Does being a fan of something make you blind?

I'm a firm believer in the idea that nobody is perfect. People make mistakes, they slip up and have their flaws. But there are many things that I simply cannot justify, stand or accept from a person.

At around 12:30am on February 8, 2009, Brown and then-girlfriend, recording artist Rihanna had an argument which escalated into physical violence, leaving Rihanna with visible facial injuries which required hospitalization.

Chris Brown is a KNOWN WOMAN BEATER who left his girlfriend hospitalized. Forget for a moment his celebrity status and talent, forget that his girlfriend at the time was Rihanna, one of the most successful female artists today. This is a man who purposefully hurt and damaged someone he was romantically involved with AND someone who he was larger, stronger and most definitely powerful than.

Fast forward a few years later and its like it never happened. Brown still has over 12.5 million twitter followers, a record deal, fame, music videos, albums, concerts and, perhaps the thing I fail to understand the most, HE HAS FANS????/ Literally people who support him, fangirl over him, want to marry him, find him attractive, spend money on him. On this worthless piece of shit. And before you say that this is a matter of opinion, I refuse to have mercy for criminals. But apparently his fanbase feels differently.

a video of Brown was recently posted on vine, https://vine.co/v/bYTIK71tHx7

it shows him saying "when somebody tries to attack you" and then he proceeds to attack the air. Fans find this hilarious, despite his past.

There are twitters, tumblrs, etc dedicated to Brown, THEY ARE LITERALLY IDOLIZING A CRIMINAL THAT HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. How can they justify it on the terms that he's attractive and can sing?? That he's a changed man now?? Men like that don't change. He might say that he regrets what happened but why would he have a reason to? He obviously meant for it to happen, it wasn't an accident. Yes he got charged but he hardly had to do his time and he's still managed to come out of it with a strong career. He's still making money and is adored by thousands so no big deal right?

Either they're extremely daft or Chris Brown fans are blind to the facts.

So after my little rant there, I wanted to know, does being a fan make you blind? Make you able to justify or in some cases, ignore, the offensive things your "idols" do? Anyone else have any cases in which people have practically gotten away with things like this?

On another note, let's compare things like this to t-ara's situation. It was bad, sure, but some could say they are being treated worse than chris brown in their respective countries for not even committing a crime.

tl;dr: chris brown sucks and yet his fans still love him

Nope. I stopped being a Chris Brown fan after the incident.

I'm a rational fan. If my fave does some dumb shit, I'm going to call them out on it. I can't stand those delusional fans who follow/support everything their fave says.

I remember after the incident, Rihanna Navy hated Chris Brown, and then when they got back together, they decided they wanted to love Chris Brown again? Like get that BS out of here. These fanbases develop groupthink and behave like brainless sheep.

Some fans separate the art from the artist. What Chris Brown does in his personal life may be horrible but I'm still able to enjoy his songs.

It's like if my favorite book was written by someone that happened to be a racist. If I found out they were racist, I wouldn't stop liking the book.

Rihanna is a deadbeat for lowering herself and degrading ideals by going back out with the whack job.

I also didn't like how he freaked out when talk show hosts grilled him on his actions. Like seriously, you beat up your girlfriend. Of course people wanna talk about it. People deserve an explanation.

But if he comes out with good music, I'll listen.

Well, I would. It would depend on circumstance and severity, but if they cross the line, I drop them -- unles the crossing is a lesson.

If I like an artist for their music then I wouldn't care what they do in their personal life tbh. Their problems and all aren't mine.

LOL I've had CB fans argue with me that Rihanna is the bitch and that CB is the innocent one... smh..

Well from what I remember the whole story, they were arguing in the Car when SHE tried to snatch the keys out the ignition while they were driving. Regardless of who was right or wrong from that argument, she could have got them both killed or seriously injured from running into another car had he lost control due to her stupid actions. Yes beating women is wrong but screwing with a driver while driving down the road is a death wish.

And everyone did hate him for a good while and the music industry it self turned on him, until he came back turned him self in and formally apologized in public for what he did when he overreacted. And when she chose to go back to him and work things out people seem to forgive him a bit, and when they found out she was crazy, and the two were made for each other people simply stopped caring about his personal life.

He is an Ass-Hole and she is Bat-Shit-Crazy, people are not blind, they simply stopped caring, unlike Korean Fans which can't seem to separate Private Life from Entertainment Life

Beating women is wrong, but is it wrong to forgive him if he changes is ways....?

Korean fans never learned what "Forgive" is.

That is one thing that separates Western Fans from Korean Fans. We know the two lives are separate and try not to mix them if they have good music or a good actor or actress. Michel Jackson was in and out of court all the time for for allegedly molesting kids that stayed at his house. But since he was a damn good Artist and Performer, we just thought he had a screwed up personal life, but nobody stopped buying his music or going to his concert.
