Are there any college dropouts here? How did dropping out work out for you

I'm doing really poorly in school right now and the place I'm working at told me I'm potentially manager material.

Looked up their salaries listed for that job in my are (county and state) and it's about as much I'd get at a job with a bachelor's. And I know for a fact my place has some managers with no degrees.

Don't want to drop out, but if the opportunity knocks I think I'm most definitely gonna drop since it's looking like I'm not gonna graduate.

Plus my dad has no degree and he's now living in a million dollar beach house all because he volunteered a lot at different organizations. I don't know dude

Yes, I dropped out almost immediately, had a mental break. I think I lasted 3 months. For me it was extreme anxiety that led me to dropping out.

Honestly I floated between dead end jobs before finally landing a job with a huge technology giant. The acceptance rate into this company is really low so I don't know how I landed it, must have aced my interviews? Anyway I started out making about 30K a year and now 4 years later make about 50K. It's perfectly fine money for a single earner in my state, and I comfortably own a house, a car and am putting my fiance through school all on my income alone (though he will be getting a part time job soon.)

It's okay to drop out. I wish I didn't mostly because I am kinda stuck with this job, which is in a field NO ONE enjoys lol (tech support/customer service.) If I could turn back time and pursue my passions in college I would do so in a heartbeat.

Are you interested in management? Is it a field of work you would be interested in?

Would your degree enable you to pursue a job in a field you would love? That's most important. Life is too short to work a job you detest.

If you need to take a break you can as well. You can always go back.

Do what feels right.

There is no shame in either choice.

Oh and volunteering can help create a huge network and looks great on resumes so I do suggest taking some time to do some good for others (and yourself!) as well.

He wanted to work in politics as a campaign advisor, so he volunteered at a lot of political offices. They saw he was pretty smart when it came to politics and campaign advising, so he kept getting hired by different governors and mayors to run their campaigns. He's been doing it for years. I think he's mostly only able to afford the nice house because his new wife has a high paying gig as well

Just drop out. I mean most people go to school to get a job, but if the opportunity presents itself and you get to skip a step, why not just take it? Some of my friends who dropped out are doing just fine, and one actually founded his own company and is doing better than some of us who graduated from university. School is not for everyone any way. Ultimately, to be successful, it's just all about your network and who you know anyway.

Oh thank you. I feel fortunate. Its crazy how one opportunity can change your whole life, and I am thankful that I was given it. I'm excited and hopeful for the future.

No No No!! Sure, you may become a manager at this place, and get a great salary, but what happens if the company goes under?  or if you decide you hate the position or the field in general?  You'll only have the experience to fall back on, instead of the degree and the experience.  It seems like you're only thinking of the immediate future, not what might happen 10-20-30 years down the road.  life changes... kids, marriage, divorce, financial instability, economy, whatever.  I think sticking it out is never something you'd regret doing.

i dropped out and i've regretted it ever since.  i need those credentials!!  however now i'm stuck in a financial situation where it's not an option to re-enroll.

It's been a year sice i dropped out. Tbh i 70% regretted it :( I haven't found a job yet and i felt so useless. My high school friends graduated already and it triggered my anxiety even more :'( Haven't figured out what to do with my life yet.

P.S : I need to find a job t.t

Just to say a lot of people don't go to uni and own business and become successful. My neighbour was treated poorly by his parents. But now he's driving a Lamborghini and bought his mum house and bought his own. In a better area than mine.
