None of our 2017 rookies really got anywhere
No wonder so many of these rookie groups were willing to go on the Unit.
For clarity, Pledis turned Pristin into a train wreck. Weki Meki isn't doing that great either. Dreacatcher is the only group out of this 2017 bunch that has been promoting consistently with some success.
We can even give credit to some of these groups like Elris, Greyish, HUB and SIS for at least trying to promote. That's more than you can say for Good Day and Pristin. Sad to see so many talented ladies wasting the best time of their careers because their companies are letting them down or they aren't being acknowledged by the public.
My theory was that kpop fandoms were not ready for new groups in 2017. People were still holding on. But with so many groups disbanding and that 2014 and 2015 class heading into 4 and 3 years respectively, people became open to new talent. Of course it doesn't hurt that alot of the 2018 and 2019 talent was and is coming from bigger named companies.
The rookies of 2018 like (G)I-dle, Loona, Fromis9, Izone, and of 2019 like Itzy are getting so much more love than those girls in 2017. The big outlier for 2017 is Pristin of course. Had Pledis not screwed them over they would be on the same level or higher than the popular rooks of 2018 and 2019.
At any rate, I hope at least one of those 2017 groups breaks out this year.
