are you more likely to stan a popular group

are you more likely to stan a popular group because of their popularity? there are many advantages to this; especially being able to be involved in a better community.

but what do you think? is it right to stan a group for their popularity or are you more interested in a group's talent regardless of how well known they are?

If they are completely unknown or if they only have one or two songs, usually I wouldn't stan/heavily follow them. When a group isn't known, it's harder to be a fan of them in my opinion. They don't go on many variety shows, if at all. And if they do, there aren't enough fans that will be willing to sub/watch subbed content. While if a group is at least relatively known, you can find stuff subbed, they go on shows every once in a while, and there's a fanbase waiting to invite you. I don't think it's right to stan a group just because they're extremely popular though. You should like a group for the members, music, etc... not just because because they're popular. But I think the popularity of a group will somewhat affect me following them and their activities.

EDIT: So basically I'm saying if they have 1-2 songs then I'll probably not follow them but once their discography becomes more broad then there's maybe a chance if I like the members/music etc.

I stan groups based on personal taste in music and personality. I cannot for the life of me just stan someone bc of their talent. What if i don't like their music? My taste in group varies out but most of them are either popular or well known so yeah ig

love the discussion but you guys failed to answer the question. :( it's not do you stan a popular group, it's are you more likely to stan a popular group

i end up stanning more groups that aren't from the big 3 by coincidence. i just prefer the way smaller companies promote them (especially loona) but some groups just happen to get popular like bts.

I usually Stan groups that are pretty popular, but not "hyper-popular" (meaning groups like Exo, BTS or twice, with giga-enormously big fandoms). And the groups that I Stan are usually a little bit older (the youngest group that I really stan is from 2012)

i can see the appeal of wanting to stan a group that is popular because the fandom is very active but no matter how much i try, personally, i only stan who i actually like, regardless of popularity. the advantage is an active community, the disadvantage is that you might as well be fake stanning. you need to genuinely love a group in order to waste your time keeping updated on what they do and maybe even spending money and time on supporting them.

When I first got into kpop I was because those were the only groups I knew of and could find out about easily, but now that I've been following kpop for a while I tend to follow a lot of lesser known/rookie groups because I can find people who are exactly my style.

...

Stan talent, stan A.C.E~
