discrimination against white males in favour of diversity in the work place. does it exist?

story of why im asking this question in spoiler.

so i have a friend, he is a white male. im a black female.

we are both out of uni and was in the job hunting market, and i noticed in the last year he had been making low key comments suggesting i would find jobs easier, since companies want to positively discriminant to increase the number of women and ethnic minorities in the work place.

i brushed off his comments, i worked hard for my grades and im fabolous.(he graduated with lower grade than me)

, i figured he was frustrated with his job hunting since he was trying to apply to join the police, and i figured the police force probably do want to increase the amount of ethnic minority police officers inorder to connect better with communities etc. so maybe he wasent completely  wrong.

but one day, he was having a long rant in a group chat about how white males were being discriminated against in the hiring process.

so i wrote in a joking manner "it sure is hard being a white male these days".

he snapped

giphy.gif

and thats when i realized, he thinks all jobs discriminate against white males. he even said 10 mins ago "im not voting for agroup of conceited diversity hires"in regards to labour and UK General election.

i know you are all 12 year olds but  i was wondering.

if u had 3 candidates, 1 white female, 1 white male, and 1 black guy.

all exactly the same resume, age etc.

and you could only offer 2 people a job. and your current employees where already 90% white male.

which 2 would you hire?

does positive discrimination exist, where people intentionally hire ethnic minorites and women over men, sinmply cause they are women and not white,

and if so is it wrong?

white men typically get the upper hand in regards to receiving positions of power, that's why programs like affirmative action exist : because in the nature of this white male dominated society, women/racial minorities are not given an equal chance.

also i would not be friends with him after that shit.

I don't think UK "discriminate" against White men. He probably flopped his interviews or his application wasn't up to standard.

LMAO at positive discrimination tho. He should stop blaming everything around him and should focus on his skills cuz he maybe applying for jobs that is waaaay outta his league

I want to start off by saying that your friend is a child he can't explain in term adults understand, why work places would favor non whites rather than whites. Now, personally I have heard stories floating around about how people (in particular fields) want to hire minorities (who may be less qualified) rather than someone who happens to be white. I don't think its a huge thing, but considering how on campus's students can tell their white teachers, staff, and students, that they need what is essentially a day without white people around, is fair to say it is gaining some traction.

When I hear any complain how they didn't get the job because of someone's skin color, I am reminded of the wage gap myth. 9/10 its never going to be between people who have equally qualified and have the same credentials. So weither you (the black female) or him (the white male) get the job, the acceptance into the college, or more pay; normally there is at least one factor in which you are not equal that became the verdict. So in the case of you friend, yeah some places have a diversity quota when it comes to jobs and schools. So in theory, its possible for someone who happens to be white and male to not get a spot to make room for a nonwhite male/female.

So to answer your question, yes there is some truth in that. However, I do think that at times its a gross exaggeration or while truthful not as serious as people make it out to be. I won't say if its right or wrong since I don't have a solid stance on this as of yet.

Honestly, your friend just seems like he can't handle not being on top and the fact that he thinks because he didn't get the job is because they have to hire minorities is sus. Maybe he comes off like an even bigger smug asshole in interviews then he does normally by how you're describing him.

u give prefrence to women and ethnic miinories when it comes to hiring someone.

its the oposite of discrimination

uh....no it's... it's still discrimination, believe me.

i know what it is, but i've never heard that phrase. anything to damage control fighting fire with fire eh?

To be honest, positive discrimination in my country exists just for the sake of looking like you are 'tolerant' and 'accepting'.

are you from Indo Liliana ?

if yes then I agree

Wow, privilege must really suck lol

Jokes aside, what a butt nugget. Yes, they try to diversify workplaces in many cases, but it's not like most workplaces put white people on the bottom of their list. Why tf is he snapping at you when he was being a jerk hinting that you'd get a job because of your ethinicity?

BOY. OP had betta grades than yo crusty ass, if OP got a job before you, it's because OP is skilled and deserving. They look at race, but they aren't going to hire a drug lord just because he isn't white smh.

if you wanna start shit with me about my first comment, for the record I am white, and yes even I am aware that society can be very racist sometimes. Sit down

actually no, "positive discrimination" is real. look at the college that voted to throw white teachers out just because they're white.

Not sure if it exists, but I'm in favor of it. Most white professors at universities teach that you cannot discriminate against whites and there's no such thing as racism against them so if even white themselves are saying it's not wrong to favor people from diverse background over them, then it' something acceptable.

White males in society have admitted that they have too many privileges and that they need to shut up. I love when this doctrine bites them in the ass.

no thats just straight up discrimination if people are bing fired for their skin colour.

positive discrimination is more about hiring process. or colloge/ university acceptance rate
