On his whirlwind Taiwan stop, Hollywood star Tom Cruise found time to sit down for afternoon tea with pop diva Jolin Tsai, who surprised him with a homemade cake themed on “The Mummy.â€

Cruise jetted in Wednesday for a one-night, two-day visit to promote the film.

Local reporters were unable to snap a single photo of Cruise enjoying the sights, but it turns out he wasn't spending all his free time in his hotel.

According to photos Tsai posted to her Facebook page, she and Cruise shared a leisurely afternoon at Sin Hong Choon Trade's (新芳春行) traditional Taiwanese tea house in Dadaocheng on Wednesday.

Back in 2000, Tsai presented Cruise with a bouquet of flowers when he arrived on his first visit to Taiwan.

A Fine Afternoon for Tea

Seventeen years later, Tsai has gone from ingenue to icon, but she was still ready to welcome Cruise to Taiwan — this time with a cake.

The singer, a devoted cake decorator, presented Cruise with a fondant creation that took her seven days to make, according to the film's distributor, United International Pictures.

One half was a chocolate cake in the shape of an Egyptian sarcophagus and the other an exquisitely detailed monster in ancient Chinese garb.

According to United International Pictures, Cruise was so dazzled by the effort he asked three times whether she had truly baked the cake herself.

Tsai dared him to break into the sarcophagus, joking that to do so would be unleashing a curse.

Cruise was happy to do it, digging into the chocolate sarcophagus and declaring it his most dangerous stunt yet.

After a bite, he said he would need to step up his exercise regimen to stay at 6 percent body fat, United International Pictures said in a press release.

Cruise had brought a gift of his own — a bouquet of peonies for Tsai plus a pink diary he said he had written a secret in.

The recipient said she would write her own secrets in the diary, and that the diary would become a secret between the two.

The film distributor said Cruise and Jolin had enjoyed cups of oolong tea, “knocking them back like they were tequila shots.â€

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Tom Cruise spent Wednesday and Thursday in Taipei to promote his new movie “The Mummy,†but apart from a news conference and an official premiere, little was seen of the actor around the Taiwanese capital.

According to media reports, it now turns out that Cruise slipped out of his hotel to have oolong tea with Taiwanese pop diva Jolin Tsai (蔡ä¾æž—), who offered him two of her self-made cakes.

On Friday, she posted pictures on her Facebook page of her with Cruise admiring the cakes, a chocolate one in the shape of a mummy’s sarcophagus and the other representing a zombie in a Chinese costume. Tsai said she spent seven days making the cakes.

The actor offered her a bouquet of peonies and a diary inscribed with her name, reports said.

Cruise and Tsai reportedly already met once, on the occasion of the Hollywood star’s first visit to Taiwan in 2000 to promote “Mission: Impossible II,†which was directed by Hong Kong’s John Woo.

The meeting over tea took place Wednesday afternoon at the Sin Hong Choon (新芳春行), a restored building in the historic Dadaocheng (大稻埕) area of Taipei which served as a tea factory in the 1930s.

Cruise was accompanied on his fourth Taiwan visit by “The Mummy†director Alex Kurtzman and by actresses Sofia Boutella and Annabelle Wallis. They spent more than two hours signing autographs and taking selfies with fans at the premiere Thursday evening before leaving for Europe, reports said.

Off-topic here: I hate fondant cake.

Ugh, it tastes weird at best, yucky at worst, and all those carvings&shapings the fondant as if you're playing play-dooh makes me wary of contamination. And it can't be that safe to eat some cakes days after it's made? And not to mention, fondant is heavier than cream, thus heavy on the spongy cake. I'd rather have a fresh cake with light buttercream frosting on it. Much more likeable.

Considering Tom's affiliation with that religion called scientology-practically a cult imo, with scandals and controversies- plus there are rumors of his sexuality, I'd rather Jolin to stay away from him.

There are hollywood men she can be chummy with, Tom is like a weird has-been these days, not exactly the "it" guy anymore. Still popular, yes, a Hollywood big name tends to survive their decline years better than others but nonetheless I think Jolin is way much above his league.

She could do much much better than Tom Cruise, imo.
