career you want to spread your wings, but she needs to know her own strengths and weaknesses.

If I were her, I'd work with Bonnie Mckee again for the next album.

Teenage Dream will forever be one of the best pure pop albums out there and she will never top that.

Agreed this album was such a let down. I don't know if it's just max Martin running out of ideas but he hasn't been producing hits like he used to. I think his last big era was with Taylor swift (1989) and his only recent moderate his was side to side by Ariana. His next songs for Katy are just mediocre....he just sounds so dated.

Witness is a pretty huge change of pace for Perry, especially given the themes that underpin this album. I think she termed her album, 'purposeful pop'. Despite her public facades, I think her album offers something more genuine and meaningful particularly on the lyrical front. Her previous three albums (One Of The Boys, Teenage Dream and Prism) seemed set to excel her into pop stardom because half of her discography had the potential to be front-running title tracks. In more recent interviews, Perry seemed to hint that she has, 'been there, done that', and seems eager to explore a realm that ventures further away from Perry and more towards the Hudson.

This album falls into an electronic-pop niche that doesn't follow the same wavelength as anything she has ever done before. It is concerning because she is a pop-anthem artist and she didn't conform to the identity she is widely known for, so the backlash and the public mockery seemed inevitable to an extent. Personally, I think the album suffers a bit of repetition. We're listening to 15 tracks that don't offer the kind of variety her previous albums offered. This might be Perry having a great deal of autonomy with her writing this time round. I only found a great deal of replay value in Witness, Chained To The Rhythm and Pendulum. I think Chained To The Rhythm has the most appealing sound arrangement. The rest of the album quite easily fits into the b-side of her album.

I think that she's shaving off the 'mainstream pop songstress'. This album demonstrates that she is taking herself substantially more seriously as an artist than she has previously. For it's genre, Witness undoubtedly deserves credit. She has already been critically slammed but music listeners seem more generous. I hope she does well.
