wowww I didn't even think of this, but I shoulda known someone would bring it up with his age (he's so young! I'm sure the military is the least of someones concerns when someone finds out they have cancer that young...  )

The link between smoking and NPC hasn't been solidly confirmed. It ain't like lung cancer, where the risk clearly increases with smoking. With NPC different studies have shown different things.

 

On the other hand drinking alcohol heavily regularly is a risk factor, as is the typical Asian diet which is high in salt-cured fish and meat.
