Best man from hell interrupts wedding to propose to girlfriend

I now pronounce you the WORST man ever.

A couple’s wedding was completely ruined when the groom’s best man, who was officiating, interrupted the ceremony to propose to his girlfriend.

The seething bride, who isn’t identified by name, detailed the purported matrimonial upstaging in a letter to Mallory Ortberg, the author of the “Dear Prudence†online advice column, asking whether they should sever all ties with the offending party.

“The setting was beautiful, everyone seemed happy, our families were overjoyed…. the entire atmosphere felt moving. So moving in fact that John stopped mid-ceremony to propose to his longtime girlfriend, ‘Jane,’ and reveal her pregnancy.â€

The bride further explained that Jane’s cries of joy were so loud, she couldn’t even hear her husband’s vows or the rest of the ceremony.

“Even the videographer cut to her frequently during the ceremony, and you can’t hear anything over the chatter,†the bride explained.

For a moment, the best man seemed to redeem himself when he apologized in his toast to the couple, saying he was caught up in the moment. But then started in again with more talk about his future with Jane.

As the icing on the cake, John asked the band to play a song so he and his future bride could share a dance alone on the dance floor, the bride recalled.

“I’ve never been an attention hog, and I wouldn’t even have minded if he’d proposed after the ceremony, but weeks later I am still seething,†the bride admitted. “I am so shocked and angry that I keep asking myself if this is real life.â€

As for the groom, he hasn’t spoken to his supposed best friend since the wedding, according to the bride.

“My husband has joked that he’ll resume his friendship when John and Jane give him a $40,000 check for ‘their half of the wedding,'†she wrote.

The bride’s account drew an outpouring of support on social media — and plenty of venom directed at the best man and his girlfriend.

“Be sure to wear all white to J&J’s wedding then announce a pregnancy. Oh and pass out baby shower cards full of pictures of you two,†Miss Pyro tweeted. 

Another suggested she go one step further for revenge and wear “a wedding dress…with a bedazzled sash saying ‘mom to be.'â€

I've heard stories about couples having their wedding ceremony interrupted by wedding crashers (an outside party) but this is on a completely different level.

What an ass tbh. If you want to propose to your girlfriend, do it later when the festivities are over. Don't ruin the special moments for the actual wedding couple. I would've kicked him out right then and there.

why wait until that day and that moment to propose? Nope, he wasn't your friend dude. They are narcissists to the max. They would have been kicked the fuck out of my wedding, holy hell. And they would have had to square up when my wedding is over idc idc idc

I would have slapped them. And the guy doesn't owe them just half, just imagine all the effort and work that they had gone through to make that wedding happen. That's more than the total price that they paid for. +taking away the joy that should have been there.

Argh...assholes. The so-called best friend needs to be taught a lesson. I would have totally given them a piece of my mind after the wedding. My devils side thinks you should do what others had advise you; an eye for an eye, but my mature/angel side wants to be a bigger person and just move on.

This goes beyond ruining the wedding as he took advantage of the setting and even charging for half the price wouldn't even make up for it. The bride says she's no attention seeker but on her wedding day there's nothing selfish about wanting that day to be all about herself and husband. I would really cut ties with that guy.
