Lord of Cards 628 Posted May 16, 2017 Share Posted May 16, 2017 Personally, I think TWICE Coaster Lane 2 was release in such a hurry. 2 months after Christmas Edition for TWICE Coaster Lane 1. The album only contain 2 new tracks, Knock Knock & Melting. All other songs were the same as TWICE Coaster Lane 1 and Christmas Edition. Now, what if JYP use the same strategy as SM and YG. Having double title tracks, 1 being a tried and tested formula, the other being more experimental. Instead of having a comeback in February and then another comeback in May, if they combine them into 1 big comeback in March or April. That would have shape up to be huge. JYP song is a hit or miss, this time, it seems to miss (I love Signal more than Cheer Up to be honest) with the public friendly song that TWICE have been giving out since debut. I personally think TWICE comeback only 2 months after Christmas edition, and only 3 months after TWICE Coaster Lane 2 does decrease the hype a little bit. With only 1 title track, it has to be a safe pick. This time, it was just too different for public to like. Even the M/V vibe is different especially towards to end. Some of ONCE are preteen, wouldn't that surprise at the end be emotionally scarring? Had JYP chose to do the double title track strategy, the hate on Signal would probably be reduce tremendously. People will simply listen to Knock Knock more. Can't help it if antis keep on hating, but casual listeners (which makes up most of TWICE target audience) wouldn't be put off. Going All-In with Signal is too risky. Considering TWICE does have the budget to get 2 M/V. Signal is a music direction change, and most people are resistant to change. It doesn't surprise me that some fans might be disappointed this comeback. It's just too different overall. It's like South American music sang in Korean. I mean, Whistle and Boombayah is successful with Whistle being more successful in South Korea and Boombayah more successful internationally. Stay has the same vibe as Whistle but didn't hit daebak, while Playing With Fire has the same vibe as Boombayah and it live up to the hype. There is little risk involve, only money. TWICE is bankable enough to warrant double title track already. 1 will not be as popular as the other, but if the comeback is deem as successful, they will eventually earn enough to recoup the investment. The risk of splitting attention. Remember when Lion Heart was underperforming during its debut because public thought Party was an actual comeback. I know groups like Twice, RV, BP, SNSD and even AOA could afford double title comebacks but there is no purpose to do it except to showcase multiple concepts and probably also to be gift to fans.
