KBS is jumping on that idol audition program bandwagon soon with ‘The Final 99 Match‘, which will have 250 male idols and 250 female idols with 9 of each left in the end.

Sounds like an absolute bloodbath.

Given the issues with screen time that already exist with 101 trainees, I’m sure 500 will be much easier to deal with. Also, the drama with both male and female trainees on the same show has amazing potential.

I think it was speculated by some fans that the show won't really have 500 contestants but 99 (hence the title, 99 Match) but auditions might probably start from 500 people. Some fans are also speculating this might also be a popularity show like PD101 and the group + members formed by fans. 

My own random speculation: 500 people to be be possibly screened/audition (they might end up posting all 500 auditions online like MNet posts the ranking evals for all 101 boys - not all will make it to broadcast) but only the 99 chosen ones make it to compete for the missions and people will keep getting eliminated until we have two groups made out of 9 members each - which most likely will be a boygroup and a girlgroup though KBS says there's a slight possibility we might see a co-ed group in the end (probably depending on how the show's storyline goes, who will be the popular trainees, if there are ships/otps lol)

So 99 Match = 99 people competing for a slot of two groups made out of 9 + 9 people each. Possibly these two groups might even end up being rivals lol. No mention if the final group will be a project or permanent group, though with KBS putting emphasis on 'unsigned' trainees' or 'former idols/singers' or even 'nobodies', I'm guessing they're aiming for a permanent one.

I enjoy survival popularity show but I also pity these kids that they're used as money machine by these people from tv

I doubt the relevant idols with individual careers/activities will join as they're basically already busy. This show will most likely be joined by nugus, underrated ones, those that dont get promoted properly and belong to small companies. I dont see idols from most groups from Big3 participate in this except for a select few underrated individuals with lack opportunities.
