Other Do pretty Japanese idols outside of 48/46 groups exist?

I know there are exceptions like Suzuki Airi and Hashimoto Kanna and Ami but most Japanese female idol groups aren't known for their sex appeal and prettiness but rather cuteness and normal looks.

 

Idk 48/46g have a more mainstream look? Their haircuts look a lot less cheap too. (Maybe other idols have cheap haircuts to make them look more approachable)
 





48/46 girls generally have bigger eyes and more sex appeal.

Most of the idol groups are too niche, to pay attention to their visuals. If you look closely and do intense digging job, you can find a very decent visuals.

In a case to be noticed for visuals an idol need to have some popularity of their own, instead of just relying on the name of the group. I think the reason why people pay attention to the visuals of 48/46 is because they are the most popular currently. If I'm not mistaken Morning Musume also concidered pretty visual when they were much more popular. There also cheerleader effect, that makes the group entirely appear better and when the specific member is promoted, pushed and receive much more chance to be shown, the prettier member will appear. I've seen in a less popular groups, members with visuals that can easily compete with top 48/46.

 

Aslo the styling and the concept is also pretty important, you aren't going to pay attention to visuals of independent members if they receive the same styling, individual styling can turn almost everyone to appear as a top visual. Also you aren't going to look for visuals, with a group that goes for alternative concept or has some other stronger points.

Beauty is pretty subjective, but there are accepted beauty standards that appeal to Japanese sensibilities. I can't remember her name, but one of the members from AKB48 was voted as "The face that most women want". I guess you could say she's an example of "classic" Japanese beauty (I'd put Abe Natsumi from Momusu in that category as well). Even so, there are still going to be different types out there that appeal to different people. It comes down to whatever your personal tastes are.
