Chinese audition program 'Birth of a Star' is under fire for blatantly plagiarizing South Korean competition series 'Produce 101'.

'Birth of a Star' was broadcasted on Chinese video site IQIYI from November of 2016 to January of 2017. A total of 65 contestants participated in the competition to become the final 8 of the debut group. The concept is greatly similar to 'Produce 101', where 101 trainees compete to become the final 11 debut members. In addition to the general concept, 'Birth of a Star' blatantly plagiarized the small segments within the show.

Some are the great similarities of the two programs are:

The only major difference between the two programs is that 'Birth of a Star' has both male and female contestants.

iQiyi had previously purchased exclusive rights for some Korean dramas, however, in regards to 'Produce 101,' Mnet commented, "We have never sold the licensing rights to China. We're currently looking to find out which production company created the show."

Lmao the visuals in the Chinese one are so bad

P101 shouldn't worry because it's 100x better.

Dunno how many time I have to say this. If you look at the staff listing for both shows, you will realize that they are do e by the same people. You are essentially accusing people of copying themselves.

Also, this show started airing in December 2016 and finished airing in March. I'm pretty sure time machines haven't been invented yet.

Then let's wait for what they find out. A lot of the names on the credits are the same and the show did air before season 2 started, those are facts.

Let's wait for the results of Mnet's investigation then.

Lol that's like one for one copy and paste. Though the Chinese one looks a lot worse in terms of quality of production. I read an article the other day about the exact same issue on how the Chinese would blatantly copy the content and format of popular Korean variety shows. But because the Chinese are so rich, some Korean executives are afraid pressing charges would mean less profit from the Chinese... Just terrible. warstarplz.png
