Has anyone here taken Lexapro before?

Hello. So today, I went to the psychiatrist for the first time in my life about anxiety and depression. I was prescribed Lexapro, it's the first time I've ever been prescribed a medication like this.

For those who have taken it (or any antidepressant really), what should I expect? He told me that it's different for everyone, but I'd like to hear some others' experiences with it.

thank you!

I've tried it before but it didn't do anything for me (doesn't mean it won't help you.)

With antidepressants, you usually start feeling better about 1 month in, and it tends to be pretty subtle/gradual. If you've noticed no difference within a few months, go back to your psych and they might adjust your dosage or change your prescription. Don't be discouraged if the first medication you try doesn't help, not all meds work for all people. :)

I've been on it for 5 days now already and my anxiety has lessened and I feel like I can function better because I am a little more motivated (might be placebo). The side effects honestly suck, but they are getting better. I think it is working well so far.

what side effects are you experiencing (if you don't mind me asking)?

I've been on 10 mg of Mylan-Escitalopram (generic version of Lexapro) for over a month now.

The first week was amazing, I couldn't stop smiling - I felt like I was high on something. My mind and body just felt like it needed to be doing something at all times so my motivation and awareness was through the roof. The second week was terrible though, I couldn't get out of bed and when I was finally able to make myself, I was literally falling asleep every 30 minutes even while standing. The third week everything kind of stabilized, I'm still kind of tired but it's much better.

It's helped my anxiety a lot. I used to get physically sick (stomach pain + nausea) in any stressful situations, but now they feel more like a small worry in the back of my head.

My side effects were dry mouth, excessive yawning + tiredness, jaw clenching + pain, and 0 sex drive.

The first 2 days I was nauseous after eating and I got a little constipated (make sure you drink a lot of water) and also I could barely sleep but now I am sleeping well and don't feel nauseous at all. Also it made my mouth dry for whatever reason.

i am on zoloft and it didn't start helping me for like 2-3 months

but around that time it made such a drastic change and now i have like no anxiety at all

i had side effects while the doses were increasing such as lacking motivation to do anything (which was terrible)

but it went away within 3 days of the new dose

and im really glad i take meds for it now because they help a lot
