Storming the cult gates for OCN’s Rescue Me

rescueme_10.jpg&key=6050cffaf74aaa1285aa

We get a tinge of darkness, mystery, and creepiness in these new posters for OCN’s new thriller Rescue Me—although not nearly as creepy as the last batch of teasers, which are admittedly hard to outdo on the creep factor. But this drama has a very compelling angle in its cult storyline, as it tells of a young woman who finds herself trapped in a religious cult and begging for rescue, and the group of young men who happen to hear her cry for help and get involved.

Those young men will be led by Taecyeon (Bring It On, Ghost), pictured in the above poster leaning on his motorcycle, while his buddies will be played by (going clockwise from Taec) Woo Do-hwan (The Man Living in Our House), Ha Hwe-jung, and Lee David (Bring It On, Ghost). The copy on their poster reads, “Hot-blooded country boys, saving the cult world.â€

The second poster features the central characters on the cult side, headed by silver-haired Jo Sung-ha as the charismatic leader. (The hair strikes me as a little odd in that poster, or maybe it’s the Muppet eyebrows, but I’m appeased by the teaser clips we’ve seen so far, in which he looks more mysterious and less cheesy.) He’s flanked by his devoted lackeys, with Jo Jae-yoon(Defendant) skulking to his right and Park Ji-young (The Liar and His Lover) looking faithful and proud on his left. Their poster tells us, from our leader’s perspective, “I will make sure you are saved.â€

Below that we have the victims of the cult, with Seo Ye-ji (Hwarang) standing apart from her family, who get sucked into its clutches while she remains wary (though no less ensnared). Yoon Yoo-sun (Shopping King Louis) plays her feeble mother, Jang Hae-kyun (Ruler–Master of the Mask) plays the father who failed in business, and Jang Yoo-sang (The Magician) plays her twin brother. I can see why they’d cling to the cult as their hope for improving their lives even just a tiny bit, and why their daughter feels a sense of responsibility to care for them. Seo Ye-ji is the voice of their poster, which reads, “It is hell here… Rescue my family.â€

Below that, we have a couple more teasers (bearing the same taglines as above), one that features the young band of rescuers with Seo Ye-ji, and the other that pictures the full cast in front of the cult compound, with leader Jo Sung-ha’s hand resting unsettlingly on Seo Yi-ji’s thigh. Gack.

I expect Rescue Me to be a bit dark and disturbing, but because the core conflict is so primal and urgent (save these people from hell! And not in a religious sense), I’m hoping for pounding thrills and a driving sense of immediacy and danger. I like that the four young men are described as country bumpkins, because that gives them a feeling of being simple folks who may have crude methods, which gives them an underdog vibe. And Taecyeon as a hot-blooded bumpkin with a sense of honor? I didn’t buy him for a second as a brainiac model student in Bring It On, Ghost, but THIS I can go for.

Rescue Me will be a Saturday-Sunday show on OCN premiering on August 5.

Untold terror and strange happenings in Rescue Me teaser

Oooh, shivers just went up my spine from watching the latest teaser for Rescue Me, the upcoming psychological thriller on OCN. It captures both the youthful tone and the frightening mystery that the main characters become entangled in. Set in a small sleepy town in the countryside, a religious cult begins to take over, slowly pervading its insidious teachings to the minds of the townspeople. A neighborhood gang of four young hot-blooded boys led by Taecyeon (Bring It On, Ghost) try to rescue their first love, played by Seo Ye-ji(Hwarang), from its clutches.

The teaser opens with the cult leader, played by Jo Sung-ha (The K2), telling a young naive-looking Seo Ye-ji, “The embrace of the new god is open to anyone.†Her eyes are shut tight in what seems to be prayer, but they suddenly jerk wide open when hands grasp at her thighs. Then the scene changes to one where Jo Sung-ha is in front of a large audience of prostrate followers who sway fervently to his preachings. She passes out flyers on the street, presumably promoting the cult, and Taecyeon and one of his school buddies watch her on their motorcycles from afar.

A fight breaks out at the school, and Taecyeon and his crew, being the brash youths they are, are amongst the first to send flying kicks to their opponents. Seo Ye-ji is cornered against a wall, and a man’s voice tells her “You will soon earn salvation.†In between, the copy reads: “Hot-blooded youths save the world from a religious cult.†Then there’s a blur of clips that show Taecyeon running with his friends right behind him, Seo Ye-ji struggling to break free of her captor on the ground, and Taecyeon arguing that they should do something.

A woman’s sinister voice says, “We don’t give up†in the background, as Jo Sung-ha glares creepily. Then the teaser closes out with a close-up of Seo Ye-ji’s face, bloodied, shivering, and covered in sweat, as she whispers, “Rescue me.â€

So far, this drama has been doing a fantastic job of setting the stage for its chilling mystery. According to the production staff, Taecyeon became so immersed in the emotions of his character that he couldn’t stop crying even after the PD yelled cut in the bus chase scene pictured below. I’m looking forward to his simple but heartwarming country bumpkin character in this drama, and watching him and his gang bring down the creepy cult.

OCN’s next weekend thriller drama Rescue Me begins airing on August 5.

Actors Son Byeong-ho, Kim Kwang-gyoo, Yoon Yoo-sun, Jeong Hae-gyoon, Jang Hyeok-jin and Kang Kyung-hun are starring in the OCN drama "Save Me".

The drama begins on the 5th of August and it's a cyber thriller about a bunch of cheesy guys struggling to save their first love who has fallen for a false religious group.

Son Byeong-ho, Kim Kwang-gyoo, Yoon Yoo-sun, Jeong Hae-gyoon, Jang Hyeok-jin and Kang Kyung-hun are veteran actors who increase anticipation for the drama.

Yoon Yoo-seon who has over 40 years of acting experience, takes on the role of Kim Bo-eun, the mother of Seo Ye-ji (Im Sang-mi). She is kind and quiet but something happens to her that makes her break down in guilt. Jeong Hae-gyoon is Im Sang-mi's father Im Joo-ho who has had a failure in his business.

Son Byeong-ho is Han Yong-min Ok Tacyeon's (Han Sang-hwan) father. He is a loving father who hides his feelings behind a smile. Kang Kyung-hun (Lee Ji-hee) is Son Byeong-ho's aide who makes the drama more mysterious than it already is.

Kim Kwang-gyoo stars in "Save Me" as policeman Woo Choon-gil who lacks sense of duty but is more socially realistic and tries to negotiate with people. Jang Hyeok-jin takes on the role of Lee Kang-soo who was accused for corruption 10 years ago.

The four unlikely heroes of OCN’s Rescue Me

rescueme-teaser513.jpg

I feel a little like a broken record, but honestly, I start each teaser for OCN’s upcoming cult thriller Rescue Me with some apprehension, and end them all feeling like I need a long, hot shower. They’re just so creepy and disturbing, and I do wonder whether the show will be able to maintain that sinister undertone without having it overwhelm the audience. ‘Cause these trailers are really treading that line very well, and it would be awesome to have the actual show follow suit.

The teaser begins with Seo Ye-ji’s (Hwarang) family first moving into the cult’s compound. A cheery voice greets them, saying that he really likes the people here, whom he describes as innocent and hard-working. How deceptively innocuous; his pleasantries sound more ominous than they should. The family of “new believers†settle in, and one of the first things they do is go to a group prayer with the cult leader, played by Jo Sung-ha (The K2). Eugh, do they really have to show that disgusting thigh-grab so often?

Needless to say, Seo Ye-ji finds the cult members strange, and yells offscreen that they disgust her, just as she catches Jo Jae-yoon (Defendant) creepily staring at her from just outside a car window. Taecyeon (Bring It On, Ghost) hangs out with his buddies on their motorbikes, and wonders whether they’ve had anyone ask them to rescue them, sure that Seo Ye-ji did so. In fact, he’s not the only one she’s approached, since she’s seen in a taxi begging the driver to save her. Poor thing.

Aw yeah, I’m pretty glad to see more of the four boys that will fight to free Seo Ye-ji’s character from the cult’s grips, as well as aid her in rescuing her family. I can also tell Woo Do-hwan (The Man Living in Our House) is going to steal the spotlight as a gruff troublemaker type, with the motorcycle and lone-wolf-esque attitude to match. Lee David (Bring It On, Ghost) plays a bit of a dork who has an online streaming channel where he does stupid male high school things, like filling his mouth with Mentos and drinking some Coke. Lol, and eww at his spit-take all over his mother.

Newcomer Ha Hwe-jung looks like he’s in bliss as he stuffs his face with barbeque (I can relate), even while he gets smacked for gorging on so much food. Taecyeon’s character, on the other hand, is the only son of a widely-loved governor, and it looks like no one at school messes with him because of his father. Unfortunately, Jang Yoo-sang (The Magician), who plays Seo Ye-ji’s older twin brother, doesn’t get such preferential treatment, and is quite roughly bullied with no one intervening on his behalf. It’s sad to see just why everyone in Seo Ye-ji’s family found such refuge in this cult. It comes quite close to the end of the line for the twin brother as we see him stand on the ledge of the high school building, and only then does Taecyeon make a move to help, having rebuffed Seo Ye-ji’s earlier pleas for her brother’s sake.

Jo Sung-ha leads a fevered service as he yells that this world is overrun by evil, while Seo Ye-ji calls them the devils and Satan. Oh dear, this “service†is so disturbing, with people contorting and screaming; if I hadn’t known any better, I would’ve thought this was the beginning of some zombie film. We see flashes of the boys running, and Seo Ye-ji and her family bawling, though for probably very different reasons.

Run, boys, run! Get her out of there! Those will probably be my dominant thoughts while watching the show. Rescue Me will premiere on August 5, in OCN’s Saturday-Sunday slot.

Taecyeon saves Woo Do-hwan in "Save Me"

photo870404.jpg

Actor Taecyeon, Woo Do-hwan, Lee David, Ha Hoi-jung are ready to star in the new OCN thriller "Save Me".

The first episode is coming up on the 5th and "Save Me" is a cyber thriller drama in which a group of men struggle to save their first love from a false religious group. The cast are Taecyeon, Woo Do-hwan, Lee David and Ha Hoi-jung and they have to save Seo Ye-ji (Im Sang-mi).

Every one of the four characters have a definition of their own.

- A rebellious example student Taecyeon

Taecyeon takes on the role of Han Sang-hwan. He is tall and handsome with a fun personality but because of his image of being the 'governor's son', he tends to be a little rebellious. He is bad tempered to those around him but he is humane and friendly to those friends who see him just as Han Sang-hwan. He realizes how weak and cowardly he is when he meets his first love Seo Ye-ji and acts out as a tough guy.

- Cold blooded and brave, Woo Do-hwan

Woo Do-hwan is a cold blooded character named Seok Dong-cheol. Unlike Taecyeon, his family condition led him to mature up faster than others his age but he is bright and cheerful when he's with his friends. He can't stand injustice.

- The ace in personal broadcast, Lee David

Lee David plays Woo Jeong-hoon who acts before he speaks. He dreams of becoming a famous BJ and he doesn't have a job. He has a lot to say but he's soft at heart. He is the funniest one out of the four friends.

- The eater, Ha Hoi-jung

Ha Hoi-jung plays Choi Man-hee. He is a former champion of the 'Strong Young Man' competition and he loves to eat. He's scared of many things but he will sacrifice himself for his friends.
